Cody Ross is about to win a World Series ring and the Marlins still can’t find a manager.

What the hell is it with Miami and incompetent sports team management?

So you're saying if Cody Ross was here, we would have found a manager already?

Edit: I'm stupid. I don't know how I came to that conclusion, lol.

Speaking of the Marlins manager, I heard we are leaning towards retaining Edwin.

It’s pretty telling that we haven’t interviewed yet, for better or worse.

The White Sox are willing to let Ozzie Guillen out of his contract. Anyone else think Samson should use that gravelly voiced charm of his to get the White Sox to do just that? He’d be the perfect manager for the club. And hey, if the White Sox drive a hard bargain, we can always just offer Andrew Miller in exchange. :shifty:

    Where did you hear that?

And yes if true the Marlins should jump on Guillen. Yeah he talks a lot but he's actually a very good manager, especially with the pen.

EDIT: Nevermind, I saw a story about a Guillen for Michael Stanton trade was talked about. Hopefully the Marlins hung up the phone softly on Kenny Williams.

Wow, what a stupid trade offer by the White Sox.

That deal is sort of an insult...no one in their right mind would do that.

    I wouldn't trade Stanton's cleats for Ozzie.

Only the White Sox, and maybe the Mets, would make a dumbass offer like that.

I'm pretty sure the Marlins are the one who offered that trade. At least that's what I heard on the radio today.

    Not according to Joe Capozzi.

I believe it. If nothing else, because the Marlins heavily value a player who will make the minimum for 3 more years. They were only barely willing to trade him for Manny as an 18 year old. Wouldn't even discuss trading him for Adrian Gonzalez as a 19 year old. It wouldn't make much sense for them to trade him now that he's finally made it.

There's no way in hell the Marlins offered that deal and if they did and Kenny Williams didn't take it then everyone involved on both sides should be fired on the spot.

Exactly. He'd be doing back flips saying yes. Say whatever you want about the Marlins or the owner but they a very good front office.

I like how a simple joke about trading a player for a manager becomes reality a few hours later. This club… ugh.

Finkle, there were some stories after the end of the season about the White Sox being willing to let Guillen walk instead of serving out his contract. I mentioned it a couple of pages/weeks ago.

I think the fact that this Stanton deal was discussed means that the Marlins want him and the White Sox are willing to let him go. Andrew Miller for Guillen, make it work! :shifty:

Ethan Skolnick at the Heat home opener:

David Samson is courtside. Guess we know why the Marlins had to lie about operating finances: they were squirreling money away to pay for Heat season tickets!

Not wild about Edwin Rodriguez staying. I guess they couldn’t work out a trade deal for Ozzie Guillen. This really seems like a “let’s just take what we have and be done with it” move rather than the best possible course of action.

Well, there’s always next offseason. Guillen will be available.

I really don't know much about Rodriguez to really comment. But yeah I agree it's also dangerous to wait on someone that's under contract since there's always a chance he never reaches the open market.

Edwin did a fantastic job, IMO. Good enough to not want to give up a player for a manager who wouldn't be here very long.

He'll predictably be fired when their at or below .500 at the all-star break. Guaranteed they will not open the new stadium with him as manager.

That’s a 50/50 proposition at best. It depends on who’s available in 2011 and whether or not the front office wants to give up their Heat courtside season tickets and pay for a higher-profile manager.

If Guillen is out there in 2011 though, I think you have to throw the kitchen sink at him.

Top eight manager (maybe top seven now that Cox has retired) who can raise the Marlins’ profile locally and nationally going into the new ballpark.

You are really overstating the importance of a good manager. Edwin was very good as a rookie and I'd much rather pick up a veteran catcher/starter/pen help and keep Edwin than spend millions more on a manager who would last a year tops.

Which is maybe worth 2 wins. Maybe. While simultaneously costing millions more.

Millions? The guy makes $1.1 million a year. He’s actually near the middle of the pack in salaries. I realize just paying out average or near-average salary is a huge step up for this club, but the point remains.

I didn't realize that. Assuming he comes at a figure near that one, go get him.

Not getting him isn't a catastrophe though.

That’s why I said just going to an average salary would be a huge step up.
