Obviously most of the big name players will get tagged, however this is a deep list this year. Miami is in a good position to make a run at a few too.. Fred Davis is a name that interest me, game changing TE, should probably lay off the weed sacks though... http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/nfl/39667/59/nfl-free-agent-master-list
Really? Something that happens for 5 days in early January will affect something that doesn't begin until March? Yeah, I doubt that.
I don't think we should be interested in bringing a tight end in. Charles Clay has everything you want except consistency right now. He can make extraordinary catches. He can get down the field and make big plays. He can get open vs. quality competition. He can block pretty well in some circumstances. If he puts it all together and plays at the upside he's shown in his rookie season he's going to be a very good player. He shouldn't have any road blocks in his way.
Clay is very nice, where he is....not sure if Clay takes on full time TE duties he would be as good IMO...plus I dont think it would take big money to sign davis, why not have the best of both worlds?
I don't know what you mean by "where he is". Position-wise it really doesn't matter. A fullback or an H-Back is eating the same snaps as a Tight End is, and I don't think Clay is going to really lose anything if he exclusively becomes a tight end. It's not the best way to utilize his blocking, but there are elite receiving tight ends in the NFL with worse than what he's capable of.
In the backfield....picking up blitzes, running routes from the backfield...remember as a FB on a pass play he could be covered as the 5th option.....as a #1 TE he is covered as 2nd, 3rd?
Yeah really and I'm talking the top tier players. As in let's say they don't land Fischer (which I wish they never would have went after) and because of this we loose the 2nd or 3rd choice coach and with that some or all of the coaching staff they would have built around. Then in the end we have what to attract a free agent? Money, South Beach, Cuban sandwiches or is it the winning organization with the great fanbase that is soooo enticing ? The league is full of money and winning organizations that will pay and work it around the salary cap. Yeah really.
I think he's a better blocker in the backfield, but as a receiver? I don't know, he's not really getting a lot of added benefit. He's made nice catches doing both. I don't really agree that a fullback means he's drawing lesser coverage inherently, either. If Clay is the same guy who made back to back big receptions on a top coverage cornerback like Brandon Flowers, then he's not really the type of guy you're going to have to hope teams are under-covering for him to make plays.
No one as of yet. What is so inspiring to bring anyone to the Dolphins after they've painted themselves in the Fisher corner if they don't land him? All of this is speculation anyway from all of us and I'm not going to make this into another HC thread. Now go take your afternoon nap and maybe you'll wake up in a better mood. Really.
Plenty of talent, and we should have a boatload of cap space. Whoever takes over will have a solid structure to work with. Grab Ronnie on the cheap and play him as the lone back in shotgun or straight up FB.
