It ruins my entire week when the Dolphins lose, and I'm sure it's the same for most of you. A loss like yesterday's has the potential do dampen my spirits for a month. I guess it's just one of the downsides of being so emotionally invested in your favorite football team. It's always tough when the loss happens during a usually otherwise happy holiday season.

My question to the rest of you is how do you cope with your Dolphin Depression?

I usually ignore all highlights, articles, recaps, interviews etc. on Monday and try to get it out of my head by Tuesday. I don't think that's going to work this time.

I just get to the point where I tell myself it's not worth it. There is nothing I can do to change the outcome. It was an exciting game. This team just doesn't quit and that's one of the things that makes watching them so much fun. They just refuse to throw in the white towel. No matter what happens from here on out, it was an exciting season and Miami lost a bunch of really close games. They also won a lot of close games. There is a learning curve obviously but I feel really optimistic about the future of this team. We had a lot of bad breaks/calls this season and sometimes that ends up being the difference in a game/season. Even fans of other teams will say that they respect Miami a lot and enjoy watching them play. We have an exciting team.

Usually am very angry and pissed for 24 hours. I replay every play of the game in my head and do the what if's. Usually sex with my wife will break me out of the funk and it did so at 7am this morning. :)

Well, after however many years passed, I've learned to temper it a bit. Still dissapointed, but we as fans have been through a lot worse.

Our team is looking up, and we should be excited about our progress over the last two years. We aren't ready just yet.

Positive forward thinking helps me along as I assure myself that our young players are only developing more and more while we acquire the missing pieces to a dominant team.

Look at the fight this team has fielded after starting 0-3, the disheartening losses to IND, NO, and BUF, and after losing our starting QB, RB, CB, NT, RG, and C!!

I swear, and throw stuff around on gameday, by I am comforted by a realistic sense of optimism after the alchohol has worn off. :)

    Hang in there.

Life is too short man. I can understand being heated on a Sunday night after an afternoon loss, but to let it affect the rest of your week or remainder of your month? Its a game, you have to treat it as such. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Also, I don't know your age, but you would think the younger generation of Dolphin fans would be used to the disappointment, that's really all they've known considering the failures of this franchise over the last decade or so.

I take comfort in the fact that this team fought hard and never quit and is obviously on the road to better things in the future .

We dont have the talent to go very far in the playoffs anyway even if by some miracle we get there.

The sweep of the Jets and the victory of the Pats made the whole season worthwhile IMO.

Well, I just keep in mind we are a young team with some potentailly dominant players, Long, Henne, Wake, Vontae, so that helps alot.

What bothers me is the long layoff in between football seasons, sheesh Jan 6 until September 7th or so, is a loooong time.

And tbh, I'm really digging how hard this team plays, they never quit even with Yard Sale talent the play like they are Tiffany gems.

First thing is to realize it really doesn't matter in the overall grand scheme of things. I mean, it certainly means something to our emotional sides, but it means nothing to the rest of your life. If you have a job, you still do, if you are unemployed, you still are. The game has nothing to do with that. My wife didn't leave me because of it, my kids still love me, etc. etc. :pointlol:

After that, I just immerse myself in the good things in my life - my family and friends. Went over to a friend's house w/ the fam after dinner and took my mind off it. Plus, this week, it's Christmas week and one of my favorite times of the year. I'm lucky my young kids make it all fun, too, so it's hard to really be upset for long.

So, in short: Step 1 - just put it in perspective. Step 2 - immerse yourself in the good things about your life. And before you know it, next Sunday is here! And - remember - we still have a shot at the playoffs.

And also remember this. It's OK to feel bad. It should hurt if you are as emotionally invested as I am at this point. It's OK, because when we do eventually win a Superbowl (heck, even get there for the time being), it will be 10 times the opposite happy reaction. I mean, when the Dolphins get there, I plan to run outside and jump around in the snow up here, screaming my arse off in joy until I get frostbite!!!

That's a good point. I told myself after we swept the Jets, that no matter what happened from here on out I could hang my hat on that.

And I did take small comfort in the fact that the Jets lost yesterday...

Thanks for the ideas and thoughts. It is helping to ease My Dolphins D(epression).

For this weeks loss, its seems like I am going to stay away from forum, espn, cbssports etc... All this until next Sunday when I will be behind our team in a game that still really matters. The more you think about what if's the plays etc the more upset you get and the longer the week goes by. Try to keep busy with non NFL things.

Personally I do like a lot of you. I replay over and over in my head key points in the game that lost the game. For instance my mind has kept replaying the Henne INT when we were on the Tenn 14 yard line and had we have gotten just a FG we would have won.

I also refuse to watch all sports channels or read a lot about it on the web. I even try to avoid the Mains here lol.

As of now what keeps me sane and insane at the same time is running over all the ways Miami can still make the playoffs. I keep telling myself, "If Miami beats Houston and Pittsburgh beats Baltimore then all we have to do is beat Pittsburgh and we're in or we need Denver to lose once and then hope strength of victory goes our way." I am driving myself crazy and I wish it was Sunday already so I would know if our season is done or if we save it by beating Houston and Pittsburgh beats Baltimore or Denver loses to Philly.

I am officially losing my mind.

Another tough thing about this loss as compared to other losses is that even though I shouldn't have, I resigned myself to the fact that we were going to lose when we were down 24-6. I was already starting the healing process. The emotional toll the roller coaster of coming back and having a very good shot at winning took makes this loss really hard to cope with.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not suicidal or anything over this, and I'm keeping things in perspective. I'm looking forward to this Christmas week, and enjoying a day off because of the snow. But I can't help think about how much sweeter this week would have been if we could have pulled out the victory. Oh well. Can't wait for the Houston game.

Yeah I understand what you're saying. In the end what is important is that your family and friends are all in good health and so are you but man does Miami losing sting lol.

All I want for Christmas Day is for SD to absolutely cream Tennessee just for revenge. I'm still pissed that a team that still has basically no chance of getting in has almost ruined Miami's chances. I hated Tennessee before but now that hate has reached a new level.

Then if Christmas weekend finishes with a Miami win, a Baltimore loss, a Jags loss, and a Denver loss it will be the best Christmas ever.

Now I feel I have to stay around in the forum this week to try and keep everyone sane and focused on the week ahead.

    1) Can Philly beat Denver? Living in NYC metro, I get to see a ton of Giants and Philly games, I am trying to be unbiased here but Philly is a great team this year, they can take the broncos. I know it will be huge if they win so I am seriously trying to be unbiased. It is a very winnable game for Philly.

    2) Can the Steelers beat the Ravens? Well the Steelers all of a sudden have a reason to play other than pride an being the SB champs. So are they going to go out there and give it all they have? HELL YES!!! Can they win?? Yes they can. One of the most important games of next week. Lets all go behind the Steelers next week!!!

I will give up my 9 reps points (I know not too many) to see us all stand behind our team in the coming weeks. I assure you guys that by Wednesday and Thursday of this week we will all have put this loss behind us and be anxiously awaiting (Other than Dolphins Gifts under the tree) a huge game on Sunday that will finally end our doubts.

So, try to forget about the loss. Wonder if, "Hmmm is there a Hartline Jersey or Camarillo Jersey under that tree???" "oohhhhhh Holiday food, YUMMYYY!!!!" Before you know it, we will all be back here discussing the very useful and anticipated "keys to game" as well as the "Official Dolphins Texans thread" so.....

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!! YOU WANTED DECEMBER FOOTBALL, YOU GOT DECEMBER FOOTBALL!!!!

Well the worst time for me is immediately after the game because I got to deal with all my friends rubbing it in asking what happened. Also I try to avoid football news for the rest of the day,I accidentally turned on the radio last night to hear sports talk and some Dolphins fan called in saying time to get rid of Henne and the host said the Dolphins are done, that is when I knew not to listen anymore haha. Anyway usually by the next day I am back supporting the Fins and here I am ready and excited for next week, this is not over,Go Fins!

I play video games or just sleep it off. I try to avoid the forums because I know I don't want to read what people are typing at the moment. There are a lot of knee-jerk reactions after losses...

I just realize that while Henne has some work to do (touch passes, accuracy beyond 25 yards, not to force throws, etc.), he has shown the qualities needed in a franchise quarterback. I think next year we'll be looking a lot better than we are now. With a healthy Ronnie Brown, a healthy Will Allen, and possibly a healthy Jason Ferguson, next season looks even better.

Bring in some good linebackers, another safety (unless Chris Clemons steps up next year), and sign Antonio Bryant or Chris Chambers for a year or two to give Turner developing time... I think we'll be among the top in the NFL next year.

The Saints loss was probably the toughest loss of the year for me. But I was also coming down with Swine Flu (I think it was swine) and was feverish during the game. By the time it was over I was delirious with fever.

I look at depression a bit differently than most, possibly because I have been down that road with insurmountable financial problems and wasted several months singing, "poor me." There is nothing to be depressed about this season...whether the Dolphins make the playoffs or not. They had both the Saints and Indy beat but lost the final shootout, they swept our rival Jets (which alone makes the season), and they defeated New England and crushed their momentum. The Fins have also won several games they were not supposed to.

We have only been blown out once this year (I don't count the Bills game since it was still winnable with only a few minutes left) despite losing our best two offensive weapons. Name any team in the NFL in recent years that lost not only their top QB but their franchise running back and still played as diligently down the stretch as Miami...it does not happen. Receivers had to adjust to Henne's laser-guided passes, Williams had to pick up huge slack, and our defense has featured two rookies corners which is essentially considered suicide. Add up all of these factors then consider that we had the toughest schedule in the NFL....how can you be depressed?

To look at it a different way, lets say your kid was the best all-around soccer player on his/her team. They dominate all year and make it to the state finals, only to have your team's goalie and top scorer injured in the first quarter of play. They're losing 5-1, your kid scores three goals in the final minutes, and the backup goalie looks like a reincarnation of Bruce Lee with 20+ saves. The clock is winding down, your child launches a bullet with only seconds remaining, and the opposing goalie dives for the ball and touches it just enough for the shot to go wide. Are you then mad at your child? Are you depressed? Heck no, you go to work the next day and tell everyone how awesome your child did despite all the massive setbacks. Our Fins are no different...be proud of them. Miami kicked *** this year, and if they slip into the playoffs could be very dangerous in their "nothing to lose" mindset.

I'll admit, the "almost" winless season took the wind out of my "Dolphins hangover loss syndrome." Almost to the point that my husband and mutual tailgaters routinely assess if I've lost my Dolphins "love." No, not that. The bigger picture, and I am always hopeful, whether it's the Dolphins or my personal or professional life. In some ways, it's personal growth. Just because I'm not yelling or depressed about situations with the Dolphins or at work does not mean that I don't care. I just gauge my reactions. Oh, and GO FINS! AND that was a BS call on Camarillo!!!! :knucks:
