US Army, 82-89, as an electronics tech, 33S. Did my Basic at Ft Dix, AIT at Ft Devens. Then it's funny hearing all your cold weather stories, I got sent to the opposite, spent the next 5 years at Field Station Kunia, Hawaii. I did get to visit Korea and Berlin while I was in though. Some really good times were had, good friends made.

I enlisted in the Navy during college. Got to MEPS, took all the tests, then at the end of the second day the doctor says I have scoliosis and disqualified me :(

I did my basic at Ft Dix too. :)

My AIT was at Ft Huachuca, Arizona.

Is Dix still the sandy armpit of the world? I remember trying to dig foxholes in all that sand, practically impossible! I guess had I been there in the winter instead of August it would have been a different story. What company were you in? I was D-3-3, back then one of the few that had females right next door. They for some reason felt the need to 'protect' them from us back in the old days! How times have changed.

I'm an AIT old timer, they closed the school, and eventually all of Ft Devens and relocated to AZ. Never made it out that way myself, but a lot of friends did. My next door neighbors are from the Devens area and were there when it closed, they said it was crazy. His grandfather had been stationed there when it was Camp Devens, so it was a fixture of the area, big impact when it went down.

It's beautiful country... I've been back several times since I did my tour there. My brother was deployed in Munich at the consulate for 20 years... retired and stayed. I visit him when I can, in fact, I'll be heading over in May.

If I remember correctly I was in A-1-26. Of course the females were not near my barracks. Interestingly though I caught a stress fracture on the week of the last PT test...and got a profile for 2 weeks I think. So I didn't get to leave with my class; I stayed behind and rehabbed until I was ready for the test.
In that timeframe they filled my barracks with a female battalion and oh my was I in heaven!! I was on CQ duty a lot in the building and I stayed on the first floor with maybe 3 other holdovers.
Our note passing system would have put any prison to shame. I never read or wrote as many small notes before. These girls were horny as hell (so was I of course) and any contact with a male was cherished.
I'll just end by saying that a lot of support personnel in our company were caught and got dealt with. I did not get caught but I had my one sexcapade that worked out quite well. :)

Nice move! We had a few guys get busted for fraternizing, most notably one brainiac who had a window facing their barracks. Did a "striptease" on top of his bunk in full view of the window, never stopping to think there might be someone who didn't want to see him... like the platoon sgt! Ah, the good old days....

If you were 25ID, you must have lived on Schofield, right? Since I worked right next door at Kunia, they had us at Wheeler for a couple years and then at A quad. I spent most of the 80s there. Watching you ID guys on those BN runs was painful, especially the ones up the pass. Sure glad us MI troops played basketball and volleyball for PT!

I actually lived off-post, rented a house on the beach at Kahuku with two other guys. But as much time as I spent there, I may as well have lived at Schofield.

Currently applying for the Army/Navy/USAF HPSP scholarships. If I get it, I'd commit to Virginia Commonwealth (the only med school I applied to and got into this year just as a test run), graduate, and serve in whatever department is footing the $90000+ bill. It's not bad considering you get instant captaincy and residency (I heard first choice residency success rate is like 0% at VCU) along with the usually free ride. If I don't, I'll still re-apply next year when (if) I apply to all my colleges for real.

Alright my man! As for me Nov. 61 - May 66 ended up RD2, passed the first class test (only took it because LBJ extended my rear) but wouldn't let me sew that crow on unless I shipped over and I said "No thanks". Wanted to see what dry land looked like again.

What was great was going to sleep with the window open and the sound of crashing waves playing like white noise in the background. I usually had to wake up well before dawn, so there was nothing pleasant about that part...

Heya guys, been meaning to reply to this thread for bit, just hadn't gotten around to it.

Lets see I'm AD in the Air Force right now, joined in Jun 99. I work as a meteorologist. Pretty cool job, get paid to be wrong lol :sidelol:. I've been stationed so far at Scott AFB, IL; Kunsan AB, Korea (The Kun baby), RAF Mildenhall, UK(Best assignment so far, the travel was great); currently at Randolph AFB, TX but heading to Camp Blanding, FL (in July) to be an weather instructor for Air National Guard members just coming out of their Initial Skills Course. Lots of moves in my short 8 1/2 yrs in. Hopefully this one in Florida last alot longer.
