First one... Adam Beasley @AdamHBeasley Cuts have begun. Michael Clay has been released, I have been told. Update: 4:08p Waived: LB Michael Clay WR Jeff Fuller DE Emeka Onyenekwu WR Julius Pruitt WR Andrell Smith LB Nathan Williams LB David Hinds FB Jorvorskie Lane Terminated Contract: G Lance Louis
You just scared the **** out of me.. .I saw the name Rodriguez and my heart dropped. Hope he sticks all the way to the 53.
I'd be suprised if Mcnutt makes the cut..there is something inherently weak about his arms and hands.. Bumphis and Tyms should battle for the 5th.
Not sure why you feel like that, unless it's a solid being done by his coach, he drops, he fumbles, he catches then fumbles.
IMO he shouldn't go buying property down in Miami just yet. Side note... wasn't he released by the Bears for off the field stuff? Does he have some kind of legal issue pending?
I saw 'Clay' and thought Charles....was wondering what was going on...He's the closest thing we have to a starter at TE....whew....I wouldn't have as much of a problem of him being cut as to who was going to replace him ??
Julius Pruitt is not precisely a shocking dismissal, especially on a LIFO (Last In, First Out) basis...but I thought Andrell Smith stood on much shakier ground among the wide receivers. Jorvorskie Lane I'm flat out shocked didn't survive the first round of cuts. I had Rodriguez ultimately making it ahead of Jorvorskie, but on final cut downs.
The team has made the following transactions in order to get the roster down to 75 players, as required by the NFL: Waived: LB Michael Clay WR Jeff Fuller DE Emeka Onyenekwu WR Julius Pruitt WR Andrell Smith LB Nathan Williams LB David Hinds FB Jorvorskie Lane Terminated Contract: G Lance Louis
No real surprises, though I agree with Chris that Jorvorskie Lane being cut right now is a bit odd. Figured he'd get more of a look.
lol this entire board was gassed up on Lance Louis being our savior at RG....couldn't even make the damn team.
it is to me, they couldn't have the patience to wait until he got healthy? especially when the alternative is John Jerry.
Adam Beasley @AdamHBeasley4m Back of the envelope math tells me the Dolphins lopped another $2M or so off their cap today by cutting Lane and Louis. This could explain why they made the move now, assuming that he's not going to be ready for a while yet from the injury...
Here's the pseudo depth chart I posted in another thread: QB: Tannehill, Moore, Devlin, CORP RB: Miller, Thomas, Gillislee, Gray FB: Rodriguez, Lane TE: Clay, Sims, Egnew, Miller WR: Wallace, Hartline, Gibson, Matthews, Bumphis, McNutt, Tyms, Fuller, Pruitt, Davis, SMITH OT: Clabo, Martin, Thomas, Yeatman, Adams, MCDONALD OG: Incognito, Jerry, Samuda, Garner, Louis, BARKER OC: Pouncey, Brenner DT: Soliai, Odrick, Starks, Randall, Martin, Francis, Robertson DE: Wake, Vernon, Jordan, Shelby, Okpalaugo, Applewhite, ONYENEKWU LB: Ellerbe, Wheeler, Misi, Trusnik, Spitler, Jenkins, Freeny, Kaddu, Robinson, Clay, Hinds, WILLIAMS CB: Grimes, Patterson, Carroll, Davis, Taylor, Stanford, Posey, Presley, JONES S: Jones, Clemons, Wilson, McCray, Kovacs, JOHNSON ST: Fields, Denney, Sturgis I figured that Nathan Williams, Michael Clay and David Hinds were probably all up for being cut amongst the linebackers. I chose Williams amongst them in the thread as the guy most likely to be cut, and chose Clay on twitter, as I waffled between the three guys...I didn't think they'd pare it down to such a degree to where they would cut all three. They did. I figured Andrell Smith was the weakest of the receivers, and thought they'd cut one, not three. I had Keenan Davis wrong though. He should have been ahead of Jeff Fuller. I had Chris Barker as being on weaker ground than Lance Louis. Guess that wasn't true. I had Jorvorskie Lane as the weaker of the two fullbacks which ended up true, but I still didn't expect a cut so soon. I had Emeka Onyenekwu right.
IMO the cuts show much much Ryan and Matt are playing on Thursday's game. Unless Corp gets cut beforehand.
I can appreciate that they were put into a bad position here. Lance Louis still wasn't healthy enough to legitimately toss his hat into the ring for the starting job, and if they kept him on the 53 man roster they'd have to guarantee his entire salary. They HAVE to make a decision here soon. We're into the week of the last preseason game and they still haven't decided the starting right guard. It wasn't going to be Louis, so there's not much point keeping him around longer. His salary was only going to be worth it if you end up starting him.
I think how terrible the entire 2nd string has been at pass blocking, my guess is they are making sure Matt survives to be able to play if Ryan goes down.
No more odd than the timing of cutting Marshall. Now, Carroll is hurt, and Will D is still dinged up from the Bucs game.
