Ok I am officially now a member of the Steve breaston fan club after todays game. If we are going to trade for a dynamic receiver that can catch then instead of Boldin we should go after him. His YAC yards are slightly better than Boldin whom we have been rumored to go after. He also would not cost nearly as much. Just My opinion but I think it would be something to look at as he has good speed as well. :knucks:

Breaston is not going anywhere. Boldin is out. After seeing Doucet jump in and take care of business, Boldin will be traded to the highest bidder (Washington?). With that being said they cannot afford to lose Breaston too.

We should just steal the Cardinals' wide receiver coach...

Or tank next season so we can get a top 3 pick and wind up with our own Larry Fitgerald (Baldwin, Jones, Floyd, or Green).

I'm finishing Peter King's old book " Inside the Helmet".

It is the coaching. And the QB. The QB has to throw the ball where a player can make a play with it.

I saw Arron Rogers make a couple of unreal throws.

There is not a few WRs in the NFL that make plays. Everyone that catches a ball of the Packers makes plays. Everyone for the Cardinals makes plays. It does not hurt when you have big strong players. I'm tired and I'm not saying things right but certain teams make plays and others do not.

That is why I would never draft anyone under a certain size or speed. That used to be Parcell's creed and then Pat Freaking White happened.

I'm now thinking if we can't get McClain then TRY to move down.

P.S. Now playing Total War: Empires (just starting a new one with the Ottoman Empire)

I honestly do not think Breaston is that special. He's in a great pass catching offense, with an absolute stud beside him.

It's like how each WR on the Saints takes turns being the next great Dolphins free agent pick up every other week. Well at least over on FH that is.

Breaston may not be a stud, but hes a perfect fit for the Cards game, and he isnt going anywhere. They drafted and groomed Doucet to replace Boldin, and it looks like he will do fine.

Boldin is out, and Breaston is staying. Sorry guys, hes not going anywhere unless a team really does something stupid.

agreed that given a choice, Boldin is the odd man out .... Breaston is young, healthy and improving ..... Doucet is the same ....

problem is - AZ won't get what they want for Boldin, since they just have too many FAs to resign .... and everyone knows it.

i would have taken Boldin 4 years ago .... but no way now - not for his $$$$$

How good will get be when he isn't playing next to Fitz and Q?
I know he looks great, and im not doubting the guy, but i would just like to see him play without those two. I know he played a solid part of the season without Q in the lineup, but he still had Fitz - The Best Reciever in The Game.

if we pick up Dez Bryant in the draft
    having already signed Ryan Grice-Mullen
& with the ascension of Brian Hartline
I don't think we are in the free-agency market
for WR, could still happen @ ILB or NT
even @ FreeSafety, but not WR anymore
if the draft goes the way I think it will
we are no longer looking @ WR's in free-agency

free-agent WR's (Playmakers) are the most problematic positions in the NFL
if you don't need to go there, why would you? don't need a pricey PrimaDonna

Lol, Ryan Grice-Mullen has no impact on our free agency activity. Guy won't make the team, let's be honest

I agree that Grice-Mullen should have no impact on what we do in FA, but he very well could make the team.

Absolutey Love Grice-Mullin and hoping we had drafted him when he came out of HA, but Nap-Root is right. He IS Devon Bess cept 10 lbs lighter. Breaston is a solid WR, nothing less, but nothing more either.

please read my entire post before commenting on it in fragments

    collectively I stated:
    1) the acquisition of Ryan Grice-Mullen (who played opposite Devonne Bess in Hawaii & had great success in the CFL over the last two years)
    2) the rise of Brian Hartline w/the potential to be a serious PlayMaker in his second season
    3) coupled w/the possible/probable drafting of Dez Bryant in 2010
will terminate the search for a WR in free-agency, rendering it too expensive & unnecessary.

there are other more pressing needs to be addressed, if we adress the WR in the draft.

He was also considerably faster coming out of college.

    Grice-Mullin?
    Nope, don't thin so.
I'm on my phone, otherwise I would post the link to one of Padres threads where I pointed out they were very much the same player coming out of Hawaii, including a link to NFL.com -
I did see much of these kids while at Ha, and one thing I remember about Grice Mullin is his ability to run sideline routes, primarily wheel type.

the problem with an uncapped year is that all the young WRs you'd think about [Marshall, Breaston, Austin] will be RFAs, so it will take both $$$$$ and cost draft picks - with Marshall costing the most $$$$$ and picks, probably followed by Austin, then Breaston.

Breaston may not be a superstar, but do you not think he is better than anyone on our team right now ? What is clear is that 1 of the 2 [Boldin/Breaston] will have to go .... sure their priority will be to trade Boldin, but they might have a hard time doing that - which could open the door for Breaston at a reasonable price.

Here are their combine and pro day #'s for comparison (from nfldraftscout):

Bess / Grice-Mullen (pro day # in parenthesis)
    Height: 5'09"7 / 5'10"0
    Weight: 194 / 187
    40: 4.64 (4.60) / 4.53 (4.36)
    20: 2.61 (2.66) / 2.58 (2.49)
    10: 1.53 (1.59) / 1.53 (1.45)
    225 bench: 12 (17) / 17 (NA)
    Vertical: 31.5" (32.5") / 27.5" (31.5")
    Broad: 9'10" (9'7") / 9'10" (10'02")
    20yd shuttle: 4.27 (4.28) / 4.16 (NA)
    3-cone: 6.97 (7.15) / 6.91 (NA)

    http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=33004&draftyear=2008&genpos=WR

So yes, Grice-Mullen was a lot faster coming out of college (.02s faster in the 40, better shuttle, better 3-cone). The 4.53 time at the combine is actually high from what I have seen elsewhere which was like 4.46.

Only problem is FA happens before the draft, so sitting on your hands and then hoping Dez Bryant is there at 12 is a silly thing to do. Of course it's equally as silly to think that Grice-Mullen is better than any other FA WR we can get.

Folks, I LOVED Grice-Mullin when he came out, BUT keep in mind, he hasn't played a down in the NFL and only has 20 catches and 1 TD in the CFL.
Hardly a consideration for FA WR pickup to settle the position.

Well, that's one more than Pete and I :shifty:
    -
I will say, I think if anything, this means an upgrade at PR, and perhaps Cam is now on the outside looking in....its tough, I love Cam and all, but this kid was as good as Bess in the Hawaii offense. As Pete pointed out, he is faster than Bess.

I hope not, we have enough small recievers already, we need some big recievers to throw fades to in the endzone as we all saw this year Ricky doesn't cut it.

I would think if anything maybe he's depth for Bess but who knows, these guys are really good at finding talent where noone else does.

With the performance of Doucet and Breaston, Boldin is now very expendable for Arizona. I honestly believe that is who we should go after at the right price.

Back on topic... Breaston would be great, but I highly doubt Arizona is willing to part with him. They seem to have a great core with Fitz, Breaston, and Doucet (slot) so it's likely they'll part with Boldin and go with that group.
