oh wow... he has been assessed a two stroke penalty for taking an illegal drop on Fridays round. He was assessed the penalty AFTER he signed his scorecard. He should have known the rule and the violation (he knew he was dropping 2 yards behind his previous shot to gain an advantage, thus the violation). The rules are very clear cut in golf. Integrity of the game and all of that. As it stands the committee has chosen NOT to DQ Tiger under another rule (that is rather new, from April 2011). But many are saying he should do the right thing and DQ himself. He is scheduled to tee off in about 3 hours from the time of this post.

Will he do the right thing and DQ himself? I doubt it. oops. The dark cloud that followed Tiger since what three years ago... the one that he worked so hard to come back from and finally he made it back IMO on a competitive level at least, winning three tourney's so far this year and was a clear cut favorite for the Masters this weekend... and now this. All caused by a really really bad break in hitting the flag on the 15th green and having his ball back up into the water.

Impossible to know whether he intentionally broke the rules to give himself an advantage. I know he said two yards, but that ball doesn't look two yards back.

    Do the right thing.

This country is so full of hypocrisy its laughable. He already got screwed 6 different ways on that hole. He should be able to try and overcome it without millions of middle aged white men crying foul, especially when I'm willing to bet 90% of them dont do "the right thing" in everyday life....be it infidelity, taxes etc.

it's not as near as possible to the previous shot. He certainly isn't ignorant nor did the facts of the matter prohibit him from making the correct drop (as the exception rules state for him being dq'd / saved). IMO those rules were put in 2 years ago to save players who had no idea they did something wrong. Tiger knew. He said so himself. But I guess he's ignorant?

I think it's crappy that he's penalized at all for hitting the damn flag (that's my personal opinion, I understand that it's in the rules). Also, they were only aware of any wrongdoing because of a viewer who called in and actually had deemed it an ok drop (when maybe it shouldn't have been) until he interviewed saying 2 yards (which was really about 4-5ft). Plus he signed the right card, it was until after he signed that the penalty was assessed.

Beyond that, he's well within the rule of not being dq'd. He only should get the stroke penalty by the rules.

Oh I'm sure there's still quite a few racist pig****ers at Augusta National who would have loved to see him thrown out.

They also gave that 8th grader from a China a slow play penalty. I didn't think he was egregiously slow.

The rules committee ruled on the drop before he signed his scorecard. He shouldn't be penalized for signing an incorrect scorecard.

It was Augusta that chose not to DQ him, Tiger deserves ZERO criticism for doing what he is told. People wanna have sour grapes then direct it at the tournament officials who care more about the ratings.

And I will never root harder for Tiger than I will the next 2 days.

While I don't agree, the bottom line is that it was a rare situation where it ended up being a judgement call. The officials would have been within their rights to DQ. They are also within their rights to let Tiger play. The ruling would apply to all players, not just Tiger.

THIS! Jesus, what makes it so hard to understand for people?

You can't tell a player at the end of his round before he signs his card that he is in the clear, THEN come back the next morning before he tees off and tell him he is DQed. That's ludicrous.

The group he was playing with was put on the clock. Once that happens, you need to pickup your play. He then was warned again directly for slow play and if he took too long a third time that he would get a stroke penalty. So he was warned twice. BTW, were you watching him play the whole round? How in the name of zeus' ******* would you know if he was taking too long or not?

They told him this? So they are supposed to, before he signs his card, discuss his round with him and any player for that matter before they sign their card? The problem is, they didn't tell him until after he signed his card. In fact, had he not given that interview, he probably wouldn't have been penalized because it's Tiger Woods.

he's gonna be scrutinized for anything he does. Golf rules used to be black and white... now there are many shades of gray to suit certain popular players and keep tv ratings up.

when I was watching him play live, I thought when he made that drop and it bounced forward towards the hole that he needed to re-drop. The commentator was caught up by saying it was a red hazard vs a yellow hazard, a five option drop instead of a three option drop. I think he knew at that point that Tiger had messed up (going back two yards) but failed to say anything. David Feherty... should have said something.

guys I'm rooting for... Rory, Snedeker (best player who hasn't won a major), Kuchar (smiley bastard), Cabrera (he's won the Masters and US Open, doesn't get any recognition), Couples and Langer (how can you not root for the 50 plus year olds) and KJ Choi (won of the most gracious golf players I've ever seen in person, just a really good guy).

If they didn't DQ Woods he is under no obligation to WD. He dropped a ball within a club length of his previous shot no closer to the hole. His comments are irrelevant.

BTW, this morning I was unaware that the committee "ruled" before he signed his card in his favor. And only after did they consider the penalty. Which IMO makes them look even more incompetent. I didn't expect Tiger to DQ himself. He isn't winning tomorrow though. Sorry. Cabrera or Snedeker...
