If you want the closest thing to an automatic win in baseball I don't know why you'd consider anybody other than Medlen.

The Braves have altered the pitching rotation to line-up starter Kris Medlen to pitch in the one-game wild card playoff.

Grats to Atlanta... very fitting to clinch on a walk off HR off a team spiraling to the gutters.

Thought I'd bump this so we can get some offseason talk going. Now that the Marlins have relegated themselves to a triple a team, (I kid, I kid) , the offseason is underway IMO. So post any news or rumors. Just some of my own tidbits I've read:
    1) David Ross and Bourn are gone.
    2) Supposedly we are receiving a lot of attention for JJ.
    3) We are looking up at picking up two outfielders, right handers. I've read we are interested in Cody Ross, Torrii Hunter and some others whose name escape me at the time. Oh read we have no interest in Upton.

I heard somewhere that Cody Ross was interested in Atlanta last offseason so I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him signed. It would have been nice to get David Ross another season while our catching prospects are still raw but what can you do. There was no way they were paying him what Boston offered.

Yeah I'm not too worried about replacing ross or bourn. I look at it as this will give us a year to get our prospects ready so we can play hard ball with mccann. I'm hoping we trade JJ for someone and pick up cody ross.

so as we all know I'm sure, we signed upton. I'm not sure how I feel about it as to me, it seems we'll be waiting for both he and uggala to become better. It's a hell of a risk IMO.

Both guys have been in the league for so long, I think what you see is what you're going to get from the both of them. Upton maybe has some more upside based on his age but Uggla is probably starting/started his decline.

He's certainty not as good as Bourn.

I personally think Bourn is a pretty underrated player and assuming money is equal I think Bourn is the safer player for the next 5 years in terms of his overall numbers being consistent. Upton clearly has the higher upside potential but I'm not sure if we're ever going to see that. I don't know though I think I might roll the dice with Upton just based on his power projection, possibly getting better and age. Upton is at his peak right now, Bourn might be at the middle/middle of the end of his. Both are risks though.

One thing to consider is that the Braves have been looking for a right-handed power hitter to put in the OF for a while.

To me, Bourn gives you more options.

I thought I read Melden pulled out because of the birth of his 1st kid would be around that time? If I were any team I wouldn't want any of my players, especially pitchers, going anywhere near the WBC.

I kind of hope that's true. I could live without either of them pitching in the tournament. Especially Medlen as a starter.

Andrelton Simmons is killing it for the Netherlands in the WBC. Tehran is finally starting to show some of that potential we've been waiting for. Five no hit innings in his last appearance. I wish the season would get here already.
