I'm working on a 1000x2500 file with over 2200 layers, and photoshop cant keep up. What a bunch of crap!

is it too much to ask a program to duplicate 1100 layers at one time?

32 identical groups of 70 layers each.

wow. i have 3 gb of ram. i allow for PS to use up to 71% of that. it used all of that 71%, and then used 6 GB of my hard drive to work on this file. i would need like 8 GB of ram to work on this file without it slowing down my computer.

Merge all the ones you possibly can. That's what you're supposed to do anyway. No way you are working individually with all of those layers.

here is what im working on. its the nfl draft order. i wanted each group to contain each nfl team logo, to make it easier to edit. so that means 32 groups with 40 layers per group. i guess i can merge the other 8 layers in each group, but then they cant be edited.

its not finished. it will be smaller when its done. :tongue2:

because each number has all 32 teams logos (31 are invisible). i wanted it to be easy to edit.

What are the dimensions? The file size? Is it rgb or cmyk? Are you grouping them in folders? (Don't know if that'll help but might be worth a try, less clutter to load visually)

What size do you need it to be? Are you going to print it or is it just for use on your comp? The sample file you posted is almost 1 metre high (what's that about 3ft?). I suspect this might have something to do with the lagging/crashing (or whatever it's doing). Adding layers to a file that size will cause you nightmares.

    Is it 300dpi?

    100 dpi. 10 inches by 24 inches

im reducing the width to 750 pixels. its just to post on this site, not for print.

750 will be better. Also save it down to 72 dpi. It doesn't need to be that big unless you need to print it to size. Make sure you save it as a new file so you don't lose what you've done so far. It may not fix the problem but it should definitely help.

Which I think is probably the reason why he has all 32 logos with each number, so he can go back in and toggle them on and off.

Gish. Couldn't you merge everything down for each individual number/logo?Meaning all gradientsetc. are merged into one file. Then save each number inidividually as projects. So when it comes times to put it all together you simply just have to open each individual number, turn on the proper logo and then copy onto the background layer?

It seems that that would speed everything. I still don't see 2200 layers on that project, even with each team at each number. It looks nice though. Is the plan to add the picture of the college player selected after the team does so?

First 2010 NFL Draft, 2nd, just wait until the season is over

also the chances the colts or saints getting draft pick 1-20 is unlikely so you dont even need their logo for them

I would say do this Gish. Instead of using so many layers do like I do. Build pieces in seperate files (which makes it easier to keep up anyway), merge them, and then add them together into the final piece.
