Would be surprised if they didn't go after him but thier certainly not going to throw a bunch of money at him which would I think be the only reason he would leave the Pats. As we've seen these guys are all about building through the draft. It's the right way to do things but it does get frustrating when players like Wilfork come available and we end up watching them go to other teams.
No, the Patriots are primarily a 2-gap defense. Belichick will mix it up and throw curveballs, but that's the overwhelming majority of the base defense, personnel requirements, etc.
I believe he came out the same year as Carey so 28 is about right. As for expensive...well sometimes you have to spend money to get results. You just do it smart and not go Snyder or Al Davis insane with it and totally disregard the draft. You have to spend some though.
Impossible to defend is what it would be. In our first game against them I saw Wilfork push aside one of our oline like he was a scarecrow. it was a forearm to the head and our oline bent in half, which isn't even physically possible.
Pro Football Focus graded him the 6th NT/DT in the league last year. Jason Ferguson was 25th. Vince would be a huge upgrade for us. Also it would free us up to draft the best ILB in Ro McClain. Those two would do a lot to shore up the middle of our D.
Very true Dis, but I think the point is that the transition to NT from a standard DT in the 4-3 is difficult. Many have not been able to make that transition successfully. Wilfork has done well at NT already. I remember when Teddy Washington made the transition and he struggled for his first year or two before becoming a force. I also remember the same questions about J. Ferguson when the Jests transitioned. The same is true for several 4-3 DTs that have tried to make the transition. Our issue here is that Wilfork won't have to make any transition which guys like, for example, Starks has had to do (in fill in roles). While he performed admirably, he wasn't a Jason Ferguson in that role at all and would have had an even tougher time if he were asked to transition full time. One other thing, is that the NT position makes or breaks this D. We saw that in 2008 when Fergy was out. This is certainly a value position for Parcells. That said, I don't think Wilfork is worth what he'll command on an open market. Not that he isn't very good, because he is, but I don't think he's worthy of Haynesworth money...of course, I don't think Haynesworth is worthy of Haynesworth moeny...but that's a different subject...
Yeah, well, given our druthers, I'll take McClain before Wilfork is the option is there. Then if Wilfork comes along...great...
Why does it have to be either/or? We sign Wilfork as a UFA and then draft McClain. The other way to skin the cat would be sign Dansby as a UFA and draft Cody or Dan Williams. BTW, I don't think the Pats plan on breaking the bank on Wilfork. That is why they drafted Brace and Pryor.
He also mentioned something about not liking the Miami Dolphins when he was drafted so how things change...
n a "lighter" note, I would like to see us bring in a Sumo wrestler for a try at NT. I see these Giants on TV, and wonder what if.
Could you imagine? Because if it was ever done and it was successful, well let me just say this is a copy cat league lol. I wonder if they would let them play in their skivvies.
packards picked up Raji last draft always something comes available wilfordprobems: age, money & injuries FrontOffice is on top of it, I'm sure
somehow he looks older NT's usually play well into their thirties sheds another light on the matter he would resolve the problem, but @ what price? I would rather complete the defense in free-agency than go with a PlayMaker WR in free-agency the BigGuy would bring a lot to the table
In the stroke of incredible luck if they dont tag him, and he becomes a FA....how about him at nose, and drafting McClain......?? ouch for opposing offenses...
