jaw dropper. disturbing way to end the season. dexter was big on guilt this season. "should've done it already" heard that all season long. i wonder if that all carries over.
Spoiler Not sure how Dexter is going to work now. I guess none of us are. I mean Rita is what kept him grounded. His family and his involvment in it is the only thing that separates him from just a mindless cereal killer. Well that and his code lol. I know he still has the kids and his sister to help keep him grounded but I thought she was a vital part of the show. Oh ya and it didnt hurt that she was HAWT!
Son of a *****. I just watched this and the season finale of Californication, and I feel like I've been gut-punched. Twice. Does wonders for my mental state.
Same here my jaw literally hit the floor. I'm still in shock never once did a television series suck me in like Dexter has. Holy Sheet that is why its the best show on TV. I was hoping to see Dexter just break down and show some true emotion. Season 5 I'm not sure how its going to open up but I can tell you it wont finish as good as season 4.
I think why it still shocks me is the fact I can picture Arthur Mitchell Spoiler killing Rita in the way he does Anyone think they have Quinn take the Doakes route for Season 5 and maybe perhaps Debra catching on what Dexter does?
I absolutly loved the endind... You never see a series do what Dexter did. This ending was the most shocking ending to a season since Terri died in season 1 of 24.. Spoiler .I just keep picturing trinity killing rita and how he did it and I'm still in shocked Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device
Yeah they are setting this Quinn thing up for awhile. However its gotta take a different turn than Doakes. Quinn following him to the club when he killed the innocent guy is going thru my head. Hmmm Yeah I loved the ending too......WoW Just started to watch 24 season one. Half way thru.
This season was amazing, honestly I don't know what to think about the ending, I'm still in a complete state of shock. I feel almost sick here, maybe the best show on TV right now.
Well Quinn wont be set up like Doaxes was. I think he is going to do his own investigating on Dexter. Man they really know how to f with the fans. I'm wanting to know how it picks up from this. Quinn thinks he just chases tail he probably wont put the pieces together yet. Season 5 is going to have some High expectations.
Read an interview with the Lead Writer (lost the link but you can find it on tvguide.com, I think) and she had some interesting comments. First, Quinn may be here to stay, at least for a while, because season 5 may just go without a major villain, and Dexter needs to have an adversary of some sort. Also, there is the question of how it will be received by his colleagues that Trinity killed the wife of one of their own; so seemingly random. Yet all it would take to cast serious aspersions on Dexter (he will probably even be a suspect in Rita's murder, she said!) would be to put him together with Trinity's family. And how easy would that be? Well, Rita's murder would make the papers and Dexter's picture would too as a result, especially as a suspect - and how could Trinity's family then miss the connection between Dex and "Kyle Butler?" By all rights and in real life, Dexter's world should now fall apart and he should at least be exposed as a very suspect and untrustworthy man and co-worker, given that he works with cops. In fact, any of a hundred people or more could put Dexter/Kyle together with Trinity when they see his picture; the guys on the roof who helped him save Trinity alone, but all the people on those home builds too. Not to mention Trinity's family, especially the son. I have a feeling that season 5 may be the last, unless the writers and producers come up with some compelling and believable scenarios to overcome those circumstances. Even with that, though, they simply won't be able to top this season and its incredible finale, and that in itself may be the show's undoing in the end.
And here's that interview that I referenced earlier; it's with Exec Producer Sara Colleton, not the Lead Writer. The tvguide.com site absolutely SUCKS! I searched and searched and couldn't find this again, then searched myyahoo! and it was so easy. http://www.seattlepi.com/tvguide/413268_tvgif14.html?source=rss
I was wondering what the police will think of Rita's murder as well. The wildcard here is I would assume there are cameras in the police station which means they have video of Trinity waltzing in the station and interacting with Dexter. I can't wait to see how Dexter reacts to this knowing it is essentially all his fault that she's dead. He held off on a million chances to kill Trinity before his cover was blown. Not to mention the way his lifestyle puts those close to him at risk to begin with. If he is a true sociopath he may not even feel guilty for very long or at all. We could tell he thought a lot of Rita but his reaction to her death seemed to be more shock than anything. The husband is always the prime suspect, even Debra may start to suspect him after just learning about his history. It certainly seems the voice inside of him that came through as Harry was vindicated. One of the themes of the entire season was that a serial killer, even one like Dexter, can't have a family. It's hard to argue with that at this point. Last, I wonder who will take care of Harrison? Will it be Dexter alone? Maybe not if he's a serious murder suspect. Debra maybe will take custody?
a couple things. i was shocked, but honestly, i hated rita most of this season. nagging, whining, making out with neighbors. i was wondering mid-season, if the writers WANTED us to want Dexter to off her. i think i posted that somewhere in this thread. i think this actually frees up Dexter, because he is getting far away from what he was supposed to be. all this family and distractions and feelings...(this isnt the show i want to be watching!) i think the two older kids will go off with Rita's mom, or the grandparents. I think there will be a mix of help for the baby, ala Theo when Sipowicz's wife died in Blue. Talk about a season finale shocker btw...that was a monster. i think this free's Dexter up to finally get back to being the character he was in season 1. And to date, I think Season 1 absolutely blew every other season(including this one) out of the water. Season 1 of Dexter may be my favorite bit of television, period. It was just more fun and entertaining...and in the end, the twists, man that was just amazing tv.
Excellent analogy and point. NYPD Blue was amazing television drama; Dexter has a lot of the same elements in common. You know, I said all the way back to last season that Rita was a pain in the ***, and I wouldn't have been surprised to see her offed somehow. Still, it was such a shock the way it happened. Her character was difficult, but she grounded Dexter, even in the first season; without her it's hard to see how the character of Dexter and the show itself doesn't go off the rails. Goodbye Rita; I'll miss seeing her naked occasionally.
I have to disagree about season one being better than four, though. One was amazing from many perspectives, not the least of which was the freshness of the concept. But this season...wow. Then again maybe four benefited from springboarding off of a relatively weak season three, too.
Has anyone read the books? Is the TV show sticking to their storylines? Sorry if this has been addressed, I am jumping into this thread on page 3.
As I understand it, the series went way off the reservation from the first season. I have the audiobooks but since I know that, they're way down in my queue.
A big difference from the series and the books is Spoiler Doakes seeks out a member from his special forces days to hunt Dexter and it back fires and he tortures Doakes and does a whole lot of **** to him.
No idea. I just remember searching out the web site that listed the difference between the books and series and that stood out when I was reading.
I have to respect the fact that they took a huge chance with this show ending season 4 the way they did. This could really blow up and turn the show into crap in season 5 if it isn't resolved in a way that feels real or keeps the interest in the show. They could have just used a formula of Dexter the family man against a big villian and probably milked 2 or 3 more seasons out of it before it got stale. Instead they shocked everyone and honestly I don't see where they are going for sure. I think Deborah really has to be onto Dexter at this point. She has great instincts and is actually a great detective, she has to start putting two and two together after this. I think she finds out who Dexter is and what he does and thats where it goes in season 5. She will probably find out Dexter was onto Trinity, maybe she looks into what happened to Dexter's mistress from Season 2, etc. I don't see why Dexter would be a serious suspect in his wife's murder but it will raise a lot of questions about him that he will have a hard time answering. I can see the show working towards a season where he is caught and gets the chair or dies, it would fit the way this show is to have it end like that.
Depends on how long they want to keep making Dexter. I can see season 5 being the last season I could also see it going on a bit longer thats just how it works the way they ended season 4. I think 2 more season and the show is done IMO. I think they will work Quinn into season 5 he'll go a bit crazy and try to kill Dexter and I bet Debra kills Quinn. Although I think its silly if they keep making Debra some clueless detective and not notice her brother. Would be interesting if she pieced it together but protects Dexter instead of going ape ****. Damn I wish I knew how they were going with season 5.
I think Deborah finds out and I think she accepts it just like Harry did. She has to start putting things together about Dexters past, Harry's and his 'secret' getaways, Dexter's unexplainable behavior, I think she puts it together in Season 5. Will be interesting to see what happens with Rita's kids and with Dexter's kid, I think Deborah has to get closer to Dexter after Rita is gone to help out. I don't think Deborah ever bought that Dexter didn't know about his past, I think she started to piece it together that he knew about it already.
Didn't happen...I don't think. Notice the tub was full to the brim? Arthur would have displaced quite a bit of bloody water, especially when he got out.
Of course he was in the tub with her. That is his ritual. The reason the water was probably filled to the top was so Julie Benz didn't have to be nude on screen like the other women we saw.
anyone else thing that Quinn Lord would be a great villain in season 5, or 6 if in 5 they decide not to go with one
