Sandy Alderson seems to be the front runner for the GM job. Don't know a whole lot about him other than he's a no-nonsense guy with a lot of smarts. I think it would be a great fit.

Sounds like the exact opposite of Omar and Jerry so at least the Mets are headed in the right direction.

Alderson is right there with Jon Daniels as my first choice. Would be fine with either especially since it doesnt look like the Mets will even get a chance to talk to Daniels if they want to have someone in place by late this month...

The team interviewed Allard Baird monday, CWS assistant GM Rick Hahn on Tuesday, Josh Byrnes today and are supposed to interview Logan White and Alderson later this week.

Sandy Alderson wants the Mets job..have to question his sanity wanting to work for the meddling Jeff Wilpon but apparently he's tight with Fred Wilpon: http://twitter.com/buster_espn

Takahashi wants to stay with the Mets but he'd like a multi-year deal. He will be 36 when the season starts. I tend to like him much more as a reliever/spot starter since he definitely had stamina issues. He also gets hit hard the third time through a lineup. He was very good in relief though so if he is willing to stay as a reliever I would have no problem giving him a 2 year deal.

Sandy Alderson has the job according to Jon Heyman and WFAN.

    Good signing for the Mets.

    Now get to work!

    Tony DeFrancesco:
He has been in the A's system for years, good solid coach.

For some reason, I think he goes back to his past to find a coach he has dealt with.

Also, Tony is from Suffern NY.

Paul DePodesta would be a very good hire. Hopefully the owners stay out of the way of the baseball people and let them work.

Not sure about that list, although Hurdle would be intriguing.

I still like my longshot Tony DeFrancesco to be mentioned at sometime.

You don't want Hurdle. He's not a good manager. Don't be blind by the Rockies good Sept/Oct of 2007.

He also mentions Lee Mazzilli and Ken Oberkfell to the list. Not sure I would want Mazzilli, Oberkfell would be intriguing.

We need a fiery guy, unlike what most articles say Sandy will hire.

As long as the instructions say:

    1) Get rid of castillo, just cut him. Dont take back any bad contracts. I know its not like the Mets to do this but sometimes a player is just cancerous.
    2) Get rid of Perez, just cut him. Dont take back any bad contracts.
    3) Kick Carlos Beltran in the knee a few times to make sure hes fully healthy and primed for a big contract year.
    4) Punch Jason Bay in the head a few times to see if he hits better with a concussion since he hit like crap without one.
    5) Keep Lucas Duda on the damn roster. He hit like he was Adam Dunn's clone once he got out of that horrendous 1 for 40 (something like that) start.
    6) Sign Cliff Lee or get a trade for a similar pitcher without moving Ike. Just me speculating but I wonder if Anaheim or NYY might discuss Kazmir or Burnett for Bay? Thats just me speculating but it seems like all three players need a change of scenary.
    7) Unless you sign V-Mart, Josh Thole starts. No one wants to see the other assorted crap we have at catcher.
    8) Build around Wright and Reyes. The best is yet to come.

You want no part of Scott Kazmir. Trust me on this. The guy isn't good at all anymore. Picture him as being the white verison of Oliver Perez only I believe he makes more money. LAA would probably give Kazmir away if you asked.

Met's GM, Sandy Alderson, is doing his news conference as the new Met's GM.

He just said he feels he has "The best job in baseball."

Wait till he sees his players and takes a look at his payroll. :wink2:

What do you expect him to say? That he was handed a poorly constructed team filled with a high payroll that doesn't match the talent he's being given?

I thought Alderson came off very well in the press conference. It's a good hire no doubt.

It could happen but since we wont get any kind of value for him before June when teams have had adequate time to evaluate where he is post injury, I doubt it happens. Plus, we actually kinda need him. We have lacked power for two years now and its not Citifield at this point since we are hitting the same amount of homers on the road as we are home.

If the lineup on opening day is as follows would you be upset?

    Reyes
    Pagan
    Wright
    Beltran
    Davis
    Bay
    Thole
    Tejada

To me health looks like the biggest issue there. Talent exists. What made me happy is that when Alderson was on with Francesa he said he would evaluate both the medical staff and the players. This has been a long time coming.

Perez and Castillo need to be gone, I would like to see maybe a hard nosed go gettum type at 2nd base. Pagan isn't a corner OF, he is best in CF, that's why I think you see Beltran traded to the Red Sox's in spring training when he shows he is healthy.

I would like to see them add Mark Ellis for 2nd base and you can have Tejada fill in.

I would also like to see if they can talk Ty Wigginton into being a jack off all trades player, he has some fire to him.

If the Red Sox fail to sign or trade for a big bat I actually wouldn't be shocked to see them trade for Beltran, with the Mets eating at least half of his salary unless it's a straight up for Matsuzaka (who might actually be a very good pitcher in the NL).

I believe Mark Ellis' option with Oakland is going to be picked up but if not I agree he'd be a nice piece. The Mets don't need a superstar at 2B, just someone who will play good D and will be at least average at the plate.

We let him walk. And the first of what is hopefully many good moves by Alderson. I liked Takahashi as a closer or even 8th inning guy but not at 3 years and 5 M per. Hes a guy who should get 1 + maybe an option at 2.5 to 3M per.

    1998: 17th Rnd, 514th by NYM

Id take him back as a utility guy or part time starter with Ruben Tejada at 2B. He's a nice option in case Tejada never learns to hit more then his weight or until Jordany Valdespin or Reese Havens is ready. Havens is recovering from his 303485th injury already

Agreed on Ricciardi and theyre still trying to pry loose DePodesta for his sabermetric extpertise.

Samuels has been accused of being a part of a football gambling ring and for having bet on baseball. Supposedly he took a $50,000 gift from Franceour and a Lexus from Piazza (which is something manny has done as well)

Eww @ Collins. No thanks. Backman by default.

Before that and a few recent quotes saying hiw good he was at teaching fundamentals I had been lukewarm but Im starting to warm up. I still like Valentine best but Backman seems like a decent option considering that Alderson doesnt like spending big money on managers supposedly.
