Question answer interview, I find it interesting that teams are double teaming him.... http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolp...dolphins-wr-davone-bess-in-his-own-words.html
the name of the game is dictate to the offense who they can throw to ... if Bess is catching the most balls ... then do what you can to limit his touches -- make Henne throw to the other WRs ... the good news is that he is ...
good article. bess is clutch and sparano is 5-0 in december. this team knows when to get hot under this regime. i'd rather finish strong and start weak 6 days of the week and twice on sundays
I've never ever seen it mentioned that he's getting double teamed. I like the fact he quickly aknowledges Hartline and Camarillo in helping get him open. Good kid with incredible hands.
Or how successful a stud WR could be with defenses having to account for Bess, Camarillo and Hartline
Thats the reason I love this kid and have since he started playing for Hawaii. Humble and easygoing, but on the field you can't stop him.
well, for everyone saying bess would look better with a true #1, i have to ask a few questions: 1. Where is this true #1 going to come from? We're not the only team that needs one and there just aren't that many to go around. 2. I'm not necessarily certain that would benefit Bess all that much. Bess gets a lot of passes thrown his way because we design plays to go to him. I'm still not entirely sure why Bess gets the quick screen passes and guys like Hartline and Ginn don't. But if we get a big time WR, those screen passes better be going to him and not Bess. Bess had a wonderful game and got over 100 yards for the first time in his career. However, we had to throw to him 13 times to do it. (maybe more, i just know he caught 11, dropped 1, and the other was henne overthrowing him for the int) If we were to get a true #1, Bess will never see 13 passes come his way again.
It surprised me that we didnt double cover Welker more than we did .Players like him and Bess catch a lot more balls than the deep receivers do. In our case we dont have a true No1 WR so it was a no brainer to double cover the more productive WR.
Our Reciever Corps is literally one player away from becoming among the best in the league. Mock Away. Brandon Marshall Vincent Jackson Golden Tate Anquian Boldin Dez Bryant Add any of these to our 2 (Bess), 3 (Cammarillo), 4 (Hartline) and you've got a multi-faceted and consistent threat.
I see it a little different, CS. Not that we have the same players/team as the Pats, but I think Bess could be their Welker if we can find ourselves a "Moss" (obviously Moss is 1 in a million) but I mean a true #1. Teams can't double up on both, and when you have a #1 and then a guy like Bess, there will be games where one is doubled up all game, and the other is open all game. So yes, I believe Bess would have the opportunity to see 13 passes with a #1 WR. Not to mention the obvious impact a #1 WR makes on the entire team. Not just the offense by opening up the pass and run, but the defense gets to sit out more, and hopefully make the other team have to play from behind. Its HUGE when you can have a balanced offense.
But NE, and you could argue this is the difference between the team that won 3 super bowls and the team that's barely winning the afc east now, doesn't have a running game. New England's offense doesn't work unless their passing. Against us, Maroney had 13 carries for 40 yards. When you're offense is not built around running in anyway, you HAVE to pass to someone like Welker 10 times a game. The patriots offense right now is built on the idea that they can pass all day and it will win them games. Yet they're lack of a running game is plaguing their season. We threw 52 times on sunday, but I have a hard time believing that's going to happen again any time soon. Our running game is usually a lot better than it was on sunday. Although without Brown to change the pace up it's becoming quite mundane. I would argue that, and this may very well be what Parcells believes, we don't need a true #1. Our team was incredibly efficient on sunday and it was because Bess and Co. caught almost every pass they were supposed to. They just have to keep doing it.
I don't know the stats off the top of my head, but did NE have a great running game when they were winning Super Bowls? I know they were passing like crazy. I think its their lack of defense this year thats plaguing them. Hey I will be the first to tell you, I am just a fan, I have never coached on any level or anything. I leave that up to the FO. Maybe we don't NEED a true #1 WR, but I personally feel like a #1 would definitely benefit our team. To bring up your point on NE's lack of a running game, as I assume you would agree, we have a very good maybe great running game, think of how much better that running game would be with a more threatening passing game due to a #1 WR.
Exactly.Makes something out of nothing, one thing about him if he drops a pass or fumbles, he doesnt get down on himself, he goes back out there and redeems himself. Love this kid, wanted him to be a Dolphin since I watched him play at Hawaii.
Someone else brought it up imagine if we pick a true number one receiver up and Have Bess,Hartline and Camarillo as our receivers next year, look out.
Corey Dillon was a beast one of the years. He was the best player on their offense at one point. I definitely want a #1, i just have given up hope on getting one basically. Though i gave up hope on us ever getting a decent QB and bam, Chad Henne stepped on the field. So we'll see. would love it to happen.
Tell me about it. The pats have to bite the bullet finally and get a stud RB again. Sammy Morris, Fred Taylor, and Maroney, that's what they came into the season with. Pitiful. A lot of their short passes to Welker should count as running plays, cause that's pretty much what they are. But their defense is lackluster too, no doubt. I cannot believe how good that team is at drafting and yet they haven't replaced Vrabel's pass rushing ability or Samuals outside coverage.
i think of bess i think of McDuffie different players different circumstances very similar as a possession receiver nice target great hands there is a need for a player like bess
oh yeah they are... Ron Brace is gonna be a solid if not great DLineman for them. Chung is already showing signs of good things. They replaced Bruschi with Mayo whose doing well. Butler was a first round talent and they got a steal in him IMO. Vollmer's already started and played well for them in a couple games at LT. They know how to draft, but their defense got real old on them real fast, that's where it all went south. Bruschi, Vrabel, Colvin, Harrison, Seymour, Samuals, these guys crushed us for years. I wouldn't be shocked, however, if in 3 years we're saying that about Brace, Mayo, Butler, Chung and whoever the hell they draft to be their go to pass rusher this year tho. Hope I'm wrong of course, but if there's one thing i truly hate about them, it's how they draft.
I guess we will have to wait and find out. I have been saying it for a long time now, I have a lot of faith in this front office, and I haven't been able to say that I back up the coaches and organization 100% with the decisions they make. Will they make mistakes? Of course, but I like the way they're heading and I believe they are busting their @$$ to make the right decisions to better our team.
He reminds me of Moore and McDuffie. The way he runs and carries the ball and the speed. Tough like Moore and quick like McDuffie. Hope that made sense Kenny.
1. I imagine the #1 is going to have to come through the draft. I don't see the Chargers letting Jackson go, I don't see Denver letting Marshall go and I want nothign to do with Bolden (too old, imjury prone). 2. True ahh, I am pretty sure that Moss is a #1 one WR and Welker get plenty of ball thrown his way.
