In honor of the turn of the decade, I thought it might be fun to do a little reflecting. I'll start.

    10 years ago......

I didn't own a computer and had only experienced the internet via dialup.

I'd never owned a cell phone. Once owned a beeper (pager).

I earned somewhere in the area of $5.50/hr.

I couldn't wait to get home and play franchise mode Madden.

I lived in a small rural town in South Florida.

    I drove a '94 T-Bird.

I'd recently lost my best friend to adulthood (military).

I was in my third year at the local community college, barely enrolled.

I'd never lived on my own.

    I was 20 years old.

And I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life.

I was in High School, a freshman.

I lived with my parents, in Ohio.

I spent most of my time in a basement.

I loved playing football and couldn't wait for my sophomore season.

I couldn't wait to get my learner's permit.

I never thought a girl would be interested in me.

I couldn't wait to get home an play Madden, and many other video games.

    I was bored at school.

    I missed my dad (divorce).

    I was 14 years old.

I too had no idea what I wanted to do with my life.

10 years ago i was 10 years old. My biggest fear at that time was having my parents sign a test i did not do to good on. I lived in New York 10 years ago and never dreamed of living anywhere else... Since then i am in College, and currently live in Las Vegas, seen the yankees win 2 more world series, 00 and 09, yet to seen the Dolphins win one. No cell phone 10 years ago, and still had dialup. Had my CD Player and only had 12 songs i listen to...

    First and foremost:

The Twin Towers were still standing.

I just got out of the Army and moved back home to Orlando

I was 25, in great shape, and landed a great job

I was driving a 95 Mitsubishi Eclipse at the time

I owned a PC that had a 333MHZ pentium 1 processor, with 20 GB of RAM

I was only about $$10,000 in debt, mostly primarily due to my car.

My daughter graduated high school in the spring of 2000.
Worked at Dollar Tree doing receiving and unloading semi trucks full of merchandise. (this is why I feel older than dirt some days.)

I drove an 89 ford focus.
    I was still in undergrad.
    I lived with my parents.
    I made 10.00 per hour.
I can't remember my hair color from back then. (Still can't remember my natural hair color).
I never saw a Dolphins game.
I wore mostly black as I was coming out of my goth phase.
    I could sleep for days.

10 years ago i was entering high school (1999-2000 = freshman).

i had been playing guitar for only one year.. i sucked, but i could mimic what the lead guitar player was doing with chords and was in a band. awesome.

i had more friends then than i do now, but i have better friends now than i did then. and longer lasting ones as well.

i was drinking a bit. yeah, 10 years ago.

i lived up north instead of down in the southern part of the state. it does make a difference.

    ...

damn what the hell happened 10 years ago? i can't remember.

growing up minutes outside NYC, i decided that 1999 into 2000 was the year to see the ball drop in times square.

I bought a beautiful, new, black corvette. i was teary eyed driving it home.

i got crushed being what i thought was responsible, investing most of my money in stocks and mutual funds.

i had just lost my grandfather, who was the first huge family death in my lifetime.

    i was 22.

i had just received an email from the girl who would become my wife....

changing me for the better, happier, and poorer...to this very day :)

Ten years ago I was living in the Florida Keys. Sounds ideal. I took a leave of absence from work to join my husband who entered a business venture. It was beautiful; I was happy. Due to the constraints of my contract,.on leave, I could only be a substitute teacher, and those kids in the Keys were brutal to subs despite my many years' training and experience. The locals treated us with respect, somewhat, because my husband and I are down-to-earth, yet we were still "outsiders." We eventually moved back to South Florida from the Keys just prior to 9/11 for many reasons. I got my job back, but my husband did not until 2002, as the fall out of 9/11 affected his industry. We all survived. And, from the experience, we know that we can live on one paycheck, even if very small.
We still visit the Keys regularly and have many friends there. It is a great place to visit---and I still miss the cool house we rented on Cactus Street with its open access ocean side. Great times that only the truly situated can enjoy longterm...

I had internet access, via an AOL phone line. I also had a cell phone. I ordered my clothes and makeup online, despite the delivery charges, because driving to Miami (Kendall) was arduous. I was totally "dialed" into the best AOL could offer. Today, I have my Blackberry which takes place of all, but ten years ago I definitely had Internet and an active cell phone.

I was driving the same 1989 Nissan 300ZX that I drive today; my baby.

I was recovering from several surgeries to fix a botched sinus surgery that left me on a spinal tap for 3 days.

I was just coming out of the funk following a failed relationship; the last time I gave my heart away that completely...probably the last time I ever will.

Despite all that, I was juggling more casual relationships than I could logistically manage.

I celebrated the birth of my only nephew.
I had a computer and internet, but had no idea there was this thing called "message boards."

The hard drive on that computer was around 200mb; RAM wasn't much more than that.

On New Year's Eve, I toasted myself and proclaimed that 2000 was going to be "Joe-2K."

I was about to have the best year of my life.

Tomorrow night I will toast myself and proclaim that 2010 will be "Joe-One-Oh."

i was 31, and settling into being married to a great girl who gets me. and i get her. and neither of us have tried to change the other. ten years and several divorced friends later i understand much better the importance of that.

i had just finished up the last semester of classes at the College of Charleston, before doing my student teaching in the spring.

i had also just finished coaching future Atlanta Falcon Roddy White on his JV team. he played some CB, Safety, and WR for me. but was undersized at the time.

i was also praying alot for guidance on the impending birth of my first daughter (of 3). she turns ten in February. she changed my life in so many ways. i cannot imagine life without my girls.

i was little more than a year away from discovering i had cancer and undergoing surgery and radiation treatment for it.

everyone was jonesing about the dreaded Y2K bug... :)

Ten years ago I was traveling for the company I worked for as a training supervisor and I loved it. Part of that job included reworking all the company's recipes and making sure every Cafeteria's books were up to date.

I was 4 months away from getting sick and finally giving up my biggest bad habit - smoking - which I had done since I was in my teens. I was also 4 months away from being 59. I stopped cold turkey and have, honestly, never looked back, thanks Mom God bless you.

I was in my third year in college

I was still in love with a friend of mine and had fun watching her hit on another man all night

I was excited because I could listen to the song 1999, on december 31st 1999, while partying like it was 1999

I was excited when my downloads were over 3 kilobytes per second

I was excited about my awesome 100 gig hard drive

    I actually owned porn VHS

I chatted about the Dolphins all of the time at Herald Talk where I was part of the non existant clique and made fun of CKParrotHead a lot

    I used ICQ

I thought I would never own a cell phone and that they were unnecessary

I had a 27 inch tv and never used the phrase, "Regular D" (instead of HD)

i can remember thinking cell phones werent necessary. i have graduated to thinking that only the voice and text capabilities are necessary, while all the other functions are just fluff lol

10 years ago i was still in high school and am now nearing the end of my 8-year undergraduate plan lol.

things just never work out the way they you think they will. i never thought i would be living in florida. i never thought i would still not be done with college. i never thought i would be married

but i have no complaints. i took a bit of a life detour in my early 20s and did some dumb things. while i may have lost some time, i gained experience, maturity

    Lets see.....

10 years ago, I was the ripe age of 4..........and was more mature than Griddles will ever be :tongue2:

    Seriously:

    10 Years ago, I was a 30 something bachelor.
-I am now very lucky to have been married to an incredible lady for 7-1/2 years

10 Years ago, I had no kids,
-I have 2 now. I honestly have zero idea how I ever got along without them

10 Years ago, I was driving a '92 Ford Exploder.
    -I have since updated to a '96 Exploder and now a 2005 F-150 4X4 Fully loaded Laredo :hi5:

Funny thing about both Exploders... I ended up getting really really nice tires bought, by Ford to replace the ones they came with. I put BFG-AT's on both.... I had several blowouts on the tires that came on them....but never had any bad experience of rolling over... I think that was more driver error than anything.

10 Years ago, I had internet at work, nowhere else.

10 Years ago, I STRONGLY remember Y2K...what a load of crap. All you had to do was monkey with the date on your computer ,and viola....fixed.

10 Years ago I was living in Tucson Arizona...working for a very very large Engineering Company.
-I now live in Northern Texas and still work for that same company.....
