The same way a corner copes with being toasted.
I focus exclusively on the next game.
If it's the last game I start focusing on free agency immediately. Then the draft. Then training camp. Then the preseason. Then the opener...

First I go give my daughter a hug and kiss and remember that its just a game. Then I retire to my dungeon, smoke a fat bowl, and kick the living crap out of whoever the next team is on my Madden season.

Usually after that I feel pretty good. :)

    Getting older helps.

Life can be hard. The more you experience the more it helps to put football into perspective. That doesn't mean that the losses don't hurt. You just get over it quicker.

When the Dolphins are struggling focusing more on college football and the draft can also help.

Focusing less on just the Dolphins and more on the NFL as a whole can help too. When you realize that the Vikings just lost to the Panthers and the Dolphins beat the Panthers then you begin to believe that maybe we don't totally suck. When you realize that the Pats lost to Colts and the Saints too you start to feel a little better about those losses. When you think about the Bills, Raiders, Chiefs, Browns, Redskins, Lions, Bucs, and Rams you become thankful that the Dolphins aren't in the same situation that those teams are in.

Lastly fantasy football and pools can sometimes help. After the Dolphins lost I checked my computer and discovered that my fantasy football team made the championship. I actually smiled within minutes after a loss. Then I checked my football pool and discovered that the Raiders beat the Broncos and became depressed again because we blew an opportunity to take the lead in the Wild Card race. :pity:

    It does

Just not giving much of a crap anymore helps too :tongue2:

After about 21 years of being a fan with so much turnover from the glory days when I first said THIS is MY team, you start to become numb and sort of just not care so much.

The players are different in more than just names (ie. they are bigger and stronger now...sort of), the times are different (ie. no more real dynasties with FA around), the coaches are different and hell even the game has changed (rules and such)....Dan's records are falling...me personally I have gotten to a point where the days when your entire week is ruined and your offseason is spent tirelessly looking for any nugget of info is now just...meh...they get paid win or lose...I get paid what now for having this mild heart attack every Sunday?

First of all, I grab me a few dollars and hit the bulk candy stand! Then i go to the booby bar and try to insert said candy. Then I go home tell myself dont go to the boards, (good luck) i hit up THEPHINS then have another 1000 friends to ***** about it with. I awake in the morning still high on sugar wondering were the beer went. Call my Jets friend tell him im gonna kill you for being a jets fan and i Know you were stealing my beer.

Realize we still must win two games before the seasons over. Never give up, never die, always fight. HAPPY HOLIDAYS

For me depends ont he type of loss. In the past (not to long ago) I would get very worked up over the team ****ing up but not the only losses that hurt are the ones where we blow a lead or we do everything to lose the game but make a comeback only to fall short. Right now those losses hurt the most. Besides it wasn't good for my health to get worked up week after week.

That sometimes does help. The year we went 1-15 I won the championship in the most competitive and more importantly biggest money league, which helped take some of the sting out.

But it can also compound the pain of a Dolphins loss. Last Sunday I got snuffed out of the playoffs with a 202 - 104 loss, so no such luck there...:pity:

While Fantasy Football seems nice. I cant pick a receiver or running back or what ever from another team and root for em just me!

For me it works as long as I establish a hierarchy. The Dolphins come first. Then fantasy football. I pay no attention to what's going on with fantasy football until the Dolphins game is over. Then I'll either watch any other games that impact Miami's playoff chances. If there aren't any, then I'll maybe cheer for some fantasy players.

But in the long run, you might be saving yourself a lot of grief by just skipping it...

See, for most of us, including me, it's much more than just a game. We invest so much into this team. So yes, it hurts a lot when we lose, more if it's a bigger game with more on the line (like the past 2 games). I usually do the same thing, I'll avoid the highlight shows and interviews etc. Usually I'm over it by Wednesday or Thursday, depending on the game and when it's played. You just got to stay positive and keep believing that the next game/season will be better. It never takes the sting away though. It comes with the territory of being a die hard fan like we all are.

Man you have my routine down to the letter..especially being in NY with all the Jet stuff. Today was just a hard day to get out of bed and be motivated. I just gave my kids and extra hug and kiss and sucked it up for the day. Yesterdays game took alot out of me...more than it should...but its like you said...I work hard and do all I can for my family...my passion other than for my family and friends..are the Miami Dolphins...just is that way. I invest so much time in it...it just a kick to the gut when things don't go our way. Yet would not trade it for the world:up:

That's what I usually do but this time around I added a twist to the whole losing thing.
After the game yesterday my nerves were soooo shot that I literally puked in my mouth. After that I felt a migrane like pain I never experienced before run right up my left arm to my head. All that evening I couldn't stop puking and had to sit in the easy chair and sleep with a ice pack on my head.
After refusing to go to Hospital I slept for a total of 4 hours before I had to go to work this morning.
For now on I might stick to the above underlined part.

The wife said the same thing to me last night.
She also said she was going to ban football from the house. All I could manage to say was:Then where are "you" going to watch it?

It is kinda' messed up that the older I get the worse the feeling is after a loss.
I thought it should be the opposite way around?
