Its sad that we need 8 pitchers to get through 9 innings. Its back to the days of Willie and wearing out a path to the mound.

I agree on Paarnell and Maine. The only guys we have in the pen that can really dial it up to 96-98 are Parnell and Stokes, may as well use that to your advantage. Stokes looks like he is falling back to earth so you may as well try parnell.

Hey Greg....as the Phillies GM I keep offering you JC Romero for Beltran and Schneider, but you won't budge. You need a setup man and a closer. We have a couple relievers we could deal you but you gotta give us something in return. Happ looked sick last night....no more Kendrick, thank God. Blanton is about the only guy we cannot count on. Ten more games for us, and I think 11 for you guys? Good luck. :tongue2:

The Marlins are about 5 games back,.....too little, too late.

When the Marlins realize they have no shot they will fold just as fast as the Brewers, Cardinals and Astros did.

The Mets still have four with the Cubbies, and Pinella showed me he is not going to tank it even though the Cubs have all but clinched it. :tongue2:

NEW YORK (AP)—The New York Mets won a coin flip with the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday and would host a tiebreaker for the NL wild card on Sept. 29 if the teams finish with identical records and a game is needed to decide a postseason berth.

Major League Baseball conducted previous flips on Sept. 12. Philadelphia would host the Brewers in the event those teams have the same record and a tiebreaker game is needed.

The Chicago White Sox would host the Minnesota Twins if they finish with the same record in the AL Central title and a tiebreaker is needed.

If all 3 teams have identical records, don't the Mets automatically win the division and Philly and Milwaukee would have to play for the wild card based on the season series between phils and mets? Heard this on WFAN this morning....

Yes. The mets have the head to head vs philly so that would stand to reason. :ffic:

You have to think the Brewers are done. Its a three team race between the Mets, Phils and yes, the Marlins. If they sweep the Phils they are right in it.

Dan Murphy should be playing everyday; doesnt matter whether we are facing a lefty, right or someone pitching underhand. Hes been great.

With more pop I think. The kid knows what to do, when he is playing he works the count, yesterday he did pitch hitting 101, look at the first pitch and drive it.

This kid is a hitter, and just think, the mets have no prospects. (Niese, Evans, Murphy)

Thanks for the kind Marlin words there. Our schedule really puts our destiny mostly in our own hands. Should be fun to watch the rest of these games!

John Maine tossed 24 pitches against five Mets batters this afternoon at Turner Field. His velocity and control weren't what he'd like, but Maine said if he wakes up tomorrow feeling healthy, he'd be ready to be activated Monday against the Cubs.

"I think it's all right," Maine said. "No pain."

Maine still felt the tightness, or knot, at the back of his back shoulder.

Surfing The Mets - NY Daily News

This will be a nice lift for the pen even if its for an inning here and there. id feel better with Maine then anyone else in this crap bullpen of ours.

There is no one in baseball right now that I can't stand more than Mike Gonzalez.

Where do the Braves find these closers? This guy's an F'in clown!

I think Keith said when Delgado was batting: "I'd like to hit a line drive off his forehead." (speaking of Gonzalez)

And once again Johan pitches the big game. 125 pitches last night, that was the mo st he has every pitched in his career. But we needed it. Milwaukee unfortuenately hit a walkoff homer, but the phils lost, so good night overall. Today should be tough, Zambrano vs Perez, then the brews got sabathia pitching, and phils have myers vs jojo reyes. We have to win tonight b/c I think the other 2 will win...

Need a big start tonight from Ollie. 7IP-2ER-8K-1BB looks about right.

Also Omar got a 4 year extension....which I'm pretty happy about.

I think hes been nothing short of brilliant in fact. we were horrid before he got here and in 4 years we're already getting benefits from the farm system which is spitting up young talent in a way it hasnt in years. For once we're getting more then 1 player every 2 years. We're getting Pelfrey, Niese, Murphy, Evans, Parnell, Kunz, etc who have significant talent and with more like Flores and Fernando on the way. Those kids saved this season and hes retooled that whole farm by reinvesting in scouting and the IFA market.

Minaya showed a willingness to make an immediate splash and bring the Mets back to prominence and though he finally got what other GM's have had to haggle with the Wilpons over, full autonomy and an open wallet policy, he still had to coax Pedro and Beltran to sign on that dotted line. Like the signings or not, bad contract or not, those signings made the Mets relevant again. Ill take the headache of a pennant race and an incompetent bullpen over the 65 and 70 win teams we were trotting out there a few years ago.

I cant sit here and say hes perfect, no one is but hes done damn well. People forget how he stole John Maine for crap. Stole Green and Duque at the deadline in 06 when they were needed. He acquired Beltran Petey and wagner for nothing but money which is still a lot better then the crap we had before. Stole Johan. Stole Ollie. Stole Sanchez for Seo, a trade many of you hated at the time but were loving in 06. Its quite a nice resume for a short time frame.

You can point out the mess ups like Castillo, Schoenweis, Mota, placing too much faith in Sanchez's recovery, placing faith in Heilman not being a late inning disaster he has always been giving up homers....these are mistakes other fanbases would love to have to deal with if thats the worst thing you can say about their GM.

Truth is, we finally have a GM who knows how to make use of the wilpons significant funds, who took full control from day 1, and understands how to develop and use a farm system. I cant give Omar an A for his time here because we havent won a WS but we've been in contention in september every year hes been here. Coming off a 68 win season the year before he arrived with Wright and Reyes the only foreseeable hopes for the future, I think thats better then any of us could have hoped for at the time. So id probably give him a B for his overall grade. I would expect that by the time his next contract ends we will hang at least 1 more championship banner in citifield.

worst bullpen ever. 3 run 10th for chicago. Brilliant idea to give a dead fastball hitter like Aramis Ramirez an 0-2 fastball.

I haven't had the opportunity to watch many Met games this year, but has the situational hitting been that bad all year long?

Wright striking out in the 9th on ball 4 with a runner on third and no outs is inexcusable, especially for an MVP candidate.

Yes, the situational hitting this year has been their biggest disappointment next to the bullpen.

Just awful. David Wright striking out after being ahead 3-0 just baffles me. I don't see them coming back from this one.

    Carbon Copy of last year.

Yes. This is one of the worst situational hitting contenders in a long time. Theyre towards the bottom of the league with risp, have been the last two years. they score a ton of runs but theyre very dependent on big innings and home runs. They are not a team that scratches out runs the conventional way. Its either with the long ball or big innings.

the bigger thing is 6 runs should be enough to win a ballgame if youre a good team. I would say that part of their struggles stem from the fact that the pressure is consistently on the offense because the pen and the 3/4/5 starters (ollie, pedro and niese) cant hold leads all the time. Ollies been better lately but last nigh he was a culprit as well. That situation should have never even been an issue when you had a 5-1 lead.

only the mets can fall behind 2-0, 3-1, 6-3, and enter the 9th tied. great game tonight. Cancel and Ramon Martinez with some unexpected contributions.

Now keep it tied Feliciano. Give us a freakin chance in the bottom of the 9th.
