can pat white do what he does? 11 catches for him yesterday replacing welker. he is 6' 198 pounds. running qb in college at kent state. seeing him run good routes, and play decent nfl slot WR.....can we have hopes that white can do that? (if moved there of course) what say you?
Man I hope he can, After seeing the way they had him playing QB... QB is not the place you want him lined up at next year.
IIRC alot of people said that early this year and late last year. He was the one who said he would only play QB. Maybe after yesterday, he'll change his mind.
Unless he can play better than Hartline, Camarillo, and Bess, no I'd rather just see us give him another year to try his hand at QB. Either way he's not going to be happy here, he's stated very vocally he wants to be a QB. And honestly I don't think he'd be that adamant about playing QB if he thought he could make it as a WR. Give him another year to get adjusted to the NFL, maybe bulk up some, and then evaluate again. I'm hoping he turns around, but I really don't think WR is the answer. In fact, I really don't know what the answer is for him. That being said, I do like the prospect of having a WR who would ultimately be able to add another trick to our arsenal. But I just don't see anything that indicates it would actually work outside of hopes and dreams from us.
The thing the irks me more about Pat White than any other - and it's not so much on him as the coaching staff - is that they tried to change his throwing mechanics. Didn't his accuracy grade out as one of the tops at the Senior Bowl/Combine? Anywho, yes in regards to WR. Every avenue should be explored with White, because he will never be a starting QB for the Miami Dolphins. Hell, I wouldn't be opposed to seeing him return some punts either.
The biggest question I have about the White pick is: Did the regime draft him as 'Henne Insurance' not knowing Chad would prove to be a solid QB, or was he strictly the next step in the evolution of the Wildcat? If it was the latter, you'd think they'd have alot more plays for him given how much we used the Wildcat early in the season. Either they weren't that comfortable with him in the game (which doesn't make sense given he came in some crucial situations) or the plan was for him to battle Henne in years to come for the starting job. I was willing to give the pick a chance even though I didn't agree with it at the time, but it's beginning to look like a gamble that didn't pay off.
Well it was being said that the Dolphins were looking to add a "play maker"....and to me, that was why we took White and I would have to say that the only thing that makes sense is that they took him with the Wildcat in mind, firstly, back up QB second. Because there's just no way to justify drafting Pat White, to develop as a pro set QB with that high of a pick.
This would be the perfect scenario White to wide receiver and re-sign Pennington as a number #3 QB at a reduced salary
I think White has to move to WR in order for us to ever get any sort of return on our draft pick. That being said, I'm not entirely sure he can do what Edelman does, if only because we don't have the Pats offense.
He's certainly quick and shifty enough to return punts, although I don't think he has the breakaway speed to return kicks and become a full time returner. Ted Ginn should be our kick returner next year, anyway. I think it'd be a great idea to use White as an all purpose player; Wildcat / Option QB, slot receiver, punt returner, maybe even run a few reverses here and there. I don't think he should ever have a full time position. He brings a lot more to the table than people think.
I think Pat White should play position X, which means WR, RB, hell remember Shula putting Nat More at TE, well he'd play there to. Pats a playmaker, not a full time QB. Now, I think you still give him some practice, because even at WR, you can get creative and let him throw it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
if he still a fin... I really have a hard time believing he is going to be back. I just dont think he fits the mold of what the Fins are trying to do now..
It cracks me up when people say that White was the best QB at the Senior Bowl. Have you ever looked at who the other QBs were? White has very small hands, I see no reason he would be any better catching the ball then he is at throwing a NFL football.
I doubt we get rid of a second round pick from 2009 in 2010... plus he really doesn't have any trade value.
I can't wait for Edelman to show how overrated Welker is. This kid is an undrafted free rookie free agent who was a QB in college yet in the two games that he started in place of Welker he had 20 catches for over 200 yards. That screams product of a system.
I think they take a look at him as a slot reciever he's shifty and not afraid to take a hit definitely a Welker type player. We only have 1 really good reciever right now in Bess, Hartline is promising but Ginn and Camarillo are both average at best, Cam has alot of heart but he is slow and rarely if ever gets YAC Ginn is cowardly and never get's YAC if we get a true deep threat Ginn really has no place here. Hate to lose Camarillo but i'd like to see us get Marshall for cheap for #1, Bess at #2, then have Hartline and White in the 3 and 4 spots.
Go look at Edelmans stats against the Jets...nevermind, I'll tell you them. He had 8 catches for 98 yards...but when Welker played against them in the second game, Welker had 15 for 194. So, Welker doubled Edelmann's production against the same team. Not to mention, Welker has three straight 100+ catch 1000 yard seasons. He did it this year by while missing basically three games. You can call him whatever you want, but he's done more than any receiver we've had in the last decade. Oh yeah, his ypc hasn't really increased since he was in Miami...so it's not just the Pats system... Posted via Mobile Device
I'm pretty confident that if Welker had been gone all year that Edelman would've had 100+ rec and 1,000+ yds this year as well. Not saying he's as good as Welker is right now, but Welker is definitely overrated in the media.
Welker is just one of those players that never get's any respect. I've never understood it. I always felt he was the best reciever we had when he was here in Miami and had no doubt he would light it up in NE. I don't think the guy is overrated at all He's breaking records for receptions every year and has more heart and tenacity than pretty much any player i've ever seen. If anything he's finally getting the respect he deserves although it does really annoy me that he's doing it as a Patriot :/
He got a pro bowl last year, despite only having 3 TDs, a 10.5 ypc average, and being his team's #3 WR (on the depth chart). I am certain he gets plenty of respect.
Welker wasn't the number three receiver last year. Anyone who thinks that Stallworth was the number two is just lying to themselves. If Edelmann would go for 1000 then the Pats system must be amazing!! Why doesn't EVERY team employ it? I mean, if you can turn scrubs into 1000 yard receivers, I don't get why any team or OC would do ANYTHING different. Acting like Welker isn't that good is silly. Posted via Mobile Device
I'm sure many of the plans to get White more involved with the offense were sidetracked with Pennington, Cobbs and Brown going down. It was great to hear he was at practice today. The guys a gamer.
The irony is that Edelman was brought in to Davie for a look just before the draft .At that time he was considered to be a poorman's version of Pat White . We decided to draft White with our first No 2 pick whilst Edelman was drafted by the Pats with a 6-7 th rounder. Now we are asking if White will ever be as effective as Edelman .
I said on the depth chart, and that is a fact. Welker was absolutely #3 on the depth chart. I'm sure that if every team had Tom Brady who has amazing short area accuracy, a very good to great OL, as well Randy Moss, then I bet every team would use it. That's assuming that someone posting that Welker is overrated thinks either Welker or Edelman are scrubs (which is not the case). All you need to do is look for certain attributes to fill Welker's role. Can everyone do it? No. Can only Welker do it? No. Welker is a significantly limited player, that's not as much a knock as it is just the truth, because he sure as hell gets the most out of his ability, and I wish I could say the same about a particular WR on our team.
He threw better than anybody at the Combine. Only Stafford didn't participate there. I don't know if it was mechanical changes or what here, but his accuracy really regressed once he got to Davie. I agree he needs to be in the 'athlete' column. Line him up everywhere. But Thigpen needs to be the first guy off the bench should Henne go down. Had Sunday's game been a truly meaningful one (i.e. we had 9-10 wins), Thigpen should have gone in.
Wtf does my view of him matter in regards to how much respect he gets? He got to the pro bowl where 2/3rds of the voting is on coaches and players. if he wasn't respected he'd never get to the pro bowl, especially since other than rec. his #'s weren't impressive.
How many receivers have back-to-back-to-back 1000 yard seasons? Being that Welker's ypc isn't really different in NE than it was in Miami, I find the argument that Moss creates Welker to be more than a little disingenuous. Does Welker benefit from Moss? Sure. Does Moss benefit from Welker? Definitely. Posted via Mobile Device
Edelman is a good player. And Welker isn't overrated. How's that? Welker is a mismatch for pretty much everybody that is assigned to him. If defenses can't stop it, how is that a knock on Welker?
Edelman is a good young player considering where he played in college but Welker is overrated by many.
Welker has proven to be a mismatch for anyone defense's have lined up against him. I'd say that's pretty darn good. And he's continued to improve every year. Think we could have used him the last few years?
It is pretty darn good. I don't know that we could've used him the past few years, it depends how we would've planned on using him. I'm not sure he has improved over the past 3 years either. At the very least, if he has improved each year, I don't think it has been very much recently (not that that is a terrible thing).
