1st Annual Take Care of Our ThePhins.com Family Drive
45 replies
To our ThePhins Family,
We want all of our ThePhins.com members to have toys for their children and food for their Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas celebrations. This is a time of great need and we want to join you to help our members who may not have adequate money to buy food or to give a present to their children for holidays.
To make that possible, we are starting the First Annual Take Care of Our Family Drive. "ThePhins.com will match the first $500 in donations" Donations can be made via Paypal without your name, and can indeed be mailed in if you like.
Those Brothers and Sisters that are in a tough situation this year, will need to sit down with their other significant one, and figure out what they really need for this Holiday Season. Then, once they have done that, the family member will need to PM me with what they are in need of, and the number of children in the family as well. This will be kept confidential (site admins only). Please be considerate of what you need, and what others may need as well. We will make a priority of food on the table first, then a present for the children.
If you can spare a few dollars to help a member in need of food for the holidays or gifts for a member's children, please either mail or donate via the Contribute link.
If you are a member in need of food for the holidays or gifts for your children, PM me and let me know what you need and what you think it will cost to make your family's holidays enjoyable.
If we receive a lot of donations we will be able to do more. If we don't receive an ample amount of donations we will make a priority list and go from there. We will post what we collected, and sent out after Christmas. The donations will be sent out in the form of a gift card only. This is the goal of ThePhins Family to ensure each family member has the very best Holiday Season that they can possibly have. If you have any questions at all, please contact John (Fin Fan In Cali) via PM.
Make checks out to the following:

No amount is too small, and all donations are greatly appreciated.
We thank you for your kindness.

Rest in peace bigbry and dolphin debby!

Nope, Steve. This thread is stickied in each forum and you posted in the Other NFL thread. Your post is here.
Also want to say that you guys (mods, admins and everyone else donating) are great people and I love how you all look out for each other. Its a great loving and caring family here and as Brandon said in the CL, it all starts from the management. You guys have done a great job here and this just gets better for some families. I wish I could help but I can't so I just want to wish everyone safe and joyful holidays. I hope you enjoy the time with your families and friends.

I'll also say I wish everyone the best holidays. If you can't afford turkeys or food I know it might be embarassing but check to see if you qualify for food stamps as well. Go to a kitchen if you have to.
It will only be embarassing to you if you take it with current society in mind. In todays world it's simply not enough to have a studio apartment if you're one person you have to have a house. Oh and by the way you can't just have a car it has to be a "current" model and has to be environment friendly.
Remember at our most basic we are based on survival. All that is enough is food, water and shelter. How you get it matters not. Cheers and keep your heads up. I know I am.

Brother this is our goal to take care of our family here. We want to make sure we can get food on the table, and ensure every child of our family has a present to open for Christmas. We have wonderful Brothers and Sisters here, and we love, appreciate, and are very proud of each and every one of you all. Any pm to myself will be kept confidential with our Admins, and you have my word on that.:wink2:

If we need it here you can bet your butt I'm pming you. Right now we look OK :)
I was just stating that because that's really how I feel. While I'm sure the extra attention this site would give person X there are also other ways to get it and one need not feel embarassed to get funding that the government has set up for these kinds of things. At one time I went and applied for (medicaid? medicare? I get them mixed up) anyway, I was told I make too much. It was seriously only by 3 dollars or something ridiculous like that.
The point is if you don't at least try to do it when you know you need it and the option is available you're not making the best use of your resources. The best anyone can do is put a step forward and try.

One other thing.
Christmas isnt the only holiday around the time.
Hannukah happens around the same time, and I believe Ramadahn and others as well.
And dont bring on the stereotype that all jews are rich, because you have no idea.
Just a thought that you might want to add that

Hannukah is mentioned and Ramadahn ended just over a month ago. :)

Sorry bro no offense was meant by that. No stereotype was even thought of. We will be recognizing all those as mentioned in the first post.:wink2:

How can anyone find a way to make this a biased effort is beyond me... The money being raised is for ALL members of this family that need it!!! There are no requirements to meet other than you are in need... This is regardless of your ethnic background, current job status or your religion...
Jeez! IF you need assistance PM FFIC... IF not, don't degrade the effort of the site and give a little!
Grrrrrrr!

I as well wish everyone the best of Holidays.
I had a friend a few years ago who tried to see if she could qualify for food stamps and they told her since she was making 12k a year she made too much money, her rent was 950$.So you have to be dirt poor to get food stamps.
And what you said about are current society................I don't know any single friend of mine that owns their own house.I have friends that are couples and have a house, but a'lot of them couples have had to sell their house in the pass year.......They were not poor ether, they were making from 60k to 130k a year.
And as far as cars go..............the only current model car i've ever been in was a rental.
Where do you live? .....and how do i get to your America?
It really touch me that this site is doing this.I've been going to FH and now here, for the better part of a decade.I always thought the cream of the crop came here from FH and this just proves it tenfold.
I don't own a home or have a new car but i have had just about every toy i've ever wanted, as a kid and now, and i will do what i can to help others here have the same.
On the other hand, i also know what it's like to be a young boy from Miami hialeah and get penny rolls as a christmas present. So i 'll do all i can to help.
:hammertime:

And what you said about are current society.........
Where do you live? .....and how do i get to your America?
this is not "my" america. this is how I view it. and "this" america is not somewhere you want to be IMO. please let me explain. i'm just saying people in general tend to spend beyond their means and live up to societies expectations not their own. for example. someone sets a trend 40,000 people seem to follow it. someone came out with an "iSomething". How many of those do you see? it's not so much "owning" a house as it is "having" a house. besides if you look at it like I do (which you probably don't and that's cool) even when you pay the house off you don't "own" it anyway. we own nothing on this earth. everything owns us. we truly are a product of our material possesions.. unless we've trained ourselves to think otherwise. once we die that house then belongs to someone else - be it a bank or another person. it's no longer yours and it never was in the first place. you simply just lived there for a period of time and made it a home with the love and things inside it. what I mean by "you don't want to be in this america" has nothing to do with the country we live in, the government running it (I banned myself from the POFO) or a lack of patriotism on my part. It's really a generalization of the things I see going around me and that I hear going on with others. I realize that can and probably will bite me in the butt though that's my explination. reading the first bit of "walden" i gathered the impression that he thought they had too much back then.. and that was in the 1800s. He's probably spinning in his grave right now.
anyway, that's not what this thread is about. this thread is about helping people who don't have the means to put food on the table or to buy a gift for their loved ones. we can discuss this further via PM if you would like :).
FFIC and others: I really wish I could contribute to help this year. We're not sinking but we're not exactly floating, either.
