Although it has drastically improved near the end of this season, our special teams has been just pretty poor for the past two years under the tenure of John Bonamego. The Bills cleaned house yesterday, and it has now been made official that thier special teams coach Bobby April is availiable. To say the least its the one coach Bills fans were not hoping for his firing. April was named special teams coach of the year twice in 2004 and 2008. I cannot say that I am an expert on special teams coaching, but he seems to be the elite in the NFL. I throw this idea out to a more informed poster then I. Is this an option? Would this be a guy the Trifecta would be interested in surrounding themselves with? What is the current status of John Bonamego position in Miami?
I don't know much about him, but he sounds impressive at least. That being said, our ST really wasn't all that awful this year. I don't recall any game we gave up a return TD. And only occasionally did we get gashed on return yards, maybe to the tune of less than 10 times this year? Our Punt Returns have been abysmal though, and the Kickoff returns, outside of Ginn's two great run backs in the Jets game, were passable with the occasional break out.
Their ST have been the lone consistently bright spot on the team. He is obviously a big part of that. Fly him down and talk to the man!
yes, bobby april would be helpful and has an eye for a good returner. Living in western NY and seeing a ton of bills games i can honestly tell you their special teams has been consistently good because of this guy.
Our ST's stunk last year but they were pretty good this year. I would say they were the most consistant part of the team.
