It must be nice to be the Steelers sometimes, one of the better run organizations with a solid ownership. The Steelers offseason reminds me of my breakfast, over easy. They manage to get a few of their key players to restructure their contracts and got some breaks in free agency and now get another break with this pick Thirty-First: Whitney Mercilus, DE, Illinois - Pittsburgh Steelers Really how does this guy fall here? De Ja Vu, I know but really. Is it because he's only got a year starting? He is a raw pass rusher, and gives off an Aldon Smith vibe to some. Others believe he's raw in the sense of Jason Pierre-Paul coming out, regardless of all that he finds himself in the best situation. Pittsburgh is known for drafting guys for depth and letting them develop under great coaching, and behind stellar players before they're given their chance to shine. This should be no different for Mercilus and you can expect him to be another great Steeler outside rush linebacker. This must have been a pretty easy choice for the Steeler brass. Peter Kiper rating: A Peter Kiper's Soundtrack to the draft equivalent: Easy - Lionel Richie "I wanna be high, so high I wanna be free to know The things I do are right I wanna be free Just me, babe! That's why I'm easy I'm easy like sunday morning"
Yeah, I achieved what I wanted to do in the first round. Oh, btw, Bernard Pollard and Pitta are available to anyone who wants to part with a third for each.
when I signed richardson it wasnt to replace baluga, it was an ins policy as I had given up sherrod. i didnt need numerous FA and at the $ amt richardson was option i chose. offer for baluga was good enuff to entice me that at the time Melvin Ingram was still there, (the last time i had checked). so did the deal knowing that if ingramm went which he did, there was an OT i liked to replace him. i knew ingram wasnt lasting til 47. from 22 to 28 was a stretch but who cares i dont lose either way Sanders is good value and a good player
Finally the last pick of this round, this is cause for celebration as I will have filled my contracted obligations! Words take time from my drinking and that's never a good thing. Anyways looks like the Jets moved down again and completely out of the first round and the Titans wind up being the team with three first round selections. They hit so far with a corner, receiver and now add again to their defensive backs. Thirty-Second: Mark Barron, S, Alabama - Tenesse Titans Titans go back to Alabama and add to their defensive back unit, this time bringing in the play calling leader of the Crimson Tide. It's nice whenever you can move up and make a play for a difference maker. He more than likely slid down because of injuries but knocked him down the draft. Titans get a guy who is quick to jump the passes, in the middle for run support where he knows when to be patient and when to get aggressive. Speed is the difference between strong and free safety for Barron. The major concern is that the past two seasons ended in injury for him, so we'll see what happens when he hits the next level. Peter Kiper rating: A Peter Kiper's Soundtrack to the draft equivalent: Closing Time - Semisonic "Closing time Time for you to go out to the places you will be from I know who I want to take me home"
I <3 big black guys who mess people up. Todd, if you don't do something with that, I'll lose all hope.
Yeah there was some interest in that pick, I figure people were making a move on Glenn so it worked out for the Raiders. I think Randy Kiper is taking over for the second round, but we'll see if Peter has another bottle lying around.
I myself was debating between Glenn and some defensive lineman. Glenn was almost too good of a value to pass up because I like versitile lineman who can play multiple positions, which is why I ended up overpaying for Connolly in FA, since he can play all three interior spots. Consider yourself lucky.
I had a hunch you may have drafted him too, but I wasn't sure since you're team is pretty well off. Luckily you are awesome and kind and generous
The first pick of the second round... a relief that we made it through one round as it shows some level of committment. You'll get more bang for your buck in the 2nd round but sometimes you end up with questions you'll never be able to answer... such as how Peter Kiper got his job in the first place? #33 Overall - Dwayne Allen, TE, Clemson - New York Giants The Giants look to fill their biggest need and give Eli Manning a new target after losing Mario Manningham & Jake Ballard. With only Travis Beckum on the roster who likely won't be ready for NFL Kickoff 2012, the Giants desperately needed to find someone to start other than Bo Scaife who hasn't played since 2010. Allen is probably the best pure pass catcher of the tight ends in the draft who plucks the ball away from his body, but what separates Allen from the rest of the pack though is his ability to block. While he is a tad bit raw, the Giants are a great team to get him coached up to be the next Jeremy Shockey... except less of a douche. Randy Kiper Grade: A- Player Comparison: Jermaine Gresham
Hard for a Gamecock alum to like a Clemson Tiger player but I do like Dwayne Allen a lot as a pass catching TE. My favorite TE in the draft. Once he went off the board I knew I was in the market for a TE and lucky I had Baltimore waiting.
It is said that the late Al Davis loved a man with a lot of speed... however the new GM in place seems to love just the opposite; a man with a lot of girth. They paid some big money to bring in Demetrius Bell and snapped at any offer involving Stefan Wisniewski... now they used their first pick in the draft on a big ole' boy from Georgia. #34 Overall - Cordy Glenn, OG, Georgia - Oakland Raiders The Oakland Raiders desperately threw $10.0M at Demetrius Bell to have him play right tackle and now they will use their resources to shore up the line even more by selecting Cordy Glenn out of Georgia. This gives Oakland a very good offensive line for Jason Campbell and Michael Bush to work with. Here's a new question though: does Campbell have anyone to throw to? Even Peter Kiper could make their roster at this point. Glenn is a big man standing 6'5" and weighing in at a whooping 348 pounds. However don't assume that his size means that he cannot move; he is surprisingly athletic for how big he is. While Glenn played left guard, right guard, and left tackle in college, I'd project him to be playing offensive guard at the next level. The Raiders got quite the deal here with the second best guard in the draft, no question about it. Randy Kiper Grade: A Player Comparison: Mike Iupati
It appears we have a run on offensive linemen and it makes you wonder if the Vikings got their guy or had to settle. The Vikings GM is well known for targeting his guy at a specific round and taking him; no matter what the rest of the league thinks... sometimes it works (see Brian Orakpo); sometimes it doesn't (see Jerry Hughes). Regardless you have to respect a man who is willing to go against the grain because he trusts his own eyes. #35 Overall - Kevin Zeitler, OG, Wisconsin - Minnesota Vikings The Vikings needed someone to groom behind Bobbie Williams, who is a good offensive guard however he doesn't have much left in the tank. They traded for Brian Bulaga earlier giving them their left tackle of the future but they needed to get that entire left side ready for the next ten years.... enter the big man from Wisconsin: Kevin Zeitler. Kevin Zeitler quite possibly has the best technique out of every lineman in the draft and that could be the very reason why the Vikings GM loves him. He is blessed with long arms and is an extemely tough son of a gun. The good thing about offensive linemen from Wisconsin is that they are more pro ready than most. If an offensive lineman isn't pro-ready and he's from Iowa or Wisconsin, then something is wrong! I can't tell what move is next for the Vikings; they need to fire that webmaster who updates their roster though! Randy Kiper Grade: A- Player Comparison: Marshal Yanda
Yeah, I honestly considered taking him at 23. I didn't think there was much of a chance he'd be there at this pick. I was looking a few times to move up for him.
I feel like I've been doing more work the past two hours than I have done the past two days... but alas another hour goes by and another selection is made. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers use up another selection to shore up their defense... but I could have sworn they had two first round picks, not three... the talent they selected says otherwise at least. #36 Overall - Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama - Tampa Bay Buccaneers I'll be very honest here and say that the Buccaneers have the best starting cornerbacks in the league... five years ago. Fast forward to present time and Rashean Mathis is on his last leg... at age 31 and coming off an ACL injury, it's safe to say he only has a few more years left. Marcus Trufant, also age 31, hasn't lived up to the large contract he received from Seattle four years ago. While these two guys would have been great to have together in their prime, they're good enough to start for the next year or two... it doesn't hurt to have someone waiting for that next year or two though. Janoris Jenkins is an absolute steal at this point in the draft. I would have projected him to go in the top twenty of the draft but who would have known he slides into round two? Jenkins is a very explosive player who excels in both man and zone coverage. While he does lack ideal size, he can get away with something like that in Tampa Bay's system. Whether or not you feel like his character concerns are worth investing a first round pick in, you cannot deny that Tampa Bay got a hell of a player in the second round. Randy Kiper Grade: A+ Player Comparison: Adam 'Pac-Man' Jones
Am I seeing double? I feel like the Raiders were just on the clock two minutes ago. Oakland seemed to be a little upset about my girth comment so they went ahead and took a wide receiver. Now he didn't go the speed route so the GM seems to still have the big black man fetish drafting a bigger receiver in Sanu. I am sure his next pick he'll make sure I can't make fun of him for his weird fetishes. #37 Overall - Mohamed Sanu, WR, Rutgers - Oakland Raiders The Oakland Raiders have absolutely no one at wide receiver. I mentioned that my brother, Peter, could have made their roster and while we all laugh and have a good time... Rumors are swirling that the Oakland's GM has offered Peter a try-out. I don't know what they're thinking but at least they are getting one thing correct by selecting Sanu out of Rutgers. In fact Oakland seems to have hit on their first two picks going with a combination of value as well as need. Mohamed Sanu is a bigger wide receiver who is great in jump-ball situations and is a very good route runner. Sanu has big soft hands that he can pluck the ball out of the air and has no problem going over the middle to make the catch. He is willing to take more hits than Charlie Sheen (not the same kind of hits, mind you). And on the bright side, if the Raiders have trouble getting him the ball through the air being they put their hopes all on Jason Campbell's arm... he has proven he can run the ball with over 650 rushing yards and 9 touchdowns while at Rutgers. Tell me about it. Andrew Luck going that high really sent my draft into a tailspin, it's gotten so bad I haven't been able to do anything else but trade back because now I'm not sure of anything, the world or the draft.
Actually he wasnt my pick, shows you where my head is. LOL he was a guy I liked alot but have Dlineman. I was looking at him and someone else who I wanted at 47 who is still there. Was not thinking at all. I just looked back and saw who was taken. Whitney was a guy I liked but couldnt take rd 1. The other guy is teh 1 I was thinking of. Yeah I know what the hell are you talking about? Sorry been at work since 5:30 am and just leaving now
Still is a very good pick there IMO. He was another one that was in the running for me to pick at 26, and then at 36.
So with all of these WRs flying off the board, Arreleous Benn is sitting in Tampa waiting for a team to make a call. He knows he's better than anything else available and can be had for merely a 3rd round pick. Preston Parker can be had for even less. Just sayin'.
You should talk to one of them teams with multiple 3rds then. So much talent left on the board, it's going to be hard to decide because I still see lineman on both sides I've been considering every time I dropped back still there. Then again the Colts shocking me and taking Luck still hurts, so I don't think I'll be able to draft for a while.
