I Hope BC comes back soon... love him as a player. Tim Wood and much of the bullpen has been mediocre... hope they step it up.

I don't have a problem with Hurk. I have a problem with the fact that our pitching routinely blows to the point where he inevitably gets called up year after year.

Anyway, speaking of call-ups, Stanton will wear 27. You may remember #27 from such hits as Jeremy K. Hermida.

The Mike Stanton Arrival Guide for Fan Expectations:

    More at the link.

Still not sold on Stanton as the solution to our problems, contrary to the hype. Should be interesting to see what he can do, though. I predict an anticlimactic debut, but I'd love to be wrong.

Suddenly, with the Gnats pitcher getting all the headlines, I want Mike Stanton to bat 1.000, hit six home runs in this one game, and force Bud Selig to give Galarraga his perfect game just through sheer power of will.

It's unbelievable how much hype Stratsburgh is getting. It's like Stanton doesn't even exist.

He plays for a Miami team. To the national sports media he might as well be in Double-A. Actually, they probably think he IS in Double-A.

Strassburgh had basically been crowned the MVP/Cy Young Award Winner by the media before the ink was even dry on his contract. It's only fitting that they now cover his every breath since they've already invested so much into him.

My first impression of Stanton: Dude is gonna have a tough time with the breaking ball and off-speed stuff.

Not sure if he was able to go the other way in the minors, but he looks like a dead pull hitter.

his curve ball starts out high and outside on a left hand batter, and ends up being caught by the catcher low and inside a few inches off the dirt.

oh and its 20 mph slower than his fast ball.

    are you fuging kidding me?!?!

And Halladay, Utley, Howard, Rollins, Beltran and Bay.

They might just have the best division just based on pure talent alone. Yikes.

From my understanding, he was able to use the whole field. In fact, in his 3 homer game earlier, he went yard to left, right, and right-center.

Strasburg is the most hyped pitcher I can remember since Todd Van Poppel and Brian Taylor but I think he will be the real deal. His 14k's is 1 off the record for a 1st start set but JR Richard and one other dude whose name I heard but cant remember
Stanton has to get better going the other way in to the alley's but he has shown power to the opposite field. But hey the kid is only 20. Ike Davis had trouble with lefties for a while but he eventually worked his issue out. My guess based on what I know of Stanton's work ethic is that he will likely do the same. I still see him a small notch below Heyward but he is going to be a serious problem for pitchers for a long time.

Plus the Nats just drafted Bryce Harper who will be the next in the line of many great hitters in this division. Hes 17...Im guessing he makes the big leagues before he turns 19. he's that good. he's been hitting 500 foot bombs since he was 16.

The talent is unreal though for sure...just going through the teams its sick.

    Braves: Heyward, Jurrgens, Hudson, Hanson
    Marlins: Hanley, stanton, Johnson,
Mets: Reyes, Wright, Bay, Ike, Beltran, Johan, Pelfrey (dont look now but era creeping closer to 2.00 after tonight)...
Nats: Stras, Dunn, Zimmerman, eventually Harper..
Phils: Werth, JRoll, Utley, Howard, Victorino, Halladay, Hamels...

The NL All star team folks...:wink2:

It doesn't matter how good our bullpen is. Fredi doesn't know what he's doing.

My problem with Fredi is that the players don't seem to have improved under his tenure, like he's just letting them play instead of trying to make them better. On the other hand, he's not the problem with this club, as Loria seems to think. (Does Loria even think? The guy's an idiot.)

Speaking of stupid things, the new park will have an aquarium backstop. Just... who makes these decisions?

And I'm not sure what you refer to by "inner PMZQ." Are you referring to my reaction to the Mike Stanton hype?

This season went into a total tailspin during game 1. I feel like there's a certain denial of reality associated this franchise ever since reports emerged during the offseason that Loria was about to fire Fredi for not making the playoffs. Then we had that terrible April where the conventional wisdom seemed to be "don't panic, it's just April." But May wasn't much better, and Hanleygate didn't help matters. Now we're in last place behind the stinkin' Nationals.

Everything about this team feels surreal right now. If that means my posts are a little negative, that's fine, there's nothing wrong with that right now. The team needs to give me a reason to be positive, and "wait for 2012" isn't the sort of rallying cry I'm looking for.

Fredi Gonzalez and the Bullpen of Doom.

    LOL.

If the Marlins had a halfway competent Bullpen, they would be a lock for the playoffs.

I kind of agree with you, Sect. I wouldn't say lock, though. Fredi Gonzalez really does not know how to manage a bullpen.

Also, Desides, remain optimistic. Things will be better.
