Yeah? And exactly what message is that? That the USA can't take a little trash talk and retaliates just to have one of it's top3 players sit a game? Sorry, a little bit of jarring does NOT warrent going flagrant on somebody.
Another race for Usain, ANOTHER WORLD RECORD SHATTERED. (I love Michael Johnson, though, man. LEGEND.)
Yeah. That's you. I'm me. I believe in the old school technique. The Pat Riley, "send a message" game. Won't argue with you over this, though. Not really worth our time. I probably should have said "hard foul" rather than flagrant, though. Definitely zero intentions of injury.
Searched all of google for an opportunity to watch it live. Had to find out the hard way of my brother calling me from Jamaica. I should have known that ThePhins.com is the place to find information for everything.
Its all good. We retaliated the best way we could. A 30 point loss by a team that were a possible contender For the record, that idiot from Australia looked like what he is when jarring. A bench player that has no respect for the game or the opportunity presented him. To play in the Olympics. D-Wade showed exactly what he is when not retaliating. An absolute class act that is showing the world that nobody belongs on the court with the Redeem Team
damm, I was in a meeting and missed it. BBC's website won't let me see the video. Anyone know where I can see a replay?
Martina got disqualified along with Spearmon in the 200m? Wow. I thought it was only Spearmon. Sucks for those guys, although nice to see a South Florida native earn another Bronze.
I have a serious issue with the media's "showboating" talk. I mean, I don't see Bolt's celebrations any different than a football player who high steps his way into the endzone, or when Brett Favre pounds his chest and goes nuts for every TD pass (hell, you can even take it back to Michael Johnson). Nothing wrong with any of that. Nothing wrong with the way Bolt celebrates. I just had to get that out there.. I think the talk is buffoonery, and it's sour as hell. It's not like he's pulling a sharpie out of God knows where and signing his name on the track field.
best celebration is when that guy took his shoes off and someone ran out with a fire extinguisher!!!!!
I'd probably agree but I think sportsmanship is a bigger deal in the Olympics than in "normal" sports. So it isnt the best comparison to say one thing is accepted in an NFL game, so it should be accepted here too. I didnt see all of the Bolt celebration, but I had no problem with what I saw.
I didnt have a problem either. But you're right, the Olympics are supposed to be held to a higher standard of sportsmanship. But hell, we Americans invented the cocky victory celebration so we really have no room to talk.
I agree with the above posts. I was interested in gathering a ton of unbiased opinions, because I've been puzzled by the "showboat" talk. I've seen comments stretch out as far as, "I won't congratulate the guy because he doesn't honor the Olympic games in a respectable manner" I think it's a "put yourself in his shoes" type of thing. I mean, what would you do if you just shattered two records that has been held for over a decade?
Yeah, that really blew. I've been reading about her preparation for the event and how bad she wanted the gold medal, and she really ran a flawless race up until that last bump on the hurdle. Disappointed to see such hard work from seemingly a very nice young lady amount to, well, I don't want to say nothing but you get the drift. A beginner's mistake crushed her after a champion's start. I felt bad for Aaron Ross' lady in 400 meter sprint (I think it was) as well. She simply ran out of gas.
She was beaten by a better athlete. Michael Johnson is the BBC's athletics analyst and a very, very fine one he has been since he retired. He called it perfectly; Sanya Richards blew her race in the first 250m. Christine Ohorugu is much the better athlete and much stronger. Just as she did in Osaka in the World Championships, she ran a controlled race and won in the last 20 strides.
The "celebration" stuff about Bolts is such nonsense. It's by the same people crying about how the Americans were hard done by in the womens gymnastics over some pretty circumstantial evidence and how voting is rigged by the Chinese, even though none of the judges are Chinese. It's hypocritical. Sprinting has moved on. Bolt is a showman. He's not cocky or arrogant. He's having fun. It's not a show of bravado, it's a show from an entertainer and it's naive of those complaining who clearly have no understanding of Jamaican culture. The bottom of bottom lines is that Usain Bolt is the fastest human being on earth. He broke the 100m world record in an event he doesn't like and wasn't going to compete in. Then he broke arguably the greatest world record of them all by arguably the greatest athlete of them all. I watched Michael Johnson's 19.32 live. I watched Carl Lewis win the 100m and the 200m and then lose the long jump to Mike Powell in an amazing contest. Just as Lewis set the standard for the 80's, Johnson did so with the 90's - gold shoes and a big old hoop earing. Usain is doing it for the noughties. It's no different. Those being negative ought to shut their yap and concentrate on what a brilliant Olympics this has been. Ridiculous.
Bolt cements greatness, sets world record in 200 with 19.30 http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...m_layden/08/20/bolt.record/index.html?eref=T1
Maurice Wignall is supposedly a cousin of a cousin of a cousin of a cousin of my mother. So yeah, w00t for my 80th cousin qualifying for Jamaica in the Finals of the 110 meter hurdle. News to me. Never met the guy in my life and I go to Jamaica at least once per year..... http://www.nbcolympics.com/athletes/athlete=54004/bio/index.html
For the love of God and track, Bolt had better come off clean. This is a fantastic opportunity for the sport to put some of the bad feelings from the past scandals behind and move forward under the banner of Bolt and some of these other young phenoms. As for the Chinese gymnasts, its just embarrassing really. Who needs documents, just look at them! Any actual "proof" is just further embarrassment really, its rediculous. Right now im watching the divers, and this one chick (16) actually looks it, stark contrast to the others. For that matter, the one gymnast they claim is what, 20, actually looks 16-18. But then again, if they actually came out with that, then no amount of doctored passports could cover it up. And the judging in general was just absolutely terrible, the new scoring system is horrible and not allowing a tie is just moronic. Just glad Shawn got her gold finally and that Horton got a silver on the high bar, he did so well in the team competition I was really pulling for him in an event/allaround.
Wow. I had the exact same thoughts watching it last night.... Very well said. Glad to see the unbiased responses.
uh, still more than many of us can say. maybe next time youre down there, you should have someone in your family introduce you to him... then have him introduce you to mr. bolt.
Look the Olympics are always great IMO Great Britain was going to have a good showing as they have increased funding to prepare for 2012. The Aussies will slow down China geared up and will do well this and next Olympics Canada will do well in the next Winter because we have funded our atheltes more so we won't be embarassed in Vancouver 2010
Thursday(late Wendsday for the Pacific time zone) has turned into possibly the greatest day in USA women's volleyball history. First Misty May and Kerrie Walsh showed their greatness by overcoming horrible weather, wet sand, and an inspired opponent with a serious home area advantage to win the gold. Then the women's indoor team did an impressive sweep of longtime nemesis Cuba, to qualify to for the finals for only the 2nd time ever
