I'm not sure he will be taken ahead of the 6th-7th round if he just tries to go straight to the NFL after that layoff. Unless he participates in the combine and puts up some crazy numbers. Money wise he'd be better served coming back a year.
Truthfully I think he would be drafted in the 6th or 7th if he entered the draft right now. It has worked for a few guys. I don't think Coop should take the risk but thats just me
Wisconsin is going to be a scary team for the next year or two, IMO.. they're very talented and extremely young.
Maybe now that football season is over we can start talking about some 'Canes basketball. They are 13-1 and after the Pepperdine game on Sunday, they begin their ACC schedule. I figure if they win half of their remaining 16 games, they make the tournament. Thoughts?
I've been following them as close as I can, Rev, and they're an impressive young team. I thought the program would roll over and die without McClinton this year, but Dwayne Collins has certainly picked up the slack to lead this basketball team. Durand Scott and Malcolm Grant have been awesome, too. Both will be great in a year or two. I'm really excited about our future on the perimeter. I'm spying NCAA Tourny for this group... we're 13-1 with a 1 point loss @Boston College. Couple of impressive wins against Minnesota and South Carolina, but we've positioned ourselves well to get in with just mediocre ACC play. This team can beat anyone on any given night because of our shooting. We can really turn it on.
Disagree. They'll be back in the Champs Sports Bowl again next year, if that. They'll never be a step above Ohio State, Iowa, and/or Penn State. I don't even know if they're better than Northwestern. Wisconsin literally has one impressive win on their resume this season, and it came on Tuesday night... and most people came away more unimpressed with Miami than impressed with Wisconsin. Add me into that group, and I am not being bitter... I was very impressed by that Clemson team that came into Miami and gave us the business. This is not a very quality football team, IMO. It just shows you how poorly coached Randy Shannon's boys are.
You say you're not bitter, but yet I never, ever, see you give credit to ANY team that beats Miami. Nor have I seen you give credit to any teams that finished higher in the ACC. It's always a pity party on Miami's performance and Randy Shannon's ability. I know it seems impossible, but there is a chance that some teams that Miami plays (or doesn't for that matter) are one or more of the following: 1. Simply better teams (in regards to coaching, execution, preparation, and philosophy/schemes) 2. More talented teams (yes kids from Florida are fast, but that doesn't always mean more talented) 3. Match up well against Miami I mean it's always Miami loses the game, never the other team wins. Maybe Miami just isn't as quality a team as you'd like to portray them as being.
Maybe this season, considering Wisconsin is a team full of freshmen and sophomores... I think Wisconsin will be among the Big Ten's top three by 2011. The Big Ten has always had a rotation of their top three teams, much like most conferences. Usually Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan take two spots while either Wisconsin, Northwestern, and Iowa take the other. Of course there's always a surprise here or there. Hopefully the Big Ten can continue to win so they garner some more respect from non-Big Ten followers. For the record, this is coming from an Iowa fan... I'm not saying this because I want to.
It's all a matter of having the ability to read, although sometimes that may be a bit too much to ask. I know. You just quoted me in saying that I was impressed by Clemson in their victory over Miami. Funny thing is, your #3 is exactly what I said after the outcome of that game; Clemson is the only team in the conference that can match up with Miami's speed and athleticism 100%, so what are you saying? I also credited Virginia Tech for completely pounding us... 31-7, what is there to say, the rain? Never. Just because I also take the time to find wrong in my team's performance rather than jumping on the bandwagon of the opponent means nothing. I am not the type to sit down and overdo credit to my opponent after defeat; I wasn't raised to bow down like a *****, sorry. That, however, has absolutely nothing to do with respect. I've shown enough respect to Virginia Tech and Clemson. North Carolina and Wisconsin? Didn't see it necessary. Do I feel like Miami laid an egg against Virginia Tech and could have at least competed? Yes. Do I feel like Miami is still better than Clemson and SHOULD HAVE won that game? Yes. Do I feel like Miami (more so Jacory Harris) blew that game against North Carolina? Yes. Do I feel like Miami is a far more talented team than Wisconsin? Yes. If I'm wrong for that then that's too bad for you because you seem to be the only one who cares. Still... I don't get it. If I'm blaming the coaching staff, isn't that in essence CREDITING THE COACHING STAFF OF THE OPPONENT? Credit is credit, whether coaching or personnel, right? And you're putting more words into my mouth. I stated that Miami is a better team than Georgia Tech -- ACC winner. That's all. I've never been high on Georgia Tech. I don't feel like they're that good of a football team. They're fake to me. Phony. Big deal. Did not say that Miami is better than 'every team that finished in front' of them. I strongly believe that Virginia Tech, in 2009, is the very best team in the conference. Miami is right up there at #2, IMO. It's my opinion. So what? Hypocritical response though... you guys do that **** with the Dolphins every week so I don't want to hear it.
Looking back at some posts, I am mixing some things up between you and another poster (so I apologize if I put words in your mouth), however you don't "have to bow down like a *****" in order to give some credit to another team. No, I personally don't think blaming your coaching staff is giving credit to the opponent's coaches. I think blaming your coaches gives less credit to the opposing coaches. But whatever. I also don't see how it's a hypocritical response, because I sure as hell don't do that every week with the fins.
I think that in a Miami Hurricane thread any Cane fan should be able to say anything they want (Not break rules of thephins.). Ppl are mad and see things differently. Just drop it and discuss this in another thread thats about a game. HD is a diehard like most of us and takes things hard and I respect that alot cause I am the same way. He vents alot and this is the place for that. Not a place where he needs to worry about what other teams fans think of what he posts.
AH...no. I follow this **** closely. Miami Lost ONE game all year to a team that was better. Clemson. and they had a ton of chances to beat them as well.
Miami 86 Pepperdine 63 14-1 to end non-conference play. Next up: Wake Forest at home on Saturday to begin the ACC play. My prediction: get 8 more wins out of the 15 games you have left and you're in the tourney. Go 'Canes!!
For all of the J12 bashers out there... he may need surgery, and one way or the other, he may miss most if not all of the Spring. That thumb clearly effected his play. At first I thought he just hit a wall, but then I saw the major difference in the delivery of his throws since the injury become public.
Lol, watching this and many other ACC involved Bowl games... Miami better win this WEAK *** conference next year
So am I. Now next year becomes a MUST for Randy Shannon, IMO. ACC title or he goes. If Shalalalalaa disagrees (which she will because his kids are graduating) the fans will Larry Coker him.
The first half of the basketball season was mostly smaller schools. The 2nd half starts Saturday night against Wake Forest. Followed by schools like Duke, UNC, NC State, FSU, Georgia Tech, etc. School with much bigger basketball programs, some bigger than their football programs. Now we get to find out how good our basketball team is.
Storm Johnson will be on campus as an EE in 10 days. Very excited about this kid who we stole right out of Georgia's backyard. Latwan Anderson visits in a week. Love this time of year.
The Hurricanes are getting the final visit from Seantrel Henderson. He is rated as the best prospect in the country according to Rivals. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Seantrel-Henderson-71634
Playing well right now. Maybe this will help them jump into the top 25. Next two games are road games: Virginia Teach on January 13th and Virginia on the 16th. Go Canes!! Rest of the Story
560 WQAM is reporting (I think it is Adam Kuperstein) that Marc Whipple is interviewing for the head coaching job at USF and Tennessee.
More like he had a weak SAT score and they gave him **** about it...and he told them to go to hell. Donna Shalala must go.
Skip Holtz to USF. I would be surprised if Tennessee goes with the unproven Whipple, but according to ESPN it appears they've got their sights set on Duke's David Cutcliffe at the time being. Holtz leaving East Carolina, however, opens up a potential spot for Whipple, and you know that program is going with an offensive minded head coach... Whipple isn't ready yet, IMO. And it'd suck for Jacory and this young offense to have to learn another offense. Hope he stays but I wouldn't bank on it until the very last second.
Tough, tough loss @Virginia Tech. Didn't have a chance from the jump. I think the score was 28-6 at one point in the first half, and Virginia Tech was up by I believe 27 at the half. That's OK. We'll get them at the Bank Atlantic Center -- bank on it. We've got to grab a tough win @Virginia on Saturday to even up our conference record once again. @ Virginia vs. Boston College @ Maryland vs. Virginia Tech VERY important to come out of that stretch 4-3 or 5-2 in the ACC. It gets extremely tough immediately after. The ACC is so wide open that it's probably going to take an 8-8 conference record to get into the dance. I like how our schedule ends and we've got a nice shot at ending the season 4-1 or so to make a push. Got to capitalize now before we get into the thick of things, though.
Turd Taylor is so bad that I refuse to think that they are that much better at every other position. Clemson at least had the best player on the field.
Tyrod Taylor isn't garbage, he's decent enough and due to his athleticism was able to be Nebraska. Combined with their RB corps, they are the team to beat in the ACC, IMO. In regards to Whipple, I'd love to know who started the talk between USF and Whipple's representation. Did Whipple actively seek to get the job @ USF or was he approached? Is he trying to jump ship?
I don't think Tyrod is that bad. He's pretty decent actually. If he improves greatly then Virginia Tech will be an absolute force, although that's a major question. They're offense may not be elite but that defense certainly is. I think that's the difference, but like I said, because their offense isn't as up to standards, I don't think it'd be difficult for Miami to jump them next year. Agree. And he (Spiller) was the difference. I'd take him on my (pro) team any day.
I wasn;t the guy that came up with the Nickname "Turd" Taylor. So there was a reason for that. He sucks. Inefficient. http://espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=236838 Try to find how many good games he had in his career. I bet you can't fill one hand.
Tyrod Taylor still isn't Johnathan Crompton. He complements what they do well in other phases. I do remember him running around to win the Nebraska game. Colt McCoy didn't have a TD against Nebraska, but Tyrod Taylor did. I definitely don't look forward to playing them next year, especially with Marcus Forston such a question mark and the LB corps a disaster.
They have to find a way to bulk up Sean Spence and do some plyometrics or something to loosen his hips. He's bad in coverage and he latches on to blocks like velcro.
He was worse than that. as a Freshman he looked like a lock 1st rounder int he future and a one man gang on defense. This past season he failed to have an impact in ANY GAME. BTW, do you guys remember a season (this coming season) where the pressure on the head coach and the team was bigger? it is ACC championship or bye bye Shannon IMO.
Spence had a hip pointer out of camp and was just starting to get healthy then got hurt again in the Clemson game and his knee was never 100% last year after that, and you could see it in pursuit. This year will be big for him also to see which is the real Sean Spence.
