Beating the patriots was fantastic. good stuff.....took care of business at home and it was great. but its over. t-minus 6 days till we travel to jacksonville to play the biggest game of the season. They started off slow, losing to a bad seahawks team 41-0 at one point. But like us, they have picked it back up. What scares you about this game? their passing? MJD? their defense? what are their weaknesses and what can we try to take advantage of? --Maurice jones-drew is the 4th leading rusher in the NFL. 1077 yards 4.6 ypc --garrard is 18th in passing. --jax defense is giving up 100+ yards per game rushing and 7 tds --242 ypg 20 td 12 int for their passing defense which is ranked #23 in the league (we are 24) how confident are you with this game? what say you?
Jacksonville's Db's are banged up. The problem with Jacksonville and even the Titans is, Gerrard and You ng are extremely mobile Qb's, that forces the defense to adjust or they can run the ball for long yardage or scores.
this may be short and sweet but that doesn't make it any less true. We better not give up a td to Earnest Wilford though. That'd be down right embarrassing.
garrard has passing--10 td 6 int sacked 32 times rushing-- ran 60 times 241 yards for a 4.0 average.....2 tds 12 fumbles 8 lost
I think the key is to watch Marcedes Lewis. I could be wrong here but I think he's having a career year and has made some nice catches over the middle. He's a tall pass catcher that can bring down the ball in traffic. We've got to watch him. Offensively, I think you need to attack the rookie corner who's name slips my mind right now. Their secondary has had a lot of blown assignments this year and they've struggled to generate any kind of pass rush. I'm working off memory here but I think John Henderson is their top sack man, which is rather embarrassing IMO. I think we need to work them with a bunch of crossing routes. Run those drags, quick slants, etc and you'll take advantage of them IMO.
Dont put in Pat White, contain MJD, get Ricky involved, and give Cameron Wake more snaps. Well I should have said don't turn the ball over.
Jax Wins Houston x2 5-7 Tennesse 5-7 St Louis 1-11 KC 3-9 NYJ 6-6 Buff 4-8 They really haven't beaten any quality teams so far. I'm confident we can contain their offense while we run right through them.
We need to exercise the demons of that stadium...the site of most horrific loss ever by our beloved Phins, in my book.......
throw the kitchen sink at garrard contain the perimeter run the football pass when you have to keep white off the field pray
I think this game we bring back the running game more. Jax may prepare more for our passing game now, should try and gash them with the run early then start passing more. The crowd should be on our side!
Not sure about Wake in this game BK, Garrard is vulnerable to pressure "but" we need the end to contain him not neccessarily to pin their ears back and head upfield.
I was going for Wedding Crashers. 1050 ESPN > The Fan Give me Tierny and Kay/LaGreca over Francesa, that buffoon Carton and Boomer ANY DAY.
I think we match-up very well with them. It's an away game, but luckily it's the Jags and they can't seem to get their attendance up, plus it's in Florida. That being said, still a scary game, just like the rest of our games will be.
We tend to do well against teams whose strength is running the ball. But Garrard has been throwing it well lately. It will be close, just like all our games this year. Hopefully we come out on top.
Ginn will have a big catch on a deep ball and JT intercepts Garrard. Just have a feeling about those two things. Contain MJD and things will be much easier.
I don't have a feel for this game because I don't have a feel for the Jags. They're a hot and cold team and I don't know which one we're going to get.
Yes Im scared. This team is very simliar to us in the fact that it rarely looks pretty but they get it done when they need to. Del Rio (like Sparano) has that team prepared to win games by moving the chains. I mean sometimes I look at our offense and wonder how the hell we score. If Porter comes out with the fire he did last week he could have a field day with rookie LT Eugene Monroe who has struggled. Mike Sims-Walker is scary. He averages roughly 6.5 catches with 94 yards and 5 TD's @ home this year, he needs to be contained. They have virtually no pass rush wich is nice, but big John Henderson will make it very hard to run between the tackles. Rashean Mathis is a game changer and will jump those intermediate routes, hopefully we dont try him very often, he has been a very good CB in this league without them ever really having a good pass rush. Dont think Ricky is gonna go off so Henne will need to be patient and move the chains. I think our coaches know that Ricky has to be treated carefully, our last four games are against some of the physicalist hardest hitting teams in the league. We really shouldve signed LJ. Cobbs sure would be nice right about now also. Two teams who the fan base of every other team thinks arent that good, but one of us has to come out the winner.
Yeah, can we just admit that Pat White is a bust and move on? I can't stand watching him in there! Contain MJD definitely, I'd like to see our Run D hunker down like the beginning of the season. Soliai is coming on strong so I hope he keeps progressing. Wake is becoming quite a force but as everyone knows he needs to develop against the run too. The last few games JT has done next to nothing, I'd like to see him step up too. Obviously Porter is playing and will be playing injured the rest of the season. I think I hate the Jags as much as the JETS and will always hold a grudge from 1999. I HATED watching our team lose like that, especially being Marino's last game.
Not only that but then assistant head coach Dave Wannstadt marveled at backup QB Jay Fiedler who was throwing all over us in mop up time, and decided he should be the QB of our team for the next 3 years.. See the trickle effect? They dont blow us out, Jay doesnt get in, Wanny doesnt fall in love with him. Yea, the more I think about it I hate JAX too.
I would LOVE to get some payback for the 62-7 beating we suffered back in '99. I remember I was on my college ski team at the time and had another run to make. I told them I had to go watch the Dolphins game. They told me if I left I was off the team. I told them, "I guess I'm off the team then." I wasn't a great skier anyway. I went to the bar on the mountain and watched that game. I'll never forget it. One of the saddest football games I've ever watched.
Mathis has a serious groin issue, one of those that sort of linger, he has not played for two or three weeks.
Maybe there is a reason I don't know about, but how come we haven't run screens with Ricky lately? I mean we run it with Bess, Lousaka, and even Haynos?!?!? We ran the screen a couple of times with Ricky this year and it proved to be downright successful. I don't get it.
I think Hilliard breaks out big for us in this one. Every time he gets the ball I am in suspense waiting for him to run through and over the other team and score
one game @ a time the season is w/o playoff hope w/ the next defeat should have our eye on developing & evaluating talent as we play to win, this simply;u is not our year to go to the SuperBowl but, if Henne pans out @ QB next year we could give it a run
Without knowing/seeing much of Jax this season, I will suggest some of (what I think) are the keys to Miami winning this game: On Offense: Run traditional/base offense. If any Wildcat, use it sparingly and wisely. Use Hilliard more. We're gonna run Ricky into the ground otherwise. Run some spread offense (Ginn, Hartline, Camarillo and Bess in a 4 WR sets), and try and stretch the field. More shotgun and roll outs for Henne. I thought that was a noticeable change of strategy against NE and I liked it. He is very good on the run IMO. On Defense: Contain Garrard (i.e., don't just try to blitz and flush him out of the pocket). He's pretty mobile for a guy his size, so just try and collapse the pocket with him in it. Maintain assignments and make tackles. Blown assignments and missed tackles have killed us this season. More Wake (and move him around). The guy is a beast rushing the edge. Overall: Get on top early (so their fans don't get into the game), and try to get into a situation where you're basically grinding it out on the ground late in the game. Prediction: Maimi 24, Jax 17
Something that I find interesting about our season. Early on, our defense was matched up against the BEST QB's in the league. Matt Ryan, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Phillip Rivers, Tom Brady, and we didn't fare too well (at least in the win column). We are now entering a part of our season of mediocre QB's and BEASTLY running backs. Maurice Jones-Drew, and Chris Johnson. Then we go back to two top ten passing attack teams in Pitt and Houston. It will be interesting to see how we do.
