Steelers linebackers coach Keith Butler has reportedly turned down the Dolphins' defensive coordinator job. It's back to the drawing board for Miami, after their top two choices for the job opted to pass on the opportunity. Butler is considered Dick LeBeau's heir apparent in Pittsburgh, so he could take over in the next couple of years.
Thanks. That's a bummer. I'm wondering if Pittsburgh told him something to entice him to turn it down. Like "LeBeau said he's retiring after next year and you'll be assigned DC the following year".
Jesus god all of a sudden we got the Bears syndrome and can't get a DC what the fugg is going on looks like it will be Bowles
I'm still thinking this could be something drummed up by the Pittsburg media.....call me the eternal optimistic...I'll believe it when a Miami reporter says it.... I dont want Bowles... [admin]Edited to remove foul language[/admin]
hahahah that aint gonna happen either bro, check this..... Cowboys hired Paul Pasqualoni, recently fired as Dolphins defensive coordinator, as a replacement for defensive line coach Todd Grantham.
I may be pushing the panic button a bit too quickly, but we may be in trouble with our DC position. We fired a medicore d-coordinator, most likely for the services of one of 3 canidates. All three of those canidates are now off the board. I now believe we have to roll the dice with a wildcard. We could win big, or lose big. With this I am assuming that Bowles is just Paul-lite.
yeah I'm scratching my head trying to figure out if there is anybody out there, and that isn't a good sign at all......all other DC's think they can be HC's........what about playoff teams?? any good LB/DB coaches still coaching??
maybe Clarence Brooks in Baltimore he is the DL coach was already in Miami from 2000-2004 this is just a reach really tell the truth im just as speechless as i am pissed off what a disaster this has turned into
wouldnt mind seeing them pick someone off the Jets defensesive side of the ball. Somebody that has been around Ryan for a while.
yeah me too bro...I mean Brooks sounds okay but wow, talk about let down....I'm going to the Ladies Lounge....Pagan better have something for me there.....
I'd take Campo as a fallback guy once the 'Boys are done. EDIT: on second thought I don't think his philosophy would really mesh with ours but it's possible. Maybe Pagano or Johnson off the Chargers staff.
Interesting thought....Dallas secondary is pretty damn good, they jam at the line alot, physical and have alot of talent.....he is from Groton, Connecticut as well, not far from Sporano and New Haven......
No way he turns us down unless A) He was promised something in Pittsburgh very soon, or B) Family reasons.
RIGHT??!!??!!? I'm wondering how, you are talking he can come over here, he knows he has free reign of the defense.....they need help, so he could have a huge say in the draft, and mold it the way he wants....potentially he could bring in some of his people, maybe steal another Pitt assistant....not to mention, it is a promotion, and one step away from being a HC?!?!?!??!?? I'm lost.....
Looks like were going to have a ****ty defense for the next few years.. I know I know things can happen but unless we get a top flight defensive coordinator no super bowl... I saw we open the checkbook and grab Baltimores Defensive Coordinator.
I don't really see why everyone is getting into a huff about this... the 2009 season isn't even over its not like the 2010 season is starting tomorrow
yeah youre right its only a defensive coordinator who cares... this is big stuff we are missing out on the candidates we obviously coveted you even know the importance of a quality DC
my buddy on the phone was like, "only Miami could offer a job promotion to multiple people, and they all turn it down" hahahah so true, Butler just saw how much work the defense really needs in Week 17, and was like no thanks......
yeah I'm with ya.....who needs defense.....we got Marino.......eeeerrrr Henne.....it is kind of a really big deal, they might be looking at someone lesser than PP at this point...unless one of the playoff people want it.....but hey at least the Pats are in the same boat...
I don't think that there's anything against it, but it would definitely beg the question of "why?". Baltimore can deny us from interviewing him as it'll be a lateral move. But even if they allowed us, why would he leave?
DON'T PANIC!!! Tuna will come down from the box to explain to defenders that they tackle, and cover. If not, they look for other jobs. Easy enough, over and done.
If the retread machine has any wheels: http://www.kcchiefs.com/coach/gary_gibbs/ ......and if we are just interested in "fire zone" Dick Lebeau relatives. Give Lebeau's Cincinatti Bengals defensive coordinator a go: http://www.jaguars.com/team/coach.aspx?id=2637 There are plenty of qualified candidates out there that are HUNGRY. I'm not too worried about a guy waiting on Dick Lebeau to die.
Meh no big deal, some people have different priorities a job promotion isn't always the best thing for them when they have families and are forced to relocate and work with people they do not even know. I could see alot of reasons for Butler wanting to stay in Pitt. seeing as he knows he will eventually be taking over there why go through all the hassle and take a chance on coming here when he's already got a sure thing there. I don't see any reason to panic, it's only been a few days, i'd much rather see them take thier time to find the right guy rather than just rush into things and be stuck with a piss poor DC for another 2 years.
I honestly think there are rules that we have to offer them a promotion if we "steal" them, so to speak.
I totally agree. I am sure one of the playoff teams has a guy we have our eye on. I don't think it will be Bowles, if he was a viable option he would have already been in the mix. He was a HC candidate last year and now nothing...
