i didnt say it was wrong. just that its funny, and large point that shouldn't be overlooked. And yes plenty of people overlook that they themselves or their neighbors, would be capable of atrocities against their fellow man.

Ya got me there, I was swatting flies from around my face during the jungle scenes, it looked so real. :pointlol:

It wasnt just the visuals, but the Na'Vi (or whatever they were called) were so well done. The eyes, the movements etc - it really seemed like they were real actors and not just CGI - The motion capture used for them was incredible, and far and away better than anything ive yet seen.

As far as anti - military, I saw it more as anti-exploitation. Remember, this wasnt the earth militaty, it was Halliburton/Blackwater. :)

Do wish Cameron had been able to do a slightly better story, but I find the people that rip him over this and therefore label it a bad movie were missing the point.

I really have got to see District 9, missed it in the theaters.

That was the point, since the movie is basically an extended version of "Alive in Joburg."

Finally got around to watching the 'Star Trek' prequel. I thought it was a great movie, and they did an awesome job getting the personalites of the crew members down from the originals.
I actually got goosebumps at the very end when Nimoy did the 'final frontier' dialogue. That was an awesome way to end it.

Finally got around to watching some films I had intended on watching in the theaters, thanks to the shoddy weather.

The Hangover - Absolutely a phenomenal and original movie from start to finish. Kind of felt like I was watching the comedy version of Memento. I loved this film from start to finish, I only wish I could have seen it with a bunch of folks in the theater. 5 of 5, maybe my film of the year.

Inglorious Bastards - Got to check out the Tarantino version of a WWII flick, and I wasn't disappointed. My only minor complaint is that I would have liked to have seen a bit more action in the film - it was surprisingly character and dialogue driven. It also went a little bit long for my tastes. Overall though, another solid film. 4.5 out of 5

I'm probably going to go to KC for a movie for my birthday next week, not sure if I'm going to see Avatar or Sherlock Holmes ... I'm torn on both of them.

Saw Avatar in 3D. The story has been done 341258719487 times before, but it still works. With effects like that, I guess the story doesn't have to be great.

i watched avatar in digital 3D last night. quick thing on that: my theatre has both IMAX 3D and RealD. i chose the reald based on the length of the movie and no ghosting of the image. also i liked the idea of having more depth in the screen rather than having a lot of things popping out of the screen.

luckily, everybody wants to the IMAX version, allowing me to walk right into the prime seats for a 6pm show at about 5:45. meanwhile the 6:30 IMAX was sold out with the line already formed. suckers lol. btw, here is one of the sites i found the info at:

    http://3dvision-blog.com/what-to-choose-imax-3d-versus-reald-versus-dolby-3d-for-3d-movies/

as for the movie itself, i thought it was great. for a theater experience, this is as good as it gets, imo. as someone else said, the way it was shot, i really didnt feel like it was watching CGI. if only George Lucas hired james cameron to direct, these would have been your Prequel Trilogy movies! cameron made the actors perform in the appropriate environment, not stand on a platform in front of a green screen and act the scene. it would have been worth the wait too

i didnt mind the predictability of the plot. it still had me excited. i really liked the the way the main character was done with switching back and forth

i didnt really mind the familiarity of the plot of 'The Matrix' meets 'Dances With Wolves' meets 'Fahrenheit 9/11.' we all found out cameron's thoughts on the iraq war....

but did it have to be so stinking obvious? hmm. what does that mineral remind me of? oh yeah, oil! did the characters really have to say "pre-emptive strike," "shock and awe,"
a war in Venezuela for us to get the point? why not mention the Patriot Act? maybe the Colonel should have been reading a Manifesto by Dick Cheney. or how about the Giovanni Ribisi character could have been talking about internment camps for the natives and then muse, "but then we'd have another Guantanamo Bay on our hands?"

i dont let those things ruin my experience. i absolutely loved 'syriana'

Saw Public Enemies, I'm a big Christian Bale and Johnny Depp fan but I found the movie to be pretty slow and boring most of the time, not to mention a lot of the scenes were really dark and hard to follow. Needless to say I was very disappointed.

It was dark as hell. It was def hard to see who was shooting who when they were in the woods. I think it's still an alright movie, but I was expecting a lot more too.

I'm not sure who was to blame on that one.

Finally watched 'No Country for Old Men' last night, admittedly on USA. I wonder how much was cut out. Even edited for cable, it was still a gritty movie. That hitman was awesome, just pure evil. I thought it was a great movie, but the ending kind of left me in limbo.......

You should watch it on DVD so you get the full effect, if you're so inclined, Jay. That's one of the best movies I've seen in a while.

I really hate watching edited movies, it's a pet peeve of mine.

I started watching Godfather III on some cable channel, edited...by the second commercial break I was nauseous because of how they butchered it.

The ending was a real tease.

They set up that showdown throughout the movie and when you finally think you'll see something, the movie goes "yea that happened, but we're not gonna show you the good stuff."

I can appreciate being suttle, but that did piss me off.

Saw District 9, very interesting movie. Will see if they decide to make a sequal out of that one, and if so, how it will be done.

They certainly set up enough plotlines for it.

    Sherlock Holmes.

As a Conan Doyle fan my biggest concern was that they'd gut the characters for action, but they did a good job. Jude law did an excellent job of portraying Watson as the man of action the way he is described in the books, not a buffoon. Still prefer Basil Rathbone as Holmes though.

A couple of little things nagged about the deductions, but I won't post spoilers.

Extract - Rented this from RedBox last night (and unrelated, but RedBox is going to kill off the rental industry as we know it. What a fantastic invention). I absolutely loved Mike Judge's previous films, Office Space and Idiocracy. It didn't disappoint, though I don't necessarily think it's got the same level of broad comedy and humor as those films. The story pacing is a bit weird, and the ending came off as too sappy, but overall I thought it was a decent film. Best part for me was Ben Affleck, with easily his best acting performance since Phantoms (which, by the way, he was the BOMB in). 3.5 stars out of 5.
