Drops in a month..anyone else excited for this? For those who don't know it's the 3rd installment of a FPS series and the first on a next Gen. I absolutely LOVED AVP2 for my PC. It allows you to take on the role of a Colonial Marine, Alien, or Predator and play through the story. Each has their own strenghts and weaknesses Marines: Armed to the teeth but physically weaker and slower than the others. These guys are good but their best chance of survival is in a team. Aliens: Physically weak but FAST. Their kills take a bit but when used in a group they're absolutely deadly, very fast, and leap long ranges and run on the cieling. Very disorienting but awesome once you get the hang of them. Predator: Seemingly the most BA of the group this character is actually balanced quite well. They're strong, fast, able to jump ridiculously high, but often times are at the mercy of their energy which is required to use their weapons. The characters are balanced pretty well, and you get to use all of the powers as seen in the movies......Aliens run on the cieling and have their special vision, predators have special vision, lock on laser, etc. etc. etc. What REALLY impressed me about the 2nd game (honestly didin't play hte first) was the atmosphere. These movies have BA characters and atmospheres....I found it legitimately creepy to be standing all alone in an alien hive wit noting but flares, a small flash light, and the methodic "bleep" of my radar. I also appreciate that they're mature games....there's swearing and gore galore. They have trophy kills which takes longer (i.e. don't do it when in a skirmish) where aliens can sneak up on an opponent and penetrate their skull with their small mouth thing, and predators collect heads. I'm about as psyched about this game as any others coming out in the first quarter of this year...i hope they do the franchise justice, and it gets some support. I know the movie franchise will turn people off of this....they're just awful but IMO there are NO similarities between the two. AVP2 is one of my all time favorite PC games.
When the '99 version came out for PC, I was pretty much addicted to it. I always chose to play as the Predator. They had a 'gold' edition for it that was pretty cool too. I never have played the sequel to it. I hope the new one is pretty good.
