I really like Benn, but I would not be happy if we passed on Dez Bryant for him. I'm not even sure I would like us passing on Brandon Spikes either.
I'd be pretty upset if we took Benn over the likes of Dez Bryant, Brandon Spikes, Jermaine Gresham, and/or Morgan Burnett. I like Greg Hardy too though and I think he's a realistic option for this team if they think he can stay healthy at the next level. Btw, who is "San Bradford"?
Interesting that they have us at 17. Benn is a good option if Bryant is gone - and IF you're picking a Receiver that early, when Linebackers are the heart of our Defense and we don't have any on the roster who will still be here in two years.
hard to take a mock draft serious that has T Cody playing CB... AND as someone else has already pointed out, why take Benn when Bryant is still on the board?
With the 17th Pick Miami Takes---- Anquan Boldin and a 2nd round pick from Arizona. I really think the phins trade thier first this year, even if its for a 1st next year and a 2nd this year.
I would be ROYALLY PISSED if the Fins traded their 1st round pick for a WR that is going to be 30 and can't stay healthy.
it's hard to judge until the FO makes some FA moves .... if we sign OLB (Merriman) and a WR (Jackson, Breaston, Henry, Marshall), then ILB becomes the priority ... if we go tier 2 or potential FA signings like we have done with some positions, then they remain priorities for the draft. no matter what, i believe we draft 2 LBs ....
More complete player IMO. He can cover better than Crowder and has seen time as a weak side pass rusher and had success. He's got a quick first step. If there's an issue that I have with Spikes, it's that he can get washed out by FB's in the run game but that's correctable IMO. I have a hard time seeing Marshall and Jackson on the market. Breaston doesn't do it for me. Henry is a question mark IMO.
All that stuff maybe true BUT I just don't think he is a very instinctive player (that is what I meant when I said he is like CC).
Dez Bryant 6'2, 215 pounds | Oklahoma State Strengths: The most noticeable thing about Bryant are his hands. They're incredibly large and strong, which allows him to make a lot of difficult catches in traffic. Bryant's hands are so impressive the New York Times wrote a whole story about them." http://www.mockingthedraft.com/2009/11/6/1119705/dez-bryant-nfl-draft-scouting
I've seen mock drafts leave Bryant out of the first round completely. Did some of these guys just forget about him? It's not like he did anything horrible, or had a career threatening injury.
I disagree. Spikes appears to be pretty damn instinctive to me. I've seen him make a few interceptions where he read the QB's eyes, broke on the ball, and took it to the house. I've never seen Crowder jump a route, much less intercept a pass. The only comparison I see between to the two is the school they attended.
Double up on TEs, Triple up on LBs, Double up on WRs. We may have a pick or two left for an NT, OL, or DB.
I think they know that the issue with Deon Sanders isn't the only one he's had and it's true. If you watch Bryant closely, you'll notice two things; he likes to complain if the ball isn't his way and he doesn't always run his routes to the fullest, much like Brandon Pettigrew last year. To add, Mike Gundy has talked very little about Bryant's character and there's a reason for that because Bryant hasn't always been the best of teammates. He's gotten better according to Gundy and in my opinion, he's matured since two years ago but it's still going to be a red flag because what if his quarterback plays like Jake Delhomme is currently playing? Is he going to be an issue in the locker room? There's more Bryant than just the Sanders-NCAA scandal so we don't know how significant his character issues are. However, I don't see him slipping out of the first round. Too talented to pass up on and when you think about how NFL Scouts are behind on scouting due to an NCAA-NFL issue, he's going to likely be drafted because of what he's done on the football field and that's produced.
I'd put my money on a guy like McClain, whom I think is a more complete ILB than Spikes, Greg Hardy if his prior off-field history doesn't worry this front office, or Jerry Hughes.
What off the field history? From everything I know, he hasn't had any legal issues and the only things that have been questioned is his character and that's only because people think he's weird. He's not a great communicator, kinda like Marvin Harrison.
Considering we run a 3-4, I could see us taking two ILB in rounds 1-4, then possibly taking an OLB in the later rounds. I am sure we'll grab either a TE, WR, or LB in free agency. Maybe not a tier one free agent, but something of the sort. Personally I think if we select a WR, it'll be in round one or two. If not there, then I think we don't take one unless something really good pops up in the later rounds. We're halfway through the season though so it's tough to really say anyways..
I am available in the first round if the phins are interested, I am really good at eating food. Bring on those millions.
I doubt we see 2 Tes and 2 WRs, though I could see a combination of both positions totaling 3 players. I definitely expect 3 LBs to be taken unless we spend big money on the position in FA (D'Qwell Jackson please!).
Not reflecting this on you, but that is one of the stupidest articles I've ever read. They certainly get the point across though
I'm a bit surprised about Bryant dropping that much. I had heard the rumors that many more character questions would come up but I still thought he'd go top 20. Anyway they did get the right position though. Barring a big trade or FA acquisition, big passing targets have to be our off season priority.
NFLDraftcountdown has Dez going in the Top 10. I expect up and down projections across the board. However, I think he'll be gone before we pick. While I wouldn't mind either, I'd rather have Dez. But I'd rather have McClain or Gresham actually.
Dez is going top 15 IMO unless he has totally crappy workouts. Hell, someone took a chance on Smith (OT Alabama) last year after what was probably the worst off season any college football player has ever had.
The one thing I can say without a doubt is that whatever position we take in the 1st round is going to get tagged again before the 3rd round. Ireland has a habit of doubling up on positions.
