Well that's depressing news to read first thing Sunday morning. I always liked Charlton Heston. :(

Just watched Ben Hur last week. He was a great actor in his day.

He was a great actor known for his biblical roles but the younger folks might remember him in the first Planet of the Apes

They broke the mold with men like Heston,Palance,Mitchum,Douglas and Wayne.
There are no men like that today in Hollywood imo.

    Pitt,Cruise,Clooney and Affleck.:sidelol:

"Get your hands off me you filthy ape"

I'll never forget that line from the original Planet of the Apes, I always thought Charlton Heston had tremendous character, once he returned his paycheck from a film so they could film some additional scenes.

Today's Hollywood actors just don't have that presence, the larger than life aura about them, Heston had that, married 64 years as well.

Hollywood really lost it's manhood after the Eastwood and Connery and Heston just stopped making films, most of the young actors you named Den, would be stable hands in a Western, or a western union messenger in Film Noir.

BTW: One of you mods needs to merge this and the other thread.

You and I see the world the same way Den. Nobody else has mentioned Soilent Green.:wink2:

I posted in the other thread and will re-iterate here.

I told my wife last night, he was RIGHT UP THERE with John Wayne and Clint Eastwood for me.
He was an incredible actor IMO, and a great man outside of the acting world!

It is a better day in Heaven with Mr Heston there.

EDIT: Sorry CT, didnt see your mention of Soilent Green till after I posted

Enjoyed all the Heston movies that I seen. Besides The Ten Commandments, I thought The Omega Man was very good and also liked Midway. He did several westerns that I liked, Will Penny, Arrowhead and Major Dundee.

Before VCR's and DVD's he was a big box officer attraction. If he was in the movie, it was usually worth going to see.

As cncc said, it looks like the classic movie channel will be showing alot of Heston shows.

Planet of the Apes, is still IMO one of the best movies of all time, and it was due largely to his acting, RIP.

no doubt, in each case i am certain the woman in their life could kick the ever loving **** out of those modern day movie stars.

think about it; Angelina and Jennifer Garner could, no doubt, and Katie Holmes would probably have little problem disposing with the couch jumping cultist, either. that leaves whoever Clooney is dating, and he is a midget like Cruise.

    Rest in peace Charlton Heston

not me, I went and saw it at Concorde.. got some rock candy and taffy from W.T.Grants next door and had a blast. A really GOOD friday night was when Dad could afford to take us to Shorty's, then the Dixie Drive In... an ok one, Mom made sub sammiches and we caught something at the Tropicare or Coral Way.

We went to the concorde and the dixie drive inn too, my parents were in the middle of a divorce and Mom wanted to spend her evenings in peace. That usually meant a drive in movie and that made all of us happy. :)

Ah Burt Lancaster has unfortunately been gone since 1994.
He did have a great final scene, playing the old doctor walking away from the cornfield ballpark after successfully treating the choking girl in the bleachers in Fields of Dreams.

Since I was in Anaheim, without a computer, when I got the news of Chuck's passing, it hits hard, because he truly was a great larger than life man. His life was very good and active, he accomplished a lot, and carried possibly the best film ever made in Ben Hur.
