I read this earlier. I say good for him. NBC is really trying to screw him over.

On a side note, did anyone see his show last night? He was cracking me up with his jokes about it.

Time and time again NBC shows how incredibly dumb they are. From losing the NBA to Disney to this.

I think NBC would be making a huge mistake by keeping Leno and Fallon as their two main guys. NBC better do anything to get Conan to stay because Fallon is the most awful late night host I've ever seen.

For Conan though what are his options? It seems his fans didn't follow him to 11:35 so will he be able to pull off a show at that time even on FOX? To me his best bet might be going back to his old gig at 12:35 behind Leno although he probably won't.

I loved Conan for years before he toned it down for 'The Tonight Show' so I hope he pulls it together after what NBC is trying to do to him.

I'm not sure myself. It seems like the people wanting 11:35 late night aren't the same as the 12:35 crowd. Something has to explain the slide in ratings besides the change in style.

Conan is 100% in the right here. It was dumb for them to boot Leno who was a ratings kingpin in Late Night, but they hitched their wagon to Conan and should stick with him. People forget that it took Leno upwards of TWO YEARS to finally beat Letterman. And that happen because of the Hugh Grant scandal.

Conan was even in a ****tier situation because they put Leno on before him, which pretty much underminded the Tonight Show and took guests away as well, which is something I talked about when this started.

Conan is an awesome talent and I, for one, would love to see him go to Fox (who tends to let talents have edgier shows), get the jump on everyone by starting at 11 and just be himself, again. At this point, the Tonight Show franchise is so damaged, that there is nothing special about hosting it, in my opinion.

And I REALLY hope the guy that wrote the Late Shift movie so many years ago, is taking notes because the sequal is happening right now.

Fox could make a KILLING here. Not sure what they're waiting for. They already have some great primetime shows (well, animated ones anyway) and this could help them close the gap between themselves and other networks.

BTW, the 'Pubes' guy was single-handedly one of the greatest bits in Late Night TV. If Conan goes back to Fox (he wrote for the Simpsons) all bets are off.

I have to say all the late night shows are much better now with this going on. From Conan saying that NBC treats him like a "Ho", to Letterman throwing jabs at Leno, and Ferguson doing his usual routine about this kind of stuff its been great to watch.

Conan was my favorite for years before the "Tonight Show" switch so I really hope he goes to Fox or somewhere where he can get back to his old ways.

Can NBC do anything right anymore?

I agree I am on Conan's side, that was seriously a bad deal that he got. They didn't even give him a chance to succeed, great shows are not just built overnight they take time. I seriously hope he moves to FOX or somewhere where they can appreciate his talent and give him at least the chance to succeed that he didn't get.

Conan is still a full point behind Letterman. Roughly a 2.8 share to a 3.8 share, respectively. Dave's audience hasn't really grown, Conan just lost Jay's, unfortunately.

Howard Stern was invited to be on next week (Conan's last week). If he makes it, it will be GOLD, as Howard hates Leno with a passion.

Looks like Jeff Zucker is the bad guy here, apparently he said he would put Conan on ice for the next 3 1/2 years - blackballing him - which will backfire more on him than this mess he has already created.

It took Jay 3 years to beat Letterman. I hate that they aren't giving Conan a chance succeed. They've basically screwed him over in every way possible. They give him no lead in (with Leno's terrible show), they promoted Jay's show over his, and people can get the late night talk show over an hour earlier... WTF does NBC want from the guy?

I heard about the Stern thing. I hope he does do the show, because he'll rip Jay apart. Apparently, Conan was invited to Letterman at some point. I hope he does it and speaks his mind clearly.

Link? I haven't heard anything like that yet. What a douche. Not only did he destroy the network (only to get a promotion, go figure) but is treating conan like total ****. I don't feel too bad though, Conan is going to get 20 million a year if he is put on ice. Even if it does work out that way, I can't imagine Conan won't sue the **** out of NBC.

I hope he goes to Fox and brings his edgy show back. They seem like they would be cool with that. It really is their best chance to get into the late night game.

Jimmy Kimmel was on Leno tonight (the only reason I DVR'd it) and totally ripped Leno to shreds. It was ****ing hilarious. One of the questions was "what's the meanest prank you ever pulled on someone" and Kimmel said "Promising a guy he could take over my show in 5 years, giving it to him, then taking it back.":lol: He also said that he and Conan have kids and Leno only has cars, is filthy rich, and should leave late night alone.

Once Conan is gone, I'm going with Kimmel. I've seen his show a few times (especially when Lost people are on it) and it was pretty good.

Yeah I watched the Kimmel bit and he was absolutely brutal on Leno. The crowd at some points were absolutely silent so it was great...late night shows are hilarious now.

Also I don't have much insight on Leno and although he seems like a nice enough person to me it seems a lot of industry people hate him. So I'm guessing he's actually not a nice guy. The one thing I haven't had made clear to me yet is what the beef with Leno is right now. Is it because he isn't not taking the 11:30 spot offered to him or did he ask for that time slot back. I thought NBC offered the time to him and he didn't ask for it so I'm guessing people are mad that he didn't refuse it. Either way I don't support him taking away Conan's spot either way (d-bag move actually) but I'm just wondering what is going on.

There is a LOT to this story. I recommend everyone to watch The Late Shift. It is a movie that chronicled the shuffling that happened after Johnny Carson retired. Carsonw anted Letterman (who followed his show) to be the succesor. Leno, (who had guest hosted for Johnny on numerous occasions) schemed and plotted his way into the Tonight Show, essentially screwing Letterman out of it and hence...Letterman's jump to CBS almost two decades ago. Leno went as far as to hide in executives closets and eavesdrop on conversations. He is not as innocent and lovable as people think he is.

He has been accused by a few people of ripping off bits from other comedians, hosts and media personalities (Howatrd Stern has been railing on him for years about specific bits like Jay Walking, for example).

And now, he was given five to six years of advanced notice that NBC was giving the Tonight Show to Conan. And what does he do? He angles to get himself a show DIRECTLY before Conan's, essentially undermining The Tonight Show audience and stealing the thungder form what was supposed to be Conan's spotlight.

Make no mistake about it, this was a VERY calculated move by Leno. He got all of the promotion, the better guests and did the same damn show as before, leaving Conan the scraps. Now, had his show in Primetime done well, he would have pointed to it as a reason why he shouldn't have been thrown out as host of the Tonight Show. As predicted...it tanked, thus killing any lead in audience for the Tonight Show and killing revenue for NOT ONLY NBC, but local news affiliates as well (who get to keep their own ad revenue).

Ratings plummted so badly that some local NBC affiliates were demanding to drop the Leno show all together and just run whatever in that timeslot, but NBC pulled a power play and said, if you do that, we pull the entire affiliation.

Anyhow, what it boils down to is this. Conan is a passionate guy about being a host. Letterman is too. Leno is passionate about WINNING. It doesn't matter what he is going after or doing...he simply wants to win.

It is why he hires people with no real plan for them, it is why he continues, well into his 60's to hold onto a show that, he probably doesn't even care too much for, other than the fact that he can win at something.

    Just my take.

Thanks Sam. I knew about the whole Letterman-Leno deal but didn't know exactly how Leno went about getting the job. Taking that and how his 10pm show was handled to sort of give the old screw to Conan I can see why Letterman, Conan, Kimmel, and I'm sure others hate the guy.

I had always liked that Leno got the Tonight Show over Letterman because from what I'd seen Letterman looked like the bigger douche but with that info. about Leno both are douches but Leno edges out Letterman.

Sounds like Leno is more to blame for this whole situation than NBC...although its close.

To paraphrase a great man: "My own council will I keep on what to set aside."

Fox News is a despicable and abhorrent entity, yes. And Fox Network is no better.

They're the network that takes great creative ideas, ****s with them until they ruin them, move them around the schedule so no one can find them - ending up in the worst time slot of all - and then cancel them.

They also own the rights to several iconic and long-running classic TV shows; they took years too long to finally start releasing them on DVD, then after releasing 3-4 seasons they stopped - only to release a "complete series" DVD - leaving buyers in the cold for the last seasons, or forced to re-buy what they already have in order to complete their set.

When you talk about "evil empires," Fox is one that definitely qualifies. I wish nothing but harm to them as a corporate entity, and I would hate to see them further enriched by a smart, funny guy like Conan O'Brien.

Ah glad you posted that I thought you were talking about Fox and Fox News being close in what they show. You know one is super conservative and the other typically runs shows like Family Guy (not conservative at all lol). I always thought they were way off in that way but with what you said I can see the comparison between the two.

There is plenty of blame to be had by everyone. I expect lawsuits galore forthcoming.

Conan O'Brien: He really needs to ask his lawyer how he drew up such a ****ty contract. The rumor out there is that the specific timeslot was not expressed in the terms of the contract (meaning that Conan was to be on the Tonight Show from 11:35 to 12:35). This means, if true, that NBC could theoretically move "The Tonight Show" to whatever timeslot they want and say to Conan, here is your show, per our contractual agreement. MAJOR faux pas if true and Conan's lawyers need to look in the mirror.

NBC: Honestly, they probably never should have made the switch. Leno was number one pretty much since the Hugh Grant debacle. Yet, they were hellbent on making this switch. Of course, they make this switch and promptly lose all the balls they had in the first place, and now Jeff Zucker is painting Conan to be this tremendous loser, when, in fact, it was the very executives who came up with this plan in the first place. A couple of people need to be fired over this.

Jay Leno: More backstage politics and meanderings from this tard. Honestly, he may end up the worst out of all of this because his reputation is SHOT. Comics are coming out to filet him now. When your own come out to kill you, you know you are a hated and marked man.

On a sidenote: If you didn't see Kimmel on Leno tonight, you missed a slaughtering. And you know what? Leno deserved it. He took a couple of small andunfunny potshots at Kimmel first, and Jimmy just UNLEASHED on him. Leno tried to laugh it off, but you could tell he was outmatched and very uncomfortable. Stellar.

And in the end, that is probably the most ironic part about all of this. Conan, Dave and Jimmy are just putting on outstanding performances night in and night out, currently. This issue has not only united all of them, but given them something to rally behind and motivate them tobe their best.

Apparently the ratings are boring this out too as the Tonight Show has gotten a bump. But I haven't seen Conan this loose and seemingly comfortable in a LONG time. Late night is finally watchable on a nightly basis. In many ways, I don't want this to end.
