With a ****ty QB. Finished 7-9. The year before that we ran all the time, and did a damn good job at it, still 7-9. Funny how we can finish with the same record when we actually have great line play and run the ball, than when we don't. Sorry, same old ****. No QB, another 7-9, maybe even 8-8 season coming. Tony Sparano won't get another HC gig, he's a ****ing idiot.
While I agree that the Dolphins have a need at center and guard and Pouncey will hopefully be a quality starter at one of these positions. The Dolphins not being able to trade and and pick up a second round pick is definitely a negative. Now the Dolphins will not have another selection until the third round and the possibility of picking up an impact running back or a QB of the future, now appears to be nearly impossible. I am sure Parcells, if he were still with the Dolphins would love the Pouncey pick, but I am now more convinced than ever that the Dolphins will finish last in the AFC East this season and will be lucky to win 4 games. At least the next coaching staff and GM will have a decent offensive line when they take over in 2012. All the new GM and head coach will have to do is find a QB for the future, running backs with game breaking speed and wide receivers who can actually run past a defensive back. It is obvious that Ireland and Sparano have no desire to provide the fans with the offense that the owner demanded after last season. I hope Ireland and Sparano are happy in their new jobs somewhere else once the 2011 is over. At least with the pick of Pouncey I can look forward to the Dolphins perhaps finishing at the bottom of the league standings and they might be able to draft Andrew Luck in the 2012 draft. Of course if Ireland is still the GM, he would probably pass on luck and instead take another big offensive or defensive lineman with the first pick in next years draft. While Pouncey has a chance to be a quality starter in the NFL. I think taking him this high in the draft was not a good decision. So far I would give this selection a D-.
That's another thing. Interior lineman with the 15th pick is awful value. We could of traded down, picked up another pick, and still had Pouncey or Carimi. Awful decision from an awful FO.
Maybe they find a way to also add Carimi. Hopeful thinking but it's always possible. Yes I'm obsessed with the offensive line. I think it can literally change the dynamics of a game by itself. If your inside players are getting a half yard deeper down the field, that's likely another yard the RB gains on average. The time your QB gets. It's just the place to improve. I don't care about G.B. or Pittsburgh (who needed Pouncey). Different teams have different formulas.
If Pouncey lives up to being worth 16th overall then he will be a welcome addition filling a big need for us. We need a center.
Vince Young is a bargain bin QB. He's terrible. Why do you think the Titans are going to cut him, and then draft a QB (albeit a god awful one) with the 12th pick. I'd rather Henne than Vince Young...
If the Dolphins traded everything it would take to get back into the 1st/early 2nd to get another guard, I'd not just stop buying tickets and merchandise like I've already decided too, I'd stop watching games altogether until these incompetent morons are out of here.
Not at all. Unless Pouncey can throw a football. Oh, he can't do that. He can be the best guard in the league, still won't help us to anything better than 8-8 at best. He's a G, not a C btw. Unless you like Centers who snap the ball into the dirt at least 5 times a game.
And the only formula that works is defense and passing game. And we can't pass the ball for ****. So, there's always next year when these morons get the boot and we hopefully bring in a real FO and coach.
I never said I supported the idea of VY but its pretty obvious they are either going after a vet or riding with Henne. All I can tell you is to pour yourself a shot or two or three or four and move on.
Sadly, we won't be that bad. Bad enough to miss the playoffs, good enough to miss out on elite QB prospects. Same ol' Dolphins.
Pouncy is a good, solid pick, and our O-line could be VASTLY upgraded w/ him at Center, and Garner back at RG probably. Long, Incognito, Pouncy, Garner, Carey .... am I missing something, or is that a damn good line? And you have a guy like Jerry to b/u the G position. Maybe I'm nuts, but whoever plays QB is going to have time to throw, and whoever runs is going to find more holes next season. By this pick alone, we've already upgraded at QB and RB in a sense! Not that I didn't want to see the Red Head down in South Beach at #15, but this pick doesn't make me sad either. Besides, I haven't completely given up on Henne yet.
I've already poured several. Hasn't taken away the pain of knowing my favorite team will continue to be mediocre though.
LMAO I dont follow college ball I thought he was a center. You just completeley screwed up my head now. I cant defend a guard here, even though we need a guard too. I do think an all-pro level center would add a lot to our offense. It isnt sexy but it is needed.
Get over it. Mallet or Dalton at 15 would have been a horrible REACH. The only thing I'm disappointed in is that we don't pick at all in the second round. We have no excuse this year for poor o-line play.
Honestly, I think Incognito can be a good Center. But yea, Pouncey isn't a Center. He was snapping balls in the dirt all year long. Guard prospect all the way, and a damn good one at that might I add. But a guard at 15 is terrible value. We could of had him or Carimi and gotten back a 2nd or 3rd by trading down. Either way, still no QB, more mediocrity imo.
And don't forget, Pouncy gets to square off with Paul Soliai everyday for a while before the preseason even starts. That will get him ready for the real thing from day one!!
Dalton, of course, dude isn't a good QB prospect at all. Mallett, no. Guy is the best pure passer in this draft easily. He'll just have to win games for some other team who's actually interested in winning football games while we continue to be mediocre, hoping our defense can carry our bottom 10 offense. You know, the way it's been in Miami since our last real QB retired.
At T not guard. Reason we would do it is we'll have to do it sooner or later for Carey. Mallet though is a possibility.
I could care less, but does anyone else think Hillis might be swinging for the other team? just sayin. It's speculative.
For all those wanting Vince Young in Miami. Remember there is a very good reason why he wore out his welcome with the Titans. He did not have the backing of his teammates or the coaching staff and he does not handle the pressure of being an NFL QB very well at all. Young is one of those players who was great in college but just doesn't have what it takes to make it in the NFL. I don't see Sparano or Ireland risking their jobs on a head case like VY. I do think they will bring in a veteran QB, since Henne obviously is not the long term answer at the QB position. I just don't think that Young is the veteran QB they will want to bring in.
It will be interesting to see who plays G and who plays C on our team. I think the best combo would be Long, Garner, Incognito, Pouncey, Carey. Maybe even Long, Pouncey, Berger, Incognito, Carey? Long, Incognito, Pouncey, Jerry/Garner, Carey? Still a lot to work on there. I'm interested to hear Ireland say what position they drafted him for.
I understand your disapointment at QB but who would you of taken at 16th? Im not draft guru but it sounds like there wasnt anyone really worth taking there. My oppinion is if you cant land your QB then continue to build around the postion preparing for your future. Cognito @ center........I'm not sold on that either. Servicable but not impactive. I rather see incognito back @ guard.
