This class doesn't look so strong. Next year seems to be loaded though. Spikes returning as well as Trevard Lindley of Kentucky officially.
I dont think you give up on QB entirely. At the least take a shot on someone in the second or third or fourth, toss them in there and see if you get lucky. You just cant rely on next year. What if they somehow pull off a decent year and get stuck picking around 8th. What if some people get hurt, or decide to return to college instead of going in (yeah not all can do the last). That offense is pretty solid with the exception of QB and some OL pieces. I think you work on that.
True. If the Lions don't draft a QB in the 1st round there are a few guys they might draft in the later rounds. Josh Freeman, Rhett Bomar, Graham Harrell, Hunter Cantwell, Mike Teel, Willie Tuitama, and Chase Daniel.
I like that he's going back to school because he can improve his game but I'm going to say that he's returning because he didn't like the grade he got from the advisory committee. His return to school surprised me because of the way his character is and that's one thing that will still be a red flag, whether he came out this year or next year. It also surprised me because he was working with Michael Johnson to prepare for the combine.
I don't know if there will be a goof Offensive Tackle available for the lions at #20. Ciron Black decided to return and with teams such as the Rams, Seahawks, Bengals, Raiders, Jaguars, Redskins, and Packers drafting before them I don't think Andre Smith, Eben Britton, Eugene Monroe, or Michael oher lasts that long. I guess they could go Jamon Meredith at #20 but I see that as reaching like they did with Cherilus this year. I think the smart money is going Michael Oher #1 and at #20 looking at options such as Brandon Pettigrew, Brian Cushing, James Laurinaitis, Peria Jerry, and possibly Michael Johnson
Next years draft seems loaded with Colt McCoy, Sam Bradford, Brandon Spikes, Greg Hardy, Dez Bryant, Jermaine Gresham, Ciron Black, Adam Ultowski, Jerry Hughes, Antoinio Coleman, Vince Oghobaase, Demarcus Granger, Geno Atkins, Jeff Owens, Gerlad McCoy, Ndamukong Suh, George Selvie, Terrence Cody, Sean Weatherspoon, Mark Herzlich, Micah Johnson, Eric Norwood, Sergio Kindle, Myron Rolle, Syd'Quan Thompson, Rafael Priest, Kam Chancellor, Taylor Mays, Eric Berry, Walter Thurmond, Trevard Lindley....etc..
QB will be TIGHT next year unless some people just play horribly. There were already gonne be a few good underclassmen returning, now you add Bradford, McCoy, Tebow etc.
Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy, Zac Robinson, Tony Pike, Colin Kaepernick at QB are the standouts for next season.
CPep is done. Orlovsky was absolutely terrible. Stanton is an unknown though. However, with a new regime coming in, they easily could go with a QB as we did with Beck/Henne.
If Hardy is staying then the original post needs to be edited. If next year's draft will be loaded do we trade away players this year to stock pile more picks for next year?
But sometimes you want to start in a new direction. Often, that involves a new QB, a new face of the franchise. Not to mention 2 teams with Rooks at QB did very well (making the playoffs) and both rooks had solid seasons. Getting that bigtime QB in there now will give them more time to mesh with guys like Johnson and set them up for the future. Just really saying they have several different directions they can take with this pick. At the moment I wouldnt rule out anything.
That's exactly what I thought. Teams get desperate. Less equals more. Finances come into the situation for these young kids and their families as well. If I was Sanchez, I would have done the exact same thing. Compete versus one, or compete versus six or seven? True, you can add to your game like Pete Carroll said, but who says those other players won't add to their game as well? With the teams they currently have, your stuck in that #6 spot basically. Your boy CK doesn't agree with this though.
Despite our needs, I wouldn't mind flipping one of our 2's for a first next year. The 1st round next year looks loaded. I'd love to see us with 2 picks in the 1st, just like NE seemingly had 2 first rounders every year.
I beg to differ. I'd rather package our two 2nd rounders and move then for another 1st. I think coming out of Day 1 with Max Unger and Clint Sintim is a very succesful day.
Boomer any word on your boy Suh? Or did I miss it? I know you thought he was leaning towards school, but anything official?
