Ok, now don't lynch me over this but the one gut feeling I have for next season.
Ted Ginn Jr will not be a Miami Dolphin.
I truly feel that, I just don't have the "Parcell's guy" feeling about him. I think Bess & Camarillo will both surpass him on the field and that would leave us with one overpaid #3 receiver who sometimes returns kicks.
What are your gut feelings for next season?

i don't think we'll give up on a 2nd year receiver. that's kinda a pointless move anyway bc so much of his contract is guaranteed

So much for giving our players time to develop...

I'm not the one cutting him I just really don't think he'll be there next year one way or another. -
And the general guideline is to give a wide receiver, if not all players, 3 years to fully develop. Ginn should have spent another year in college, I felt he was pretty raw... Was #9 overall too high for him? Probably.. But that's not his fault. We'll have to make due, I think he's been making huge strides from the beginning of the year until now. I think people expect him to be hauling in 100 yards, 1 TD per game and that's the main problem... Too high of expectations.
By the end of next season, we should have a real good idea of what Ted Ginn Jr's future will be in Miami. -
Wilford gets the axe before Ginn does.
-
i think our wr's next year will be ginn, g.cam, bess, london and a 5th guy we either draft or bring in.
-
i think chad henne may have something to say about that. henne could very well be the starter next year. not to knock pennington for what he's done, but I think henne can do it better. And I think Henne would be able to connect with Ginn ALOT more. Henne was constantly connecting with Braylon Edwards and Mario Manningham on deep bombs in Michigan. It just doesnt make sense to cut a WR who is working hard, getting better production than last year, and keeping defenses honest.
Look at Mark Clayton in Baltimore. He has stepped it up this season. Good thing they didn't cut him.PhinsRock, MonstBlitz, Paul 13 and 3 others like this. -

they shoulda cut Steve Smith too.....

Player development guys.
You can't judge prospects this quickly.

This thread completely ignores the fact that most wide receivers find their stride in the NFL in their 3rd season (except for those in disagreement who already mentioned it). No way does our new competent FO give up on a first round WR before seeing what he can do in his third year. This prediction will be proven very wrong. IMO.

Pennington's been great this year and I really can't imagine us benching him for Henne for any reasons beyond injury or terrible play. Both of those haven't been issues at all since he's been here (knock on wood).
I think Henne will continue to ride the bench until the Pennington train absolutely derails. You don't bench a guy who leads you from 1 win to 9+ the following year because you want to start a rookie with a bigger arm.
As for Ginn, like many others have said, GIVE THE KID A CHANCE TO DEVELOP.
Christ, this is only his 2nd year and people want ship him out already. -
"Parcell's guy" doesnt equal production in only 1 season. Its about work ethic, its about attitude, its about effort. I have not heard one bad word about Ginn in this context. He continues to show effort and positive attidue, nah, too early without hearing any locker room disruptive force antics to claim simply because in 1 year in Parcells/Ireland/Sparano system he is having inconsistent moments. I dont buy it that he isnt a Parcells guy.
And the part about Henne is valid (heck even Beck - although its hard to think Henne isnt getting the nod). -
I don't see how you cut a Wide Receiver after his second year in the NFL.
Ted Ginn is on pace to finish the year with 57 catches for 771 yards. That's better than the second year production of Lee Evans, Reggie Wayne, Roy Williams, and Santana Moss.
Evans, Wayne, and Moss are all speed receivers, like Ginn. Speed Receivers usually take the longest to develop at this level because they have to hone their separation skills and route running, due to the increase of speed in the defensive backfield. Route running was one of Ginn's weakest areas coming out of college.
I've seen him improve this year, certainly enough to warrant a spot on the team next year. I think it's ridiculous to consider cutting him after this season.Rocky Raccoon likes this. -
I am not a fan of his BUT he will not be cut. He is too young and too fast
His hands are decent and his top speed is great
He needs to develop more quickness and hit his holes quicker -
Hey, I'm just saying that I think and I think when all the dust settles he's going to be way down the depth chart and not worth much to the team.
-
I've never been a big fan of Ginn, hated the pick, but no way he's not on this team next season. Giving this thread 1 star, for not learning the lesson that Parcell's is too smart to get rid of someone with Ted's work ethic, speed, hands, and in only his 2nd year.

Only point I would reconsider in my thinking is one that I had not fully considered was his contract for next season. Even with that being said, I think if the right opportunity came up he would be out of there.

whos the winner that voted one star?

But even those can be dealt with, as long as "we" know those problems exist in the first place, stuff like avoiding contact, losing focus and dropping passes and not running hard on kick returns...those can be dealt with, so Ginn will be a Phin next year, he might be the number #3 guy, but he will be playing for us. -
Ginn may not be in Parcells' future plans but no matter what I don't think we improve so much at the position that we can move Ginn in one offseason.
-
-
Obviously none of us know what Parcells thinks of the guy but I can't imagine he hates having him on the team. (Like he did Hagan) -
-
Yes, Ginn who plays the position that aside from QB usually takes the most time to adjust to the NFL, won't be here next season.
Thats completely insane. He has a LOT of talent and he has flashed it multiple times this season. You can't expect a WR (especially one like him) to really turn the corner until his 3rd or 4th season. -
A guy can play, or he can't, he may polish off rough edges, but the underlying talent will be there, like Greg C, the guy just hung around, not because NFL people liked him personally, but because he could play and they saw he could.
ditto Ginn, he can play, he's not a terrible Wr at all, in fact, he's a decent Wr right now, he has alot of work to do though, and he may never be quite tough enough to be a #1 Wr, he could be our Terry Glenn...both the good and the bad of that included. -
Even someone who really liked the Ginn pick, such as myself, knew he was pretty raw and would need work. I don't see any reason to let him go, certainly not the fact that he was a high 1st rounder whom Parcells didn't draft. Jason Allen is in the same boat and he hasn't been let go, even while being far less productive than Ginn. Speaking of Allen, they clearly don't care where you were drafted when it comes to starting and playing time. So why would they start Ginn from day 1 if they didn't feel he was at least as good or better than the other receivers?
I wouldn't be surprised if they stay with Ginn, Camarillo, and Bess as the receiving corp, maybe adding a late round draft pick or a cheap free agent. And if that happens I will be comfortable with it. Yeah Ginn needs to keep developing and show more than he has this season. But I think he has enough talent to be a pretty solid receiver. -
-
As for the topic at hand. Ginn has progressed, and that should be good enough for all parties involved. The only way Ginn is gone next year is if someone blows us away with a trade offer. I don't see that happening, and I look forward to what Ginn can do for the Miami Dolphins in the future. -
I have no ill will about it. -
I don't know if I'm the only one that it bothers that Ginn, Camarillo & Bess all are tied with only 5 catches of 20+ yards this season.
Which one of them is known as the speedster that can "make things happen?"
The only thing he's near first on for wide receivers is fumbles. -
Good thread topic, CT.
I, personally, don't think that he'll be gone because of the reasons stated earlier. He's raw and its still early to get rid of him in my opinion because of that as well as the cap hit. In the future, I don't see him here nor am I sure that I see Ronnie Brown here but that's a different topic.

All i know is every time i think Ted is not cutting it he comes out and has a good game.
In my mind, i think Ted was worth the 9th pick " for what he did in College " but if Bill was here it's safe to say we would not have Ted now.
If Ted was a hunting dog he wouldn't be much good to anyone. I've never really seen a football player have to try so hard just to " man up " well other then Bobby Carpenter lol ..............so maybe Bill would of drafted Ted.
To me as long as other teams put two on him, or roll the converge to his side "and they do about 30 % of the time" he'll still be starting, because that just frees up are other WR's.
The way other teams play him as far as the converge will some day make him a very good WR.There are very, very, few young WR's in the NFL that have to play against the converge he see week in week out.
