Does anyone else think Crowder might not be with us after this year? Or at the least, not starting?

I think Channing is gone if doesn't produce. Probably traded before the trade deadline.

I agree. Then the question will be, does he have any value? I think teams would be willing to wait out for him to be cut before they fork over a possible fourth rounder.

IMO we could see Torbor and the other one (Akin Ayedele or whatever) starting in the middle over CC. Porter and maybe JT or Merling on the outsides.

Wouldnt be surprised at all. IMO the best early drafts will have us taking Rey or James. Though Crabtree is exciting I have to admit.

We didn't sign Torbor and trade for Ayodele just to draft another linebacker in the 2009 first round. At least, I hope not.

    Malcolm Jenkins, please.

I agree, I'd rather have Jenkins. I don't see us picking first overall this year so I think Rey will be gone before us.

Neither of them are star stud type players. They are solid performers, but niether of them have the potential that Rey and James will have. Either of these guys could be absolute monsters over the middle for a decade.
We will have to consider a strong CB though you are right. Either Jenkins or the kid from Illinois if he comes out.

Yeah, hes an impressive kid, most early mocks seem to have him coming out but who the hell really knows heh. Hopefully he turns out better than Vernon has so far, that guy needs to turn it up a notch this year.

Sorry, but I don't buy it. Not every position needs to have a mega-star player in order to be effective.

With today's contracts, you don't draft for potential.

Err, ok. Pick your star position then I guess. You seem fixated on a CB, Ill take the LB. Why do we need a star CB so much more than a star LB? CB is actually hugely overrated right now, mostly because everyone thinks you need to load up on them to stop these air assaults. It can help, but its not essential.
LB is a position that has been giving teams impact players from day 1. I dont see any current MLB on our roster right now as being anything other than average at best. Sorry, MLB is a spot that I want a beast absolutely eating people up.

Well lets not draft anyone then and sink 100% of our money into FA!!!

Both Rey and James are NFL caliber players that should come in and be a force from game 1, linebackers do that. They also have the potential to far exceed what any current LB on our team can do. Neither of them are purely a "potential" guy, such as Branden Albert was. Neither are questionable guys who rose via the workout warrior bit. Both are monsters on the field.

It's not about star power, it's about the fact that we've already brought in a truckload of linebackers. At some point you put your money and your resources elsewhere. Drafting a linebacker in the first round in 2009 is a drop in the bucket at the position and a misdirection of resources, both in terms of roster space and in terms of money allocated to each position respectively.

The point is that behind Will Allen, we have NOTHING at corner. Lehan? Cleveland has a secondary arguably worse than ours, and they didn't want Lehan. Daniels? Good rookie year, done nothing since. Goodman? Hasn't proven anything. Babers? He's not even making this team. Add in the fact that this is the last year of Will Allen's contract, and we have a huge gaping hole at the future of the cornerback corps--while our linebackers are all on multi-year deals.
