It's because Subway is supposed to be somewhat better for you than fast food options. If they start overloading it, what good is that pitch?

You can ask for anything extra (except meat) for no extra charge, and I find there is enough meat anyway.

Maybe it's just bad luck, but it seems like the meat I get is dangerously close to being translucent. And then it gets like 2 layers, for a total of like 8 slices of meat on a foot long. I don't know, it doesn't look anything like the picture or a commercial, and honestly I sometimes wonder if there's anything but bread and lettuce on the sandwich.

Firehouse is good too, good call. I like Publix more though, guess it's because it's right next to my house and I eat it like once a week.

This is wrong. Try to get extra cheese on a footlong sub and see how much it costs you...

Might as well order another 6 inch seafood sub, it would cost about the same.

    You're right about cheese.

Though it's like 25 cents or 50 cents extra.

Subway's meatball sub is always satisfying. No skimping there.

    Publix subs...mmm...

Not in my area they aren't.

I had one try to give me a 6 inch meatball sub with 2 (two) meatballs on it. Guessing the teen age girl was poorly trained or brain dead. All of the Subways in my area skimp badly on meatball subs and tuna subs if you dont pay for extra meat. Even the quality of their meats have gone down. I got a similar meatball sub at Steve Smiths subs, lots of bread very little meatball.

I like subways bread very much but am getting fed up with the skimping. Rusos in WPB and Publix, are much better.

I very rarely go to Subway anymore due to very poor subs. They used to be one of my favorite sub shops.

Sad thing is there used to be a few mom and pop sub shops around here that were great. But most have gone out of business.

Best subs in our area are JERSEY MIKES...amazing quality of bread and meats/cheese and quantity....growing up on Jersey Shore and now getting them here, very, very happy.
Nothing better than ordering it MIKE's way!

I think it really has to do with the area, and also with the individual franchisee.

Here in Seattle there is so much competition for your restaurant budget that even holes in the wall are pretty good.

Also the Subway franchise near me is exceptionally good. Sometimes I'll order a BMT with double meat and it makes 2 very hearty meals for around $10. And the 12" meatball sub always has 9 meatballs on it; plenty for one in every bite.

And their staff is always pleasant; I've been to other Subway stores where I'm glad the food is prepared in front of you, because I'm sure that given the slightest opportunity they'd spit in your sandwich.

Again, a lot has to do with the franchisee; every Quizno's I've been to here has been an awful experience. And talk about skimpy! They make Subway look positively magnanimous by comparison.

The best subs are made at home. Rare Roast beef, Peppered Turkey, Pastrami, Swiss Cheese, Chipotle Cheddar Cheese, Lettuce, Tomatoes, and your choice of condiments. Boars head cracked pepper spicy mustard is awesome. Onions are to be used rarely, and sparingly. Oh, and don't be a cheap *** on the bread either. Get fresh sub rolls from your favorite bakery.

    Let me get this straight.

There is someone on this planet who actually likes the yellow plastic like substance that once might have seen a cow from a long distance that Subway puts on their sammiches?

As far as a fast food chain goes I actually think Subway has reasonably tasty food, but their cheese is horrible.

i have not eaten a Subway sub in years now, since Publix opened near me. somebody recently opened a Jersey Mike's in the same shopping center as Publix. i tried one, and immediately regretted wasting the meal on it when i could've had a Publix sub. for less.

i predict they will be out of business in 6 months.

i will also say that Firehouse subs are pretty good as well.

I agree with this 1000%. I have been to several Subway's and the quality is all over the board.

The one about 3 blocks from me in Tucson was absolutely TOP-NOTCH. Always over-loading the sandwich and made exactly how i wanted it.

There is one about 5 blocks from me here in Texas and it absolutely SUCKS!!!

I have not had much luck with Quizno's either.

I remember having a sandwich that was REALLY good from them several years ago...and that was the last good one I had.

Well then I feel double blessed, our JM's is run by a family from the Jersey Shore, and wanted to move to this area, but gets all his materials trucked in from same locations that provided his BEACH store.

The quality is top notch because of it.

I know PIZZA is similar about where they get their materials and ingredients. I remember in Phoenix/Scottsdale area a particular NY Style PIZZA location opened, and for years, they had to FLY their water and dough supplies in from NY/NJ suppliers cause the water just wasn't the same in AZ (for good or for bad). It took this dude a few years to have the AZ water tested and treated via items he would add in order to duplicate the NY/NJ quality for the dough, etc. Now he has it down pat - and it tastes great without having to fly it all in.

Crazy, but Nabo is spot on....location, location, location and exactly how each wants theirs to be run, and accept quality vs. simply attaching a NAME on the door and expecting it to be the same.
