Well now I guess I have a reason to watch the Pro Bowl next Sunday as Yeremiah Bell will replace Antoine Bethea (Colts) as his team is in the Super Bowl. Saw this on the NFLn ticker. Cool stuff. Congrats YB!

Well Bell is better than Wilson BUT I said it in another thread they ruined the Pro bowl by both moving it back to the states and having it before the super bowl. Both bad decisions if you ask me.

hard to say. nobody ever watched it after the super bowl.

If this is the highest watched pro bowl in recent years then its a very smart business move.

True enough. Question though. With the amount of actual Pro bowlers that have already dropped out and the fact that no one from the leagues two best teams (saints, and Colts) will play, can we seriously still call it a Pro Bowl?

    The question still stands.
if all your best don't play is it a true all-star game?
    weak.

Wow! Does the rest of the AFC suck that bad? Bell was ok, but not outstanding enough to merit All-Pro status. Good for him though. I like him. Always have.

    What's better:
    - Embarrassment due to hosting the game and not having a player playing in it
    - Embarrassment due to Yeremiah Bell getting burned at the Pro Bowl

I'll be optimistic and predict he'll be the MVP of the game(when it means absolutely nothing).

I think it can't be any worse than it was. Nobody cared or even showed up. At least now it will make the run up to the SB even bigger b/c there will be more star players surrounding the event.

Awesome. Thought Randy Starks may get in with Freeney and Mathis both not playing in the Pro Bowl.

Imagine if the Colts had Randy Starks. What a beast he'd be in the pass rush next to Freeney.

I dont know why you guys are so hard on Bell, its not like the guy playing next to him was any good. Bell played well, not Pro-Bowl level, but still pretty good.

I'm wondering if this just further reinforces the theory that they try to market Bell as a trade, with his newly found Pro Bowl status, and bump Wilson back into the SS role and do something else for FS.

If Wilson can play SS, it might be worth the extra pick(s) for Bell

It hasn't really been an all-star game for quite some time. Even before, players would pull out of playing for some "injury". To me, the Pro Bowl is really a joke. You'll never get the best players playing, and with the players not playing, different rules (you can't even blitz!), etc., you'll never get a real game out of it. And that's regardless of whether it's played in Hawaii, Miami, or some stadium, or before or after the Super Bowl.

The sad thing, is that the 'Pro Bowl' doesn't garner the respect from the players as it should. Moving the game to the week before the SB just cemented that disdain the players have for the game. Then to see guys like David Garrard and Y. Bell get in after pedestrian years....it's pretty sad...

Pro Bowl as even become a bigger joke.
David Garrard is now the 3rd AFC QB. He was at least the 7th choice in the AFC for the ProBowl.
    Thats disgusting.

until they put money or bonuses on it I don't see players wanting to risk injury. Football is one of those sports you can't 'play down.' Basketball, hockey, and baseball you can take it easy and protect yourself and have a good time IMO (for all star games that it)

Yeah, and I don't really see that happening, at least any more than what they already do. Many player's contracts have stipulations for bonuses should they make the Pro Bowl -- make, not play in. The NFL also has put in bonuses for the players, with the higher bonus going to the winning team (I think it's like $50K for the winners, $25K for the losers or around there). Not sure what else they can do really.

And you're right. You can't just "take it easy" playing the game. Doing that might just cause more risk for injury than not.

Honestly, if you look at the numbers compared to last year. I think he deserves it more this year...he did have 3 ints this year along with 100+ tackles.

Well the NFC TE's are guaranteed a big game now. Sorry but Bell didn't play well at all this year, he should be nowhere near the Pro Bowl team.

Bell was the 3rd alternate. The top S's were Buffalo's Byrd and Polomalu, Troy pulled out and was replaced by Bethea, Byrd was replace by Merriweather, and now Bethea is replaced by Bell... It may say hes a Pro Bowler but I will not be using that distinction when I talk about him
