I felt you guys might be interested in keeping tabs on this rumor: According to Yahoo's Steve Henson, negotiations between the Braves and Diamondbacks for first baseman Mark Teixeira are "pretty far along." Henson talked to a front office source from another team interested in Tex. The Braves reportedly want a prospect plus Chad Tracy or Conor Jackson. ESPN's Keith Law wrote earlier today that the Braves have at least four suitors for Teixeira. - MLBTradeRumors.com Not sure how much stock I put in this site but figured its worth discussing since it seems possible and would impact the NL race both in the east and playoff match ups. Jackson is a nice player long term for a team looking to reload. Tracy can play a few positions and Im guessing the Braves would try and move him again before the deadline for another prospect or two as he could help a team like philly's 3b situation or NYM's OF situation though he wouldn't be my first choice. Personally, I want the mets to pursue the aforementioned Sheets more then Tex. Tex is a very inconsistent hitter while Delgado has actually offered comparable production. Sheets could take Pedro's rotation spot, and then they will either resign Ollie Perez or give one of the kids a shot.
Hudson has ligament damage and is most likely out for the season. Sad. I really thought we had the best overall team (in the division) heading into the season.
Jul 28 Mark Bowman, of Braves.MLB.com, reports Pittsburgh Pirates ownership turned down a proposed deal that would have sent OF Jason Bay to the Atlanta Braves for four minor league players
I was looking at our team rankings. Kind of sad the place we are in our division compared to our rankings..........
Hard to believe the injuries could have gotten worse. But incredibly they have. I guess we should ship out Tex and just get what we can. Everything I'm hearing suggests Tex will be gone soon.
I'll be shocked if hes not gone by the end of the week. Id rather see us get back to the Braves of old anyway, pitching a defense with small ball on the offensive side.
Yeah nothing has really worked out since we went away from that a bit. Like you guys mentioned earlier, I wouldn't mind going after Ben Sheets.
I'll be an Angels fan when they play Boston or New York. Torii is my boy, but Bobby and the Bravos will always be my team. If I havent given up on the Phins after 1-15 theres no F'ing way Im giving up on the Braves
LOL I was gonna bump this thread but didnt wanna jinx it. Campillo is to the Brewers as Sheets is to us. He'd be 3-0 this season against the Brew Crew this year if we can hold on.
How about striking out Kendall and Weeks to get out of a jam. I wonder if Campillo has pitched himself into a nice little contract for next season. It'd be nice to keep him next year as a 4th or 5th starter.
I caught the bottom of the 7th. Really good job of working out of that jam. I'd love to keep him around next year.
I think he deserves to stay next year. Outside of him and Jurjjens it's really a mystery what the rotation will even be next season. Hampton's contract is mercifully almost at an end.
With Hudson going under the knife I think you can bet the farm the Braves make a run at Sabathia or Sheets. My guess is that CC will get a bigger contract because he is younger, meaning we'll probably go after Sheets. The good thing is because of Glavine (8M) and Hampton (15872424348M) coming off the books we can afford to reload and make a run next season.
they said during the game that if the Braves didn't re-sign any of their free agents after this season , they would free up $60 million dollars. wow. and was it just me, or during that Smoltz conversation from the dugout, he made it sound like he wanted to pitch next season, but wasn't sure if it would be in Atlanta?
also, heard on the late news a little while ago that Skip Carey passed away today at his home. May he Rest In Peace.
Yeah I heard about Skip Carey. He is what I grew up on. He was the voice of Braves baseball to me. Sorry to hear him go. Thoughts go out to his family and friends.
Hearing the news about Skip was a total shock. I'll never forget watching Braves baseball on TBS with my dad as a young child, listening to him broadcast the games in his vibrant and witty style. He's had so many memorable calls. "From worst... to First!" will forever be burned in my baseball subconscious. You will be missed Mr. Caray.
I just read the news about Skip. He'll be missed. It will be strange now, my entire life the guy has called almost every Braves game I've ever watched. R.I.P.
Skip's call of Sid Bream scoring from second on a single by Francisco Cabrera to left field against Pittsburgh to win the pennant in the bottom of the ninth (Braves Win! Braves Win! Braves Win!!) was my favorite! still gives me chills. and i think it is still available as an ATT ring tone.
He's had so many great ones. A couple years ago TBS did the "Greatest moments in Braves History". Otis Nixon's leaping grab followed by Skip's call of "He caught it! He caught the ball" also gives me chills to this day. If anyone can find a clip of some of those classic calls I would GREATLY appreciate it. I looked for a bit earlier but had no luck.
The Braves site has the Francisco Cabrera/Sid Bream call and the last out of the 95 World Series call. I can't link them directly, here is the page they're on. Get ready for goosebumps... http://atlanta.braves.mlb.com/news/...t_id=3251121&vkey=news_atl&fext=.jsp&c_id=atl
*Wipes Eyes* Mike Hampton got a WIN last night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By my calculations, that means that he's made about $40 Million since his last win.
I saw that too. Explains all the hurricanes though........ I can hear skip now " mr glass wins mr glass wins!!"
Amazing. Its depressing to look at the lineup right now. They showed a stat last night that was telling. With Chipper in the lineup we're a game over .500. Without him we were like 6-17. If we were playing .500 ball we could still be in the East.
If Hell did freeze over they must have pushed the heat here. Good God it's hot. Anyway, I'd love to see the Braves pull off two in a row. But since they're practically fielding a team that should be in Richmond [with some exceptions] I won't hold my breath.
Nice win last night. Blaine Boyer sucks, but Charlie Morton looks promising. Another positive, Gregor Blanco. Since the All-Star break he's hitting .296 with an OBP of .425. He's also solid defensively making only 1 Error in 97 games, plus he covers alot of ground. I think Gregor has made Kotsay expendable this off-season as well as Matt Diaz if the Braves decide to get an OF this winter.
I love Blanco's approach to the plate. He takes a lot of pitches and just wants to get on base. He should definitely have a spot in the lineup next year. And Morton seems to have good stuff. He looks pretty good when he puts it all together.
The Braves have won two in a row and three of four. Chipper had a good return. I think Jurjjens is up next so here's to getting back to .500
I caught the 9th. It was shocking to see us get a one run win on the road. Gonzalez looked good. Made Reyes look bad. Hopefully he and the rest of the pitching staff is ready for next year.
