It's way too early for Mock drafts and all that good fun because there are too many top players who are undecided Juniors. That list contains names such as Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy, Terrence Cody, Michael Crabtree, Jeremy Maclin, Brandon Spikes, Sen'Derrick Marks, Greg Hardy, etc. IMO Bradford will win the Heisman and come out. Terrence Cody will be a Top 5 pick and the Lions should consider him greatly at #1 overall. With that said the Dolphins will be drafting in the 18-24 overall spot and there are 4 players who I feel bare watching. I would not count out players such as Rey Maualua, Aaron Curry, William Moore, BUT these are the 4 guys who I think it should come down to.

-Sen'Derrick Marks-Defensive Tackle-Auburn
* His first step is devistating and without question reminds me of Jay Ratliff in Dallas. Marks plays with a high motor and would make an immediate impact.

-Clint Stintin-Outside Linebacker- Virginia
*This kid plays with a fire that very few play with. Al Groh has ties witht he Tuna and he is singing the praises of Stintim. Stintim is an upgrae over Roth as soon as he is drafted.

- Peria Jerry-Defensive Tackle-Ole Miss
* This guy could be under the radar but he is one of the best Defensive Tackle's I have seen on tape. He is strong, quick, and plays with power.

-Everette Brown-Defensive End-Florida State
* This is #1 on my wishlist b/c I see Brown as the closest thing to Demarcus Ware in the draft. He has blazing spped for a guy his size and will probably run a 4.6 forty at the combine. He would replace Matt Roth as a starter and ultimatly give the Dolphins a force opposite of Joey Porter.

In Round 2 there are two guys who I feel we should covet.

BJ Raji-Defensive Tackle-Boston College
*Raji spends more time in the opponents backfield than the running back. He is a hole clogger who plays with a mean streak.

Lary English-Defensive End-Northern Illinois
*I know Boomer is high on this kid and there is no reason not to be. If he was there for our second 2nd rounder and we didn't take him I would conteplate being a Lions fan.

Also, Rashard Johnson has to be a possibility with our lack of a Free Safety.

In the later rounds I love Antoine Caldwell (Center -Alabama), Jasper Brinkley-Inside Linebacker-South Carolina) and Dominique Johnson-(Cornerback-Jackson State).

Should Kevin Barnes fall for any reason to Round 3 than he better be a Dolphin

A perfect draft for me would look like...

1. Everette Brown-Defensive End/Outside Linebacker-Flordia State
2A: BJ Raji-Defensive Tackle-Boston College
2B: Kevin Barnes-Cornerback-Maryland
3: Antoine Caldwell-Center-Alabama
4: Pat White-Wide Receiver/Athlete-West Virginia
5: Brandon Gibson-Wide Receiver-Washington State
7A:Andy Kemp-Offensive Guard-Wisconsin
7B:Lydon Murtha-Offensive Tackle-Nebraska
7C:Terrell Skinner-Safety-Maryland

In terms of Free Agency Keep an Eye on...

Marc Colombo-Offensive Tackle
OJ Atogwe-Safety
Bryant McFadden-Cronerback
Chris Canty-Defensive End

These are the guys I see us bringing in. I thi Yeremiah Bell will be resigned and that Matt Roth, Vernon Carey, and Channing Crowder are goners. Samson Satele will not be a starter and might be used for depth.

Quarterback: We are solid here with Pennington and Henne. John Beck is not a terrible insurance policy what so ever.

Running Back: We have Ronnie and Ricky. Patrick Cobbs might be the most underrated player in the league. Ronnie Brown is elite (Sorry Boomer) but he has to get more touches to prove so. Ricky seems to have refound that burst. Polite is a solid Fullback.

Wide Receiver: Sure we need a big, physical player here but Bess, ginn, and Camarillo are all developing into very good players. Bess could wind up being one of the better slot receivers in the league. If Ginn can work on his consistency than he could be a real threat.

Tight End: Fasano is a solid blocker but we need someone who will be more of a force in the passing game. David Martin has played solid thus far.

Offensive Line: Hopefully Smiley is better for next year because him, Jake Long, and Donald Thomas are the only sraters that return to their role. Samson Satele could be moved to Guard or Kept for Depth purposes. Andy Allemen provides solid depth. Al Johnson is someone we just signed with good experience. Sign Colombo and draft Antoine Caldwell in Round 3 and gives us

Jake Long-Justin Smiley-Antoine Caldwell-Donald Thomas-Marc Colombo

Now that is an offensive line.

Defensive Line: We need a young defensive tackle to groom behind Jason Fergeson. Paul Soliai has been a major let-down. Langford and Merling are the real deal and will be very good players. Remember that they are rookies. Vonnie has another season left in him.

Linebackers: Akin Ayodele has been very good while Joey Porter has been outstanding. I don't think we bring back Crowder or Roth.

Secondary: Will Allen is a Top 10 corner. Andre Goodman might get a new contract. Mike Lehan will be back. Jason Allen is very important to our team. We need to lock up Yeremiah Bell. Renaldo Hill is a goner.

Swap out Clint Sintim in the 1st with Brown and I can live with that draft. Sintim already has the experience playing as a 3 - 4 outside backer as compared to Brown who is mainly used as a DE with his hand in the ground.

One really interesting aspect to watch in this upcoming draft depending on which Juniors declare will be the OL position and its depth especially at the OT. Very good crop came out last year which reduces the need of the position for this coming draft. I have a feeling there will be a run on the board of DT and DE in the 1st round which will cause some very good OL to be had in the 2nd all the way to the 3rd possibly 4th round.

Since you mention the off season as a we should note the Chris Gamble received a contract extension. He's now among the top 5 highest paid corners in the league.

I don't see Miami taking an injured cornerback like Kevin Barnes as high as the 2nd round. It just won't happen. Not with this regime. They're too wary of value traps.

Gamble did get paid. Maybe too much, Maybe Not. Despite Andre Goodman playing well we need someone better opposite of Will Allen. Bryant McFadden is the perfect fit. It depends on our cap situations. Adding the likes of McFadden, Atogwe and Colombo would be a hell of an off-season IMO. Combine that with a draft that consist of...

1. Everette Brown-Defensive End/Outside Linebacker-Flordia State
2A: BJ Raji-Defensive Tackle-Boston College
2B: Larry English-Defensive End-Northern Illinois
3: Antoine Caldwell-Center-Alabama
4: Jasper Brinkley-Inside Linebacker-South Carolina
5: Brandon Gibson-Wide Receiver-Washington State
7A:Andy Kemp-Offensive Guard-Wisconsin
7B:Lydon Murtha-Offensive Tackle-Nebraska
7C:Terrell Skinner-Safety-Maryland

and the roster we have is...

QB: Chad Pennington/Chad Henne/ John Beck
RB: Ronnie Brown/Ricky Williams/ Patrick Cobbs
FB: Polite/Kasey Kramer
TE: Anthony Fasano/David Martin/ Joey Haynos
WR: Greg Camarillo/Brandon Gibson
WR: Ted Ginn/ Davone Bess/ Ernest Wilford
LT: Jake Long/ Ikechuku Ndukwe
LG: Justin Smiley/Samson Satele
C: Antoine Caldwell/Al Johnson
RG: Donald Thomas/ Shawn Murphy/Andy Allemen
RT: Marc Colombo/ Lydon Murtha
K: Dan Carpenter
P: Brandon Fields
DE: Vonnie Holliday/Phillip Merling
DE: Kendall Langford/ Quentin Moses
DT: Jason Fergeson/BJ Raji
OLB: Joey Porter/Larry English
OLB:Clint Stintim/Charlie Anderson
ILB: Akin Ayodele
ILB: Jasper Brinkley-Reggie Torbor
CB: Bryant MCFadden/Mike Lehan
CB: Will Allen/Jason Allen/Nate Jones
S: Yeremiah Bell/
S: Oj Atogwe/Terrell skinner

Personally I'd like to stick Otis Wiley into our secondary at free safety. I have no idea why the guy doesn't get more credit.

Goodman and Bell are both 30/31. Bell is an awesome player and "goodie" has made a few plays as well this year but their age makes me think that somewhere along the line we'll be picking up DBs if nothing for an infusion of youth at the position.

For the record I want them to draft OLB/NT/DB/Oline with their top three picks in that order. You guys know who they are better than I do.

"A man's suffering is similar to the behavior of gas. If a certain quantity of gas is pumped into an empty chamber, it will fill the chamber completely and evenly, no matter how big the chamber. Thus, suffering completely fills the human soul and conscious mind, no matter whether the suffering great or little. Therefore, the "size" of human suffering is absolutely relative." - Viktor Frankl

Late round sleeper only to the draftnik world. The scouts know who he is. He just got voted by the coaches in the Big Ten to All-Big Ten First Team. They know who he is.

Not getting the national exposure due to who he plays for? What round do you think he will go in next year??

ckparrotheadckparrotheadmoderator

I guess he's not getting much national exposure. Who knows what round he goes in, what he runs at the Combine will probably be big for that, but I know he's a good 6'2" and 210 pounds and he can play nickel CB, punt returner...so he's got quickness. Maybe round two. Maybe round four.

In Round 4 Wiley is a steal. I have seen him play and the kid is a gamer.

the Draft Debate for me is Stintim vs Everette Brown. I know Stintim has more experience in the 3-4 but Brown's speed and rush ability reminds me of Demarcus Ware. I am a Maryland Alumni and season ticket holder so I go to every game. The speed Everette Brown has is amazing to the edge. Lining up against Kameron Wimbley I can tell you from experience that Wimbley's game speed is nowhere near Brown's. I think both would be great picks but the ceiling for Brown has to be higher. With that said I also had the chance to see Stintim play and I must admit the guy is an intense leader who makes everyone around him better.

Brown is a one way player. It's not even a debate. Sintim was born to play 3-4 OLB. Brown can only go forwards.

And I say this as an FSU fan.

I am the sweat not the swagger.

i origionally wrote this about 6 weeks ago in the Club:

"I'd imagine that these are some of the names we'll be looking at in free agency:

WR: I think we're certainly set with Ginn, Camarillo and Bess. London is thought highly enough of that he started against Seattle, but his route running clearly needs work and Sparano doesn't trust him. I would imagine a selfless looking #1 type might work his way into the mix as well as a draftee of some description:

* Miles Austin and Sam Hurd - Cowboys - Could be the types who would fit very well into the plan that Sparano has for the offense. Austin especially is a valuable special teamer, although both are RFA's. With Crayton, Owens and Williams all earning good coin, they may not be able to agree high round value on one or both of these.

* Lance Moore - Saints - Is a RFA but is typical of the sort of WR this team woud like; no name, hard working, catches everything.

* Amani Toomer - Giants - About 5 weeks ago I floated his name and since then our own wideouts have really stepped it up. But Toomer offers great route running, formidable blocking and solid hands and would be a selfless leader of this group in terms of experience and an ability to find dead holes in the defense.

* Michael Clayton - Tampa - Fascinating name because he offered so much as a rookie. Is a big body, big target who might just flourish with a new start and to his credit, has played much better this season.

OL: Remains a work in progress. Carey has had a down year and his body of work at LT may price him out of our acceptable range. The Samson Satele question bears watching as to whether they truly believe him to be too light or whether his downturn is because of the roundabout that has been RG since Donald Thomas went down:

* Rudy Niswanger - Chiefs - KC are really high on this 305lb center.

* Jason Brown - Ravens - Just a good quality C and back-up G.

* Marc Colombo - Dallas - Ireland and Parcells reclamation project suffering a down year in Texas.

* Stacy Andrews - Bengals - Unlikely to be involved in this race, but if they're intent on letting Carey go, then who knows. Probably the fact that he was franchised a year ago will work against possible suitors.

* Donald Penn - Tampa Bay - Just the sort of FA reclaimation project that the team would plug in at RT.

DE: Rotation, rotation, rotation. Vonnie Holliday isn't getting any younger.

* Igor Olshansky - Chargers - Has flattered to deceive a little, but plays the run very well. I am of the opinion that Miami is very high on LSU's Tyson Jackson as a run defender in the forthcoming draft, so I think run stuffing ends like Olshansky are going to be of a premium.

* Chris Canty - Cowboys - Drafted by Parcells and Ireland. See above.

DT: Jason Ferguson, despite his new contract, can't play forever. Can Paul Soliai be the man? Or will it be someone like Sen'Derrick Marks of Auburn?

* Shaun Cody - Lions - Highly rated coming out; Ed Orgeron called him one of the greatest interior linemen he'd ever coached at USC and he coached Warren Sapp. Has really struggled in Detroit, but at 6'4 and 311lbs, he's ideally the sort of back-up DT we could use.

* Colin Cole - Decent Green Bay back up with considerable size at 6-1 and 330lbs and is having a good season. The Pack also have expiring contracts of Greg Jennings, Aaron Kampman, Nick Collins, Ryan Pickett, Johnny Jolly, Chad Clifton and Jason Spitz to deal with after the 2009 season.

* Ronald Fields - 49ers - Works with Isaac Sopoaga at DT and is an interesting, underrated player in the 313 area.

LB: I think they may look to upgrade outside for a better Matt Roth as well as a long term replacement for Joey Porter. Will 2009 see the Phil Merling experiment begin out there? His paxcking on of weight makes that unlikely. Crowder, IMO, is more likely to be re-signed than Carey, but the middle could do with an injection of some sort. I doubt we'll pursue someone like Terrell Suggs.

* Eric Barton - Jets - steady 3-4 ILB.

* Bart Scott - Ravens - been around the block, but another unsung ILB with ST value.

* Kevin Burnett - Cowboys - Highly thought of by a number of us here, including Mr Clean. Again has flattered to deceive a little but is a good nickel LB and can play ST's very well and of course was drafted by Bill and Jeff.

* Karlos Dansby - Cardinals - A better, more consistent player than Calvin Pace who we tried very hard to sign a year ago. Will want more than Pace financially.

CB: Will Allen has played well in the main and Andre Goodman has shown significant improvement from about week 6. Jason Allen and Mike Lehan remain in the mix.

* Jabari Greer - Buffalo - decent nickel option and special teamer.

* Bryant McFadden - Steelers - I've said it for a long time but he might well be our "Justin Smiley" of 2009 in that we go after him early. Improving all the time and strong against the run. Would be a real nice fit opposite Will Allen.

* Corey Webster - Giants - Started to improve back end of last year, was great in the playoffs and the Superbowl and has been very solid in 2008. Ironically was going to be a Dolphin anyway when Coughlin pulled the trigger just ahead of Saban.

S: All depends on Yeremiah Bell, but I can't see them overhauling BOTH safety spots and you know that FS is going to get a new starter.

* Jim Leonhard - Ravens - I thought this past FA period he'd be a great addition from the Bills and the Ravens picked him up and he's starting. A very strong ST contributor.

* Vincent Fuller - Titans - Everytime I watch Tennessee this kid is making things happen on ST and in dime defences.

* OJ Atogwe - Rams - Had a slow start to the year but is returning to the Pro Bowl type form he showed a year ago. Is just a good player at the FS spot."

I am the sweat not the swagger.

Yeah the signs definitely point strongly toward Sintim at the moment. He's very strong and savvy on the strong side, and can rush the passer, which Matt Roth cannot.

If we teamed Bart Scott up with Channing Crowder and Joey Porter, we would easily have the meanest, most trash-talking, most emotionally out of control group of linebackers in the NFL. You'd have to wonder how many personal fouls they could accumulate together. Heck, I'd be worried Bart Scott would bring a knife to the game and try and cut someone. Channing would look the other way and Joey would bring his boys in to kick the guy on the ground afterwards.

But, in all honesty...team them up with Clint Sintim at LOLB and that doesn't sound so bad. What a group that would be, Sintim, Scott, Crowder and Porter? Talk about attitude. Replace Sintim with Greg Hardy and that would be it. We'll be getting ejections left and right.

I don't know why no one has mentioned Albert Haynesworth. The Titans can't franchise him, his agreement with them last year precluded it if he reached some incentives which are pretty much impossible for him to fail to meet at this point.

Haynesworth pretty much is the prototypical 1-gap DE in this defense, but he's big and powerful enough that he could easily replace Jason Ferguson, and not have it be a waste of his abilities.

I'd agree with this. We look like we've legitimately got three young starting quality WRs. We don't have a for-sure #1 WR at this point, but it isn't outside of the realm of possibility that one of the three turn into it.

If Haynesworth is prototypical anything in this defense, it's playing the nose spot for us the way Kris Jenkins is playing it up in New York. Jenkins has almost single-handedly transformed that defense up there. Haynesworth could do the same, no disrespect to Ferguson.

Regardless he will NOT make it to market. And for some reason I thought he already signed an extension.

Now that would be a dream come true scenario in either case. I still think Hardy is a better pass rusher than Sintim and is more athletic, just don't know how much his past transgressions will affect him in the draft.

I don't know about more athletic (probably) but definitely the better pass rusher. Also far less experienced than Sintim, though.

Bart Scott has me intrigued.

I'd tend to agree that he could do the same kinda thing as NT, but I'd think the team might be just as inclined to have him replace Vonnie Holliday too.

I don't think it's really as crazy as any other big name FA. Crazy **** can happen, and I don't think it would be shocking if Haynesworth would want to test market value.
