Just hope we don't trade 4 picks to move up and take one player. Only thing preventing a trade up of an OT, imo, is if the Big Three are gone by the fifth pick. In that case I bet we draft a CB and pull the trigger on the Brandon Albert deal.
I'd laugh......... but it'd be more like the Clark Griswold laugh in Christmas Vacation when he reads his bonus is actually a membership in the Jelly of the Month Club.
I'm predicting Bills take Nassib after a trade down, Jets take Mingo at 9 and Austin at 13. We get Milliner at 12.
I'm hoping we somehow end up with ziggy but I know this is beyond unlikely. Going to be interesting because I see milliner being there if eifert is also there I wonder what Ireland does.
I have a feeling I'm going to be bummed out like I was in 1995 after we took Billy Milner and Andrew Greene. I want Austin too much. They so seldom take anyone I want that I do not expect it to happen this year. The guys I can think of I really wanted and was extremely excited when we took them were Louis Oliver, (big surprise after we traded back up into round 1), Zach Thomas, (whom I was begging JJ to take with each 2nd day pick, then felt total ecstasy when his name appeared on the screen as pick #154), and James Johnson (I was convinced he was going to be a great runner for us). So the odds are very low IMO that the pick will be Austin.
C'mon Irish!!! We've got runners on first and third. A double into the gap would be nice but I'd settle for a bloop single b/c another year of Fireland debates might ruin this forum for good.
... or an athletic pass rusher like his previous 2 studs, Wake & Ware. Surprise us all and trade up for either Ansah or Mingo since that's the only position we couldn't address in FA (that is, if we sign Albert and remove tackle from the list). Wasn't Michael Johnson reportedly our top FA target at one time? If so, I'm not sure I can see us going from Michael Johnson as the top target but failing to sign any FA pass rushers to not having a big interest in 1st round pass rusher as a fall back plan, especially when it seems like one theme of this offseason was to get more athletic on defense, make more plays, and create more pressure. What's to say swapping out the 2 linebackers wasn't a part of a bigger plan?
See this is a perfect example of the Ireland Lovers duplicity. So lets give him credit (without mentioning Parcells) for Ware & Wake, but of course White, Turner, Henne, Merling, etc were all Parcells and Ireland had nothing to do with them. I don't expect anyhting more than intellectual honesty. If he gets credit for those finds, he also has to take as much credit for the failures. You can't have it both ways.
With the exception of Tannehill, Ireland has done a good job of being conservative in the draft and if with the # of picks he has another conservative draft means another good draft. Just take good players, damn the position they play, school they attended, how good their highlight tape is or whether the fans will be excited. Take good players who fit the scheme and let the coaches figure out where to play them. Simple, easy. Just don't mess it up. Simple easy, just don't mess it up. Say it with me now...
Dude, piss the hell off. This is a draft thread so leave your petty Ireland lover crap out of it. It's a fact Ireland wanted Ware & Wake (well documented in Ware's case), so perhaps he'll want to go that pass rush route again. That's it. That's all I said. That IS intellectual honesty, genius, b/c it's in an attempt to decipher our 1st pick, not turn this into a pro/anti Ireland thread, but congratulations, you just did, meaning you're ironically the one compromising intellectual honesty.
Lets all stand in Ireland's corner today folks, like it or not he is our GM and IMO has done better than he ever has in FA...so why not believe he can do better than he ever has in the draft? Unite us! Unite the clans!
Intellectual honesty, dictates that Ireland had to find players that fit Parcells system AND had to use Parcells notorious checklists for these players (google; Parcells QB checklist, for an example, you'll notice Henne was a prototype Parcells QB). I don't know why this is lost on so many people, but it is frustrating. Oh, and Parcells has already accepted responsibility for the Pat White pick.
Jesus Christ man. It's early for the love of everything that's holy. We actual have to make it to 8pm without a razor in the shot glass. Take it down a notch. Great googly moogly.
Great idea for this thread today, but I'm not sure Parcells needs to be brought up. I'm sure he's going to enjoy this meat and potatoes draft at his local horse track betting parlor though. I'm pretty sure Parcells wanted Merriman, but Ireland pounded the table for Ware. Looks like that ended being the correct decision there. I'm sure Ireland had some input into all of the picks that were made during the tenure with Parcells. However, he was working with Parcells' blueprint to find players that fit Sparano's system. Now he's working off his own blueprint to find players to fit Philbin's system. I think his willingness to look outside the "prototype" that was established working with Parcells, is somewhat encouraging for this draft. That said, if we trade up to 3 w/Oakland for an OT and give up several picks, then that enthusiam will disappear quickly for me. A move up to 6 w/Cleveland wouldn't be AS BAD, because the compensation wouldn't be as steep since it may include Bess. Would be thrilled to stay and get Austin since I can't seem to get his ability to benefit the rest of the offense out of my head. Haven't heard anything about him being connected to Miami lately though. Maybe they're keeping their cards really close to their vest. All I know is I haven't been this excited & nervous about a draft in a long time with all the uncertainity and rumors going around.
One of the big 3 I assume. I thought I heard Miami wasn't "in love" with Johnson like they are with Joekel and Fisher. Johnson seems to have the highest ceiling of the 3 IMO.
If he doesn't end up making the trade for Albert, I believe OL will be the selection in the first round. If he does make the trade, I think he will go CB, DL, or possibly TE with the 12th pick. I would love to see the Dolphins draft Hayden, Ansah, Lotulelei, Jarvis Jones, or Eifert. Picking anyone of these players with the 12th pick would make me happy. Austin would also be a great pick, but I just don't see them going WR in the first round after all the money they already have tied up in the WR position.
What up homeslices...my advice is to start drinking heavily so we can all be drunk by 8...and lets just get fu&$in weird together lol.. Casserly said that he has spoken to other GMs in the league that have told him that Ireland has made phone calls gauging their interest in a trade up situation..Casserly isn't good for much these days but I think I can take that one as real.
They were just reporting on espn that the dolphins may trade the house to Oakland if the chiefs go for 1 ot and jax picks Jordan or someone to that effect. On another note, the jets picking eifert and Austin would be horrible. I think eifert will be there at 12 if he makes it past Cleveland at 6. IF we do not select him at 12 I don't know if he will make it past the jest at 13.
Based on everything I am hearing re; Austin, if the Jests want him, they better take him at #9. If he's still there that is.
Hope you're right about Mingo. That guy screams of Gholston part II. Athletic ability for days, yet doesn't produce.
Clayton reporting we offered 54 to KC for Albert, now they are talking about throwing in Bess. I've seen one Mock that I really enjoyed earlier today. Had St. Louis trading their 1A to us and their 3rd and taking Austin, then us taking Eifort after trading down.
If this were Madden, I'd trade Bess, trade back from 12, take Eifert, trade back into the first for Hayden, then take Carradine, Bailey, and Swope with my next three picks.
Beast, Please FO, forget about needs, forget about everything, just draft a beast finally. Look at the tapes and find a beast. As far as Ireland, people who think he's done well will think he did great regardless, and the opposite holds true as well.
NFLN reporting Dee Millner stock is dropping. Something about an injury history coming to light. They're suggesting he will likely fall into the middle of the first round. Sorry, no link. Just reporting what I heard.
