We have been going after Nolan before all this happened:

    Adam_Schefter

Before Broncos and Mike Nolan parted ways, Miami sent in request for permission to interview him for defensive coordinator job.

maybe it's just me but Nolan to me does not fit into this coaching staff. They are all blue collar types, and Nolan to me with him wanting to wear suits when he was the coach of the niners just makes me think he would not fit in. I could be wrong but that's my initial feeling of him.

LOL He wanted to do that to honor his dead father... I think most anybody would admire him for that rather than see it as a fault. Doesn't have anything to do with blue collar white collar purple collar, the guy is a hard nose DC that actually puts a defense on the field thats fun to watch and without a doubt he is the best prospect available. I cannot believe McDaniels let him go, it really does make you wonder if the FO/Parcells knew something everyone else didn't.

    This.
I think he would fit in really nicely actually.
He is the type to lead by example, much like our current head coach.
I am going to be very disappointed if we don't land Mike Nolan.

I see what youre getting it but its not always the case w/ Parcells. Bellichick was definately not the blue collar type. Nor really was Al Groh.

According to the Denver Post, Nolan will interview in the next day or two with the Dolphins as they seek to replace the dismissed Paul Pasqualoni. Hiring Nolan in Miami would make a lot of sense, but the Bills and Bears may be after him as well, the Denver Post reported.

With the Broncos, Nolan used three former Dolphins -- Vonnie Holliday, Renaldo Hill and Andre Goodman -- to turn around a below-average defense and guide it to a No. 7 overall finish in the NFL statistical rankings. The Broncos finished third against the pass and sixth in sacks per pass play (Dolphins were first); however, the Broncos were 26th against the run (and 27th in rushing yards per attempt).

I'm not getting my hopes up, but Nolan is the only slam-dunk hire that's out there right now, and I'll do a little dance if we manage to sign him.

Awesome news but at the same time a bit scary. I dismissed it at first but it realy is starting to seem like we knew something ahead of time. Now I'm wondering what happens if we get brought up on tampering charges? Anyone know?

It sounds to me like we knew Nolan wasn't 100% happy in Denver, so we requested permission to interview him. When Nolan expressed interest in taking the interview it probably pissed McDaniels off and he decided to let him walk instead of interviewing to save face.

But couldn't he have kept him and if the Dolphins would have hired him for the same position they would have gave up a draft pick.

Unless the front office has a different idea they should be ringing Nolans phone right now i bet he don't stay on the market very long at all. Denvers def improved quit a bit this season over the previous.

Yea perhaps, I think McDaniels is just such a control freak that he couldn't handle Nolan getting credit for turning the defense around instead of himself so he want's to get rid of him in order to prove he can do it himself. This is the way I used to think as a youngster anyways so it makes sense to me even though nowadays I realize it's idiotic to not take all the help you can get at every opportunity. The bigger the pool of knowledge your pulling from the better your chances of success.

We would have never given up a high draft pick for Nolan. If Nolan said he wanted to leave I assume McDaniels would have let him, I mean do you really want someone working for you that wants to be somewhere else, isn't happy and may not give 100%?

Not 100% sure on this but I would think they could have also made him an assistant head coach like bowles thus justifying a promotion and avoid any penalty.

That poor run stopping ranking has quite a bit to do with the left side of the Broncos DL and LB core. D.J. Williams, both 3-4 DEs, Fields (he's ok for a NT) and especially Dumervil are poor against the run.

Our 3-4 DEs are significantly better especially Starks and Langford and Soliai/Ferguson are solid. As for Wake, I imagine if you place him at ROLB and he has another off-season of work he'll soon turn into a solid run stopper. He's got height, length, and size on Dumervil.

I wonder what the scheme will be if he's hired? Will he run ours or will he install the one he ran in Denver?

Probably he'll adapt to his personnel the way he's done in the past. Parcells and Sparano let go of a decent DC because they felt that personnel were used incorrectly last year.

Any thoughts to Adalius Thomas a cheap signing? He can play TED for a better ILB, play SOLB or WOLB and has a grudge against the Patriots as well as experience with Nolan. He'd be an excellent depth guy that performed slightly above average last year.

Thomas would be a good pickup for depth purposes. I'm not sure I would be happy if we got him to be a starter. I anticipate Porter, Ayedole and Torbor being let go so there is room for signing someone for depth purposes

a complete overhaul if you ask me.
say bye to JP, Torbor and Akina s you mentioned.

I expect a COMPLETE overhaul just as the O Line and D Line took along iwth our secondary.

This draft will be LB heavy allllll the way.

The more and more I read about the Broncos 3-4 rotation the more pitiful it sounds. So they have poor 3-4 DE play overall and then they choose to go two-gap to protect D.J. Williams? Really? Really?

Nolan at least adjusts to his personnel. If Vonnie Holliday is cut loose in Denver I would love to have him back for cheap as depth behind Starks. The man can still play.

What his style?? I know his name but not really much about him...I do know that Denver's defense was kinda awful in 2008, and last year they werent bad...however they did sign some players....

Is he a blitz heavy guy?? What type of defense does he usually run....again just asking...
