    You are a fraud

Stop commenting when you don't know what the heck you're talking about. You're making this stuff up as you go. Kenneth Sims never made it to a Pro Bowl, he certainly was never an All-Pro selection, and he damn certainly wasn't a "perennial" All-Pro. He's considered a disappointment. But, to demonstrate how stupid your point really is, the Patriots went from the 22nd scoring defense the year before Sims was drafted, to the 7th ranked scoring defense his rookie year, to the 3rd ranked scoring defense the year after, then of course, in Sims third-year, the traditionally bottom dwelling Patriots made it to the freaking Super Bowl! In the eight-years that Sims played for the Patriots, they ranked in the top ten in scoring defense six times! They were top five in overall defense twice. Top ten three times. They went from 25th in overall defense the year before Sims was drafted, to 12th the year after. That's the sort of impact a "disappointment" at DT can have.

You know how many running backs drafted #1 overall have won a Super Bowl with the team that drafted them? 3 in 37 years! Walter Payton, Tony Dorsett and Jamal Lewis, only Payton was drafted by a bottom dweller, and he was at the end of his career by the time he won it. Dorsett and Lewis went to teams that were ready to contend. This Dolphin team ain't ready to contend anytime soon.

This post is reminiscent of the one in which you claimed George Rogers had "improved" the Saints after being the top pick, when the team had in fact gotten much worse after he was taken with the top pick. It's telling that you must rely upon dishonest, or erroneous statements to make your argument for taking Darren McFadden over a lineman.

I do. Knee sprain, microtears in lats and traps. Additional stress-related injury to spinatus and quads. Will mostly be healed within a couple of months (with the back healing prior to the knee) with no permanent side effects. Enjoy.

    Re:

That should read, running backs drafted in the top five, not #1 overall. No running back since the merger drafted #1 overall has ever won a Super Bowl with the team that drafted him, in fact only one, George Rogers, has ever been to a Super Bowl, with any team.

I'd still like to pose the question whether or not it might actually make sense to switch back to a 4-3 defense and where that would leave Dorsey. If Taylor was to be traded and Thomas calls it a day (two possibilities that do not seem unlikely; especially with Cameron getting one more year and going into full rebuilding mode) we'd sorely lack the linebacking corps to play an effective 3-4. Out of the four linebacker positions, we could adequately fill two (Porter and Crowder). If we were to draft Dorsey as a nose tackle and had Holliday and Roth/Wright play DE, we'd still be two starters short, given that neither Pope nor Spraggan have the playmaking ability that is required by a 3-4 OLB.

If we were to switch back to a 4-3, however, and went for Chris Long, that would only leave us one starter shy of a solid base defense. One could of course make an argument for Dorsey in a 4-3 setup as well, but given that DE is the "playmaking position" in a 4-3, Long might just provide more value than an "ordinary" DT.

I'm not saying that we will or should abandon Capers' hybrid defense (although I wouldn't bet my crown jewels on him coming back either) but I think we'd do well to keep defensive schemes in mind when we're talking possible draftpicks. A guy that seems like a perfect fit in one scheme isn't guaranteed to be one in another.

if i hear this mcfadden crap anymore ill stab myself in the neck. our running game is sick even with a sub par o-line. ronnie brown was leading the league in total yards before his injury, then we have:
    Ronnie Brown - read above
Ricky Williams - probably not here next year but can still be a quality back in the league for a couple years.
    Jesse Chatman - solid
Lorenzo Booker - perfect fit for our offense, elusive and great at making plays out of the backfield.
Patrick Cobbs - nothing special but does the job for a 3rd/4th string back
Samkon Gado - runs hard and showed a very impressive effort yesterday.
with that said dorsey needs to perform well in the bowl game to get the first overall pick as he needs to recover from his injury and has a month to do so. if not him either chris long or vernon gholston would be great additions to replace jason taylor.
we will not take darren mcfadden i guarantee it.

this thread is funny, we got a guy saying we shouldn't draft a DT because they have a short career, then instead says lets draft a RB, haha... wtf, RBs have the shortest careers in the NFL...

2nd ronnie had 4 straight 100+ yard games, on his way to his 5th (76 yards through 2.5 quarters against NE), this including 2 200+ total yard games in that span... and guess what we were still losing... obviously the running game was working and we still weren't winning... what do you think McFadden is gonna do, get 200 yards per game? be serious...

running back is our best position, it makes no sense to add another RB there... for us McFadden would be a luxury pick, we have too many other issues to take a luxury pick...

Dorsey makes the most sense because A hes the best defensive player in the country, maybe the best player at any position period... and B that is probably our biggest need right now... in case you people havent noticed we are LAST in the NFL in stopping the run... we have given up over 200 yards rushing in a game at least 3 times, thast just what i know off the top of my head... could be more...

I do agree with you on some of the points. I wish that we could trade out of the number 1 slot and get more draft picks. If we cannot do that, then we need to take Mcfadden. I was not originally sold on this pick, but have gradually began to see some logic in it. If we do get another running back, I would use both of our second round picks on the defense. A big DT and then shore up the secondary (unless Zach retires).

Funny how the only ones screaming we shouldn't take Dorsey are the ones trying to find anyway to bring McFadden here whose no where in the class that AP is.

Seriously give it up. There's 0 chance of McFadden being the #1 pick in the 2008 draft unless someone trades up to Miami for him. ZERO FOLKS. Your just setting yourself up for disappointment.

It's going to be discussed, oh about everyday on this board. I will say this though, every RB, who wore a Phins uni this season has a question mark in terms of coming back. The only one pretty much guaranteed a roster spot in '08 is L-Book and it may not be as a RB.

although I don't think you could trade an injured guy, you could draft McFadden and then trade one or the other. Either one, when healthy, should be worth a high first rounder.
