Here it is Braves faithful. Here is the thread in honor of the Braves 2008 march back to the NL East pennant. I thought Lucky was going to start this but I got tired of waiting.
lol well i did title it atlanta braves: lets get back our division so probaly. Him or nj, or finswin.......etc.....etc
I love Big Tex so I'll be watching whenever they are on TBS. Hope he has a good year for you being he will be the starting first baseman in the New Yankee Stadium next year.
Mike Hampton looked good today, and I think Javy will make the team over Mclwhomever. Losing Andruw though, that is a big hole to fill.
Javy didn't make the team. I read in the paper today that he's retiring b/c they wanted to send him down to the minors for a while to get more work.
that .225 batting average wont be hard to fill but that Adam Jones kid will be good when he gets his shot.
It won't, that guy looked lost at the plate last season. But he was such a great outfielder. Not sure what happened to his bat.
A Jones still did hit for a bit of power, and he was a tremendous CF, even if he put on about 30 pds.....
Hey guys, Just found this, didn't know there were any Braves fans on here. For those close we should meet at a game for some beers. I usually go to about 10-15 games a year. I am about 20 minutes from the Ted. I think we'll notice this year just how good Andruw was in center field. Although he average went downhill, it was amazing to watch him cover from LCF to RCF live. I don't know about Kotsay, I think he is keeping CF warm from Brandon Jones. What do you guys think about Glavine this year? or Hampton? Do you think either have anything left? BTW unluckyluciano, I love your signature. I have always been a huge fan of Jackie Robinson, he has always been a hero of sorts to me. I have a lot of books and memoribila from him. Nice to see his still remembered by others. (I posted this on another thread, but did't think you would see it)
I live in Augusta, I try to catch a handful of games every season. Saying his average went downhill is an understatement. He looked like he should be hitting in Richmond for a while there. He was lost at the plate.
Yeah, it is pretty bad when you are sitting in the stadium and he is at at bat and down in the count and you (along with everyone else in the stadium) know its going to be a curve outside in the dirt or a low and out slider and swings and misses everytime. He did get pretty horrible last year, but he damm sure was fun to watch play CF live. Man could he run down balls in the gaps like no other. TV didn't do him much justice on that front. I still can't believe he showed up to Dodgers camp at 240 lbs... WTF, nice impression on your new teamates and mgr. Its even funnier that he told Torre that he would play himself into shape....
According to the uniwatch site, the Braves will likely be wearing a dark blue jersey for the opener on ESPN Sunday night.
Thanks bro. He is the only dodger I'd ever cheer for. And he is a hero of mine, glad to see others feel the same way. Glad to have you on bro.
I guess they replaced the red "Sunday" jerseys with dark blue? Probably similar to the spring training or BP jersey.
Not me, i rarely delete stuff. I did think about moving this to the "Bad Topics" section we mods have for awful things like the Braves I still have you guys pegged for 2nd in the NL east and the WC. A lot depends on the pitching. hampton is bound to get hurt, James already has a partial tear of the rotator cuff and eventually will need the same surgery Pedro had. And Glavine is washed up from where I stand. I happen to really like Jair Jurrgens though and think he could be a good #3/ok#2 in a year or two. Liked that deal a lot for you guys.
Not necessarily. The new dark blue is apparently to be worn only at road games. The sunday red apparently will still be used at home. Also the probable look reminds me of when my nephew played little league, for a team called Braves, and they did wear dark blue tops and grey pants.
Apparently a lot of the "experts" on ESPN agree with you cool calm Mike. I think they have a shot especially if Hampton is healthy and good...
The team who's pitching holds up the best obviously is going to win IMO. It should be pretty wide open. From reading news articles, the Mets and Phillies players seem to think they only have to worry about each other. I think they're going to be in for a surprise.
Chipper hit a nice rope out to center for our first run of the year. Even if our pitching stays healthy I'm not sure we go anywhere if Mr Jones isn't on the field for 130+ games. Peter Gammons was talking him up in the middle of the 5th. Talking about how he is a sure-fire HOFer because by the end of the year he should be top 8 in BA, HR, RBIs, and Runs for 3rd basemen all time.
If he hits .330 25 HRs, and 100 RBIs again he should at least be considered for MVP. I'd expect him, Teixeria, David Wright, and Jimmy Rollins to all be in the hunt for it.
extra innings first game of the year not a good sign . Not bad play though for being in their house, would love to steal one here.
Tex almost had a HR to tie it in the 9th. Chipper must have really hit his HR hard because Tex put a charge into his and it missed at a shallower part of the park than Chipper's. Hudson pitched a very solid 7 innings. If it wasn't for his bad throw to 1st he could have had a really good outing.
Moylan. We had him last year. I don't remember him doing a whole lot. He has pitched well tonight though.
Yeah right now he is doing good, keeping it down, even got a K. Just wonder his career life with him throwing side arm.....
