    Rules of Free Agency

    1. Bidding on cut players can begin on February 26.

    2. Bidding on free agents (non-tagged/non-tendered) can begin March 12.

    3. We use a bidding format in the free agency forum.

    4. When a bid lasts 24 hours without being raised, the bidding team is awarded the player.

    5. Minimum bid is 480K for non UDFA rookies, 405K for UDFA rookies, there is no maximum bid.

    6. Minimum bid increments are the following:
    $405,000/$480,000 - $1,000,000 = $50,000 increments
    $1,000,000 - $5,000,000 = $100,000 increments
    $5,000,000 & Up = $250,000 increments

    7. You cannot go over the salary cap at anytime with your bids, draft pick salaries included. If you need more room to make a bid, you must cut a player before placing that bid.

    8. You cannot have more than 5 bids simultaneously, if you do, you will forfeit your most recent bid to get you at 5 bids. This includes both positional free agents and cut players.

    9. You cannot trade players you sign in free agency. You may trade your franchised/transitioned players or RFA tenders. The only exception to this is that you can cut players signed to contracts less than $550K.

    10. You can retract minimum ($405K/$480K) bids ONLY.

    11. Please do not welcome players to your team in the player's position thread. It only makes a mess and there will be a thread specifically for you to welcome your players.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Keep in mind that you guys will only be able to have five active bids combined between positional free agents and cut players. So keep track of who you're bidding on because if you have more than five active bids, I will retract your most recent ones to get you down to five.

Also... make sure you have enough space for your free agents when bidding. Also keep in mind how much your draft pick salaries are because you'll need at least enough room to sign them all (whether you actually sign them is another story).

Please remember for unrestricted free agency you may use the Exclusive Rights Franchise Tag OR the Non-Exclusive Rights Franchise Tag OR the Transition Tag.

    Franchise/Transition Tags
All tags and tenders must be submitted by 10:00PM EST on March 9th, 2013.

    Exclusive Rights Franchise Tag
An exclusive-rights franchise tag will cost more than a traditional non-exclusive franchise tag however it will allow teams to make sure they get their target without any disturbances. An exclusive-rights franchise tagged player can be added to the team's roster as soon as the deadline to tag/tender players passes.

    Non Exclusive Rights Franchise Tag
A non-exclusive franchise tag will cost a little less than the tag mentioned above however other teams will have a 23 hour window during free agency to make a bid on the tagged player. If a bid is made on a non-exclusive rights tagged player, you have the option to match the bid or accept compensation from the bidding team. If you accept compensation, you will receive two first round picks from the bidding team.

    Transition Tag
A transition tag is even less than the two tags mentioned above and teams will also have the 23 hour window during free agency to make a bid on the tagged player. However if a bid is made on a transition tagged player, you will only have the option to match the bid. You will receive no compensation from the bidding team if you do not match the bid.

    Amount of Tags Per Team
Teams have a choice of using either the Exclusive Rights Franchise Tag OR the Non-Exclusive Rights Franchise Tag OR the Transition Tag. Which means if you tag a player with any of these tags, you cannot tag any other players at all with the other two.

    RFAs/ERFAs
You must place a tender on all the RFA's and ERFA's you have that you plan to keep. Remember you get right to match the salary of what teams offer your players. If you do not, you get compensation based on the tender. ERFA's (Exclusive Rights) will be given a base salary and if they are tendered, no team will have an opportunity to offer that player a contract. Therefore these players can be added to your roster right away if tendered. However, RFA's cannot be added to your roster right away as teams may offer them contracts in the first 23 hours of free agency. Keep in mind, for players drafted in the 1st or 2nd round originally, you must tender them with that level designation, otherwise you will get a pick one round lower.

Bidding on Tagged UFAs and tendered RFAs
Teams will have 23 hours to place bids on players who were given the non-exclusive franchise tag, the transition tag, and RFAs who were tendered at any level. This will be done in an eBay style format where at the end of the 23 hours, the highest bid will be given to that player's respective team and he will decide whether to match the offer or accept compensation. Your bid must be higher than what the respective tag/tender they received.

    Exclusive Rights/Restricted Free Agents
    ERFA tender = $555,000.00
RFA original tender/right of first refusal = $1,200,000.00
    RFA 2nd round tender = $1,835,000.00

The 5/24 model is partially to see if it extends FA, partially to see if we can have less people going bat **** with last minute snipe bids. I mean, we know someone will still melt down, but I'm hoping this reduces the chances of it.

I actually think this way worked out better in the SR league last year. Was more exciting and it sucks having to wait 48 hours just to get outbid at last minute.

what about 36 hours?..... There were times last year when I thought 24 hours was too short due to missing out on a few important bids just b/c it wasn't always feasible to get to the computer in time to check in. Let's say you puts a bid in at 10 pm friday but you don't see it b/c you've already logged out or whatever; then saturday is a full day away from the house and you don't log in in the morning b/c you're a lazy *** who's impossible to wake up so she rushes you out the door b/c she's an impatient *****. Or let's say something comes up and you don't have time to log in. Subsequently you don't make it home till late (perhaps she takes a detour to Hobby Lobby or some s***), and by the time you log in, a player was bid on and signed just since the previous night, which kinda sucks leper balls.
