Wow, hope none of you guys have Brett Lawrie on your fantasy teams, he's going to go on a "little vacation" after his meltdown tonight.
This should really be interesting to see how many games he gets. When Delmon Young threw his bat at an ump in the minors he got 50 games. MLB has to really set an example here, no matter how bad the call is (and the last 2 strike calls on him were horrible) you can't have a player throwing things at the ump or in their direction. My guess is he'll get 40 to 50 games and it will be reduced to 25 to 30. And although the ump was the victim here, MLB HAS to do something about the terrible job these guys are doing each game. There's simply no accountablity with them. EDIT: Joe Torre has come out and said he doesn't think Lawrie meant to hit the ump with the helmet, so I'm now guessing he'll get about 10 games when all is said and done.
Of course he didnt mean it, but the bottom line is it happened....accidents happen...the kid should get more than 10.....it is like you said Fink, you simply cant do that stuff in baseball... Leave that wild rampage stuff to the managers, cant players do what Jeter does....simply just go over and have a private little chat with the ump....
Oh I agree, you can't act like that and throw things in the umps direction. He should get at least 20 games, even if it's just to set an example to the other players out there. You can't and shouldn't do that stuff in any sport really. And I'm sure every team in any sports wishes their players would do interviews and act the way Jeter does on the field. Just give plain vanilla answers to questions and respect the game, the other players, teammates, managers and umps even if they're in the wrong. Be classy always. Except when something has to do with Arod, then all bets are off....
Wow that's pretty shocking. I was sure they would have handed him a bigger one. He got off a little light there.
Watch Megatron go nuts....he goes up there laughing, he proceeds to hit bombs hahah http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/22825103/vp/47498171#47498171
Interesting fact if true: According to Hit Tracker, the grand slam by Stanton last night left his bat at 122 MPH which is the fastest since the stat started being tracked in 2006.
Moore looks unreal the last 6 innings. Unhittable. Not saying he has figured it out, but he has located the past 6 innings. His curve and change up has not only been strike out pitches, but has been able to locate them for strikes as well. If I were to guess, I would say get ready for dominate Matt Moore..
I had reservations, but I believe they are for real. Their bullpen has been unbelievable. They have a good offense, and good defense. Their starters will regress I think, but with their bullpen and defense, I don't see that as being their down fall....they may not make the playoffs because of the East, but hey will compete and will have a winning record IMO.
Not buying them at all. They just don't have the starting pitching and outside of Adam Jones and Matt Wieters that line up can be pitched to. Every year there's at least 2 or 3 teams that are suppose to be bad that get off to a hot start and then by the All Star break they're out of it. Just look at the Indians and Pirates last year as good examples.
This....in a different division maybe, but here they are going to get tired..... at some point like every team does, they will lose 8 out of 10 and from there it will be interesting to see how they respond..... I wouldnt be surprised if they finish ahead of the Yanks though....
Oh in the AL or NL Central the Orioles would definitely be able to compete. But the AL East is just a different animal. Part of the reason why Baltimore is doing so well is because teams like the Red Sox and Yankees aren't. Also the injury bug has hit the Sox, Yankees and even the Rays. Again the season isn't even 2 months long yet, there's a lot of time left.
He's young, he plays a tough position, plays it well, hits for power, has speed, good arm. Not much not to like about him, well he doesn't talk walks but he's entering his prime years. Overall I like the signing, he's probably worth that money. He'd probably get more in the open market.
The only way this thought would have been funnier is if you typed: P.S. in similar news: Pittsburgh outfielder Nate McLouth was designated for assignment Friday after producing a lowly .140 batting average during his second stint with the Pirates.
It's Friday afternoon before a long weekend clearly my brain has checked out. In a nutshell I'm an Adam Jones fan. As for McLouth, it's amazing how 2 really good months can change an opinion on a player. McLouth went from "just another guy on the Pirates" to "OMG McLouth is awesome" almost overnight, when there were big warning signs on him before and after his break out 2 months. In 3 years when Melky Cabrera gets released by whatever team he's on then, we can dig up this thread so we don't have to wonder why. Charlie Morton wins the trade though!
