I was not on this forum back then, but wanted to share a few memories to see how they compared with the ones who were here. As most would like to forget, we were coming off a "lucky" one win season, and were the joke of the NFL. Enter Tuna & Company, a move I really liked. I recall former Packer GM Ron Wolfe, who was very well respected, evaluating the team. After watching them, he said it would take at least 3 years to be "competitive." It was not what I wanted to hear but, many others agreed with him, it was a fair assessment. I would have to say that we, after 3 years, are now competitive, at worst. Tuns said that we need to identify and develop young talent, which I believe was done. Just look at the roster. He also said that we had no players entering into or being in their prime. Horrible drafts were the reason, and could not argue the point. The only remaining starters from "way back when" are Bell, Carey, and now Soliai. That's a hell of a turnover. Add in the coaching changes, as well as Tuna and his plan leaving. There has been little stability, which makes or breaks NFL teams. We have completed those 3 years of rebuilding, and now I am looking forward to being more than competitive. It is unfortunate that some Phans thought it was a "just add water type" of rebuilding from nothing, making our team completely over but, it was what it was. I can't wait to see our team play this year. Anyone recall their thoughts from 3 years ago?
Most of those players are still here which is good for chemistry purposes. I think they the fact this team "grew" with each other over the past 3 years says a lot.
