This is completely my opinion, and have no facts to support this but I noticed in the day after press conference with Sparano that a question was asked why Jason Allen started over Vontae Davis, and he said it was between he and Vontae. I wonder if this could be related to Vontae taunting Tom Brady last week by putting the 2 fingers up after a play which everyone knows what him saying I've intercepted you twice. I like his confidence but I think they benched him as a lesson to him that there is a fine line between confidence and taunting, and he could have cost us a 15 yard penalty and giving New England a first down. Again this is only an opinion but I think this may have been a wake up call by Tony saying to go over board because it could cost the team the next time. Does anyone else have other suggestions or anything to say about this?
Could also be a "Don't get cocky" message too. Vontae has been playing good. But he's still not off the leash. He's put out there to grow and learn. Not run his mouth. Coaches probably let him know that by letting him sit out a quarter and show that they can do just fine without him in the lineup for a spell.
I have to think it has something to do with an off the field issue. If Tony punished players for talking too much Crowder and Porter would never see the field.
vontae is a rookie sparano is probalby showing him what not to do being cocky if you use those two as examples we don't really know what happened never will see my post above that is my opinion
First thing we all said in the chat room was that he had to have broken a minor team rule. It was just a series so most likely late for a team meeting or something trivial. Only a problem if he doesn't learn from it.
I could see it. But, does that really warrant not starting against pretty decent WRs in Torry Holt and Mike Sims-Walker? I'd bet he was late to a meeting or some such. Nothing to be concerned with as I thought Vontae played pretty well.
Probably the same reason why D. Thomas didn't start. Doesn't Sparano wanna give these guys a little break being that it's the first time they're playing more than a 12 game season
Its possible, its also possible that it was just a minor team rule that he broke. Either way, its not that big of a deal I suppose. How about this, maybe it was throwing Allen a bone for playing well against Welker. As if to get his confidence up more, help him improve. Just another reach.... probably a big one here though since Davis was really only out for one series at the start. I think its more a form of discipline for breaking a team rule, or to teach a lesson of some sort.
No matter what the reason I'm glad Sparano has the marbles to keep discipline in the team. The tighter to the line these guys walk the less likely losing their head is going to lose us a game.
either way the message was sent even if it was a meeting throw cold water on him ya cant put out vontae's fire out either way he got right back on the field as it should be
you tell me no one knows why it is the million dollar question you said vd might have been out played in practice by allen doubt it
Yep!! Sparano asked his players to play with more fire this past week. Did anyone notice Ricky shhhussh the crowd on his first TD>? Thats totally not Ricky's style but he said he the coach told them to add some fire into the game so thats what he came up with...... So I highly doubt he was sitting Davis to calm him down.
Just last week he told his players he wanted them to have more fun on the field and play with more fire. No way in hell he sat him because he was to cocky or to "knock him off his high horse". He broke a team rule, late for a meeting. has to be something along those lines. Who knows maybe hes been late for a couple meetings or had a sloppy day at practice. With this regime we will never know lol =)
i agree, that it was simply a message to him ... don't let your jock get too big ... don't stick your finger in Brady's face ... you are only a rookie - and haven't earned that right yet ... not that this regime likes that brashness anyway ...
'Other teams are struggling no more than the Dolphins but somehow their problems seem magnified. The Patriots, for example, had four players late to meetings last week. Those four were sent home before practice and one was scratched from Sunday's game. Well, rookie Vontae Davis was late to something or other last week. But there was no drama surrounding Davis. He was simply benched for the game's first series on Sunday.'' http://www.miamiherald.com/616/story/1380683.html?storylink=omni_popular#none
knocking him off his high horse in some form is what i said whether that means he felt too self important to make a meeting maybe he has a swagger around the facility coach don't like tony thinks he is too big for his britches who knows i dont you pretend you know only the coach knows and he aint saying not going to argue over speculation time to move on
No offense but that article gives no more proof than my opinion other than it was put on the Herald. That writer is suggesting that it could have been being late for a meeting but has no source to back it up. They are guessing that's what happened but I think were never really going to find out. With that being said I liked the confidence and laughed when I saw Vontae stick the 2 fingers out to Brady but my only concern was could a referee had seen that and thrown a flag for unsportsman like conduct and giving the Patriots life again. After watching it over it looks like it was well after the play, and there wasn't as much risk in getting a penalty as I first thought. My thinking was Sparano wanted to teach him a lesson that there is thin line between being confident and taunting but again that was only my opinion, and after I looked back at it I don't think there was much risk at all.
Sparano and Davis know what it was for and thats the way it should be. Sparano's players respect him and thats more than you can say about some coaches who passed through Miami recently. As far as Davis showing two fingers to Brady I am sure he has heard and seen a lot worse and Davis said it in passing, he didn't get all up in his grill or anything.
Ok let me try and put the idea that VD was benched to knock him down a peg to rest. The last few weeks the Coach has been emphasizing to his players that they need to have fun out there. Let me also point out that most of the team is adept at celebrating success. In fact I'm hard pressed to think of anyone besides maybe Ricky that doesn't celebrate or talk some trash. Porter has his own show on the NFL network in which each and every week it talks trash on national television and has yet to be fined to demoted because of it. Coach Sprano loves for his guys to go out and have fun and in fact he emphasizes it to his team. Below is an excerpt from Tony Sprano's 12/2/09 press conference in which he makes it a point to make it clear he wants his players to have fun. Here is a direct link to that press conference! NOTE: The above comment was at 4 min in to the conference.
Sparano and Davis know what it was for and thats the way it should be That's what Tony said in his presser the other day. And like you said, that's the way it should be.
It was after the play occured and although we would have gotten a 15 yard penalty, the ball would not have gone back to the Ratriots.. When post play penatlies occur after turnovers, the ball is never given back to the team that lost the ball.
please tell me where i said that because i didn't when i used the term high horse you automatically assume i meant on the field you choose to ignore the part where i said in some form this could mean that it had to do with a meeting maybe vd feels like he is above having to attend sparano knocks him down by sitting him down i was ready to move on and lets hope vontae learned his lesson and it doesn't happen again you seem to be very condescending when dictating to me how players should be treated i never called sparano a kindergarten teacher but if you choose to use that term he disciplined the kid so he felt he had to address the issue
i was warned just last week for posting what some thought was not factual regarding matt roth i made a comment that was inappropriate and apologized then was told i need to post fact confusing
