This is inaccurate from what I've read. Contractually, all Tonight Show hosts have a clause that states the TS can start at 12:05. The reason being is NBC has the rights to all kinds of **** (like Wimbledon) and a few weeks here and there the TS will start at 12:05. I know that was the case for Leno when he hosted and will be the same once he gets the job back.

The link is for anyone who wants to watch Kimmel destroy Leno.

For the record, I think this is an absolutely awful move by NBC, and Conan leaving the network has to be a worst-case scenario for them. I think it's going to come back and bite them, big time. I would not be shocked to see Leno's ratings down just because viewers side with O'Brien.

Do it Conan. Take the money, start a show on Fox and come out FIRING. Hold nothing back.

And the issue with Fox's affiliates is that at 11...re-runs of Simpsons/Seinfeld/whatever are cheap and easy and actually get pretty decent ratings. They may not want to be forced into taking a show of a guy who, in the eyes of some, just tanked the biggest late night franchise on television.

But I have always had the sneaking suspicion that Fox has always wanted to jump into the late night game, and never really had the stars align for them. This is tailor made for them. Just let Conan be Conan and everyone is golden.

And if I am Conan, I STAY in L.A., keep the staff, and go directly after Jay. If Conan goes on at 11, he is off at 12, meaning he isn't competing with Jimmy Kimmel, and has a jump on both Dave and Jay.

Seems like a win-win for everyone.

a little foreshadowing? conans opening monologue showed a huge group of people having a rally outside of universal to support conan.....they specifically showed ONE SIGN.....a sign saying

"conan is a FOX" and they showed it longer than any sign......could just be a shot at nbc.....or it could be sneaky advertising? hmmmmmm

If I'm ABC, I'm making Conan's agent an offer he couldn't refuse.

Then I'd move Nightline to 10PM, two-three nights a week.

I think ABC has hitched its wagon to the Kimmel train, and rightfully so. Conan to Fox...or here is a thought...HBO?

HBO - that's a good idea. Or Showtime - that would be quite a coup for them as well.

And the nice thing about that is that it would ease the ratings pressure for Conan for the first couple years at least, since a premium channel's audience is inherently smaller.

Thing about Kimmel is, you don't know if he'll ever be a heavy hitter. Conan at 11:37 and Kimmel at 12:37 would be a formidable lineup.

  17. Samphin

Samphin Κακό σκυλί ψόφο δεν έχει

Yeah, the issue there though is now Conan is doing to Kimmel, what was being done to him, namely displacing the current show and audience for his own selfish reasons.

Considering how Kimmel came to Conan's defense on this issue and how much he railed against Leno (on Leno's show or on his own dressed up as Leno), I can't imagine Conan doing that.

Fox is most likely the destination come September, but HBO/Showtime would be fun to watch since absolutely NO regulations would be needed. Conan doesn't strike me as a guy who swears a lot though, so perhaps having access to push the envelope on cable would be lost with someone like him as opposed to say...Kimmel.

Just speculating of course. For all I know, Conan tips 40's and smacks his *****es up backstage.

I've been reading (and conan mentioned it on the show) that NBC is going to keep all of his IP's. What a load of ****... Conan is kinda dumb to sign that **** away...

Last night's TS was money. Quentin Tarantino and Paul Bettany were pretty great. I only wish Norm McDonald had gotten more than two minutes of screen time. I would have loved to see him rip Leno/NBC.

I just hope he gets his IP back... Conan had so many great late night bits that never went with him to TTS.

I also hope Triumph is owned by Robert Smigel and not NBC.

    Smigel owns Triumph.

Who wants to bet that the first show wherever Conan resurfaces has Triumph in a bit?

But Smigel works for NBC does he not? I wonder if NBC has any say on when or where Smigel can use that bit. Especially if he has a contract with them.

Triumph has done other things not NBC related though, which makes me think NBC has no say in if Triumph goes with Conan.

Regarding Conan's IP's, didn't the same thing happen when Letterman left for CBS? NBC said they owned his bits like top ten for example, but he just changed the names and that was enough for him to do whatever he wanted legally. I would hope Conan can do the same, I would be terribly sad if I never see another celebrity survey or in the year 2000 bit.

True, but NBC may have allowed him to do those things. That may not be the case when Conan goes to another network. Not sure though, I guess time will tell.

Looks like the deal has finally been reached with Conan getting a $45 million settlement, $12 million of which staffers are getting. Other than that its just stuff that's already been posted like NBC says they own his characters, etc. and he can move anywhere he wants and start a new show in September. Nothing really shocking but worth a post I guess:

    http://www.popeater.com/2010/01/21/conan-obrien-nbc-settlement/?icid=main|main|dl8|link3|http%3A%2F%2Fwww.popeater.com%2F2010%2F01%2F21%2Fconan-obrien-nbc-settlement%2F

Edit: I see Nabo beat me to the punch on this....I guess I should read the thread next time. :D

I felt like I was watching history in the making (actually it was). I'm sure NBC had a similarly grand reaction.
