Uggla says the Marlins have halted negotiations.

What the hell are the Marlins supposed to do after they offered you a great contract and you turned it down? I really want to trade Uggla now.

Wow. I didn't know that's why he dropped.

I say give him the five years but find a way to reduce the annual salary, maybe through some sort of signing bonus. Both parties get what they want, and the Marlins get a tradeable contract to boot. You know Bozo loves those.

    Uggla won't agree to that.

Why not? He’d basically win the negotiation at that point: he’d get both the five years and all the money.

Screw him. He won't get anything better than 4/48.

The need to sign him before he goes to arbitration. The arbiter will give Dan a ton of money after his output last year.

Uggla has won the NL Silver Slugger.

Irony: Miguel Cabrera won the AL Silver Slugger.

    Why is that ironic?

Also, the Silver Slugger is awarded like a Gold Glove. It goes to the best bat at each position.

    Should be obvious.

I don't get it either. Because Cabrera was a former Marlin? It's not like Cabrera plays 2B and was shipped out to make room for Uggla.

I think you two are inferring the wrong message.

I’m saying it’s ironic because we’re talking about possibly getting rid of one Silver Slugger player at the same time that a previous player we got rid of also won the award.

This is the baseball version of a Dolphins player going somewhere else and excelling.

But Cabrera and Uggla have already excelled with the Marlins. It's not like a David Ortiz type situation where the guy became a beast as soon as he switch teams. So while I understand what you're trying to say in the Dolphin comparison it doesn't really fit here.

Anyway I can't blame the Marlins if they let Uggla walk or they trade him. They gave him a very fair offer. Like Mainge said I think he'd have a hard time getting something bigger than that on the open market. Don't forget too a lot of Uggla's value is he's a 2B, although a poor one defensively. If he signs on with a team and they switch him to play 1st or 3rd, he isn't nearly as valuable there, although his bat would play at either position. Also his age is a factor too.

Keep in mind that this comes on the heels of the “let’s get rid of Andrew Miller” sentiment.

I don't get what you're trying to say there. That the Marlins shouldn't get rid of Miller? Or if/when they do he's going to turn into a useful MLB pitcher? I don't see how Uggla or Cabrera are even in the same ballpark as Miller here.

I’m saying it’s ironic that we could have had two Silver Sluggers, but instead we got rid of one for a bust pitcher and are now talking about getting rid of the other.

Sometimes this team feels like a quad-A squad.
