Is Robinson even practice squad eligible? I know he played games for Denver in 2010-11. That might explain it. If he is practice squad eligible, then I'd chalk it up to another instance of Miami taking a younger guy over an older one.
Just looking at the Saints' game, he had pretty good body positioning on a # of throws completed on him, just failed to react to the ball in the air.
Not sure that I'd post this news in a brand new thread, but for you # diehards: Mike Gillislee is now wearing #23 (Presley is on PS with #31) and Jelani Jenkins gets out of the fourties... now wears #53.
I have watched Weaver live, being a graduate of Southern MS. He is not as athletic as a guy like Yeatman. But he did play extremely well in Larry Fedora's offense, and protected Austin Davis well. He was invited to the combine if I am not mistaken.
I believe Lee Robinson is eligible for the practice squad. Three seasons (only two with NFL teams) or less... less than nine games (only 3 in Denver).
Weaver was most recently on the Bengals preseason roster... wonder if they showed him at all on Hard Knocks, I don't recall it myself. He was signed as an UDFA back in April by the Bucs. But was released July 31st (odd timing)... however CLAIMED on waivers by the Bengals.
My understanding is that players cannot be signed to a practice squad contract until the waiver period has officially ended. My guess is that after we cut Francis, the Patriots contacted him and informed him they'd like to add him to their PS if he cleared waivers. Miami also did the same, and when he probably told New England "thanks, but no thanks", the Patriots probably then decided to use a waiver claim and stick him on the active roster for at least a few weeks (and with the Bills and Jets on their schedule for those first two weeks they probably could have afforded to roster the both of us also). The Dolphins probably assumed Francis would be safely on their practice squad and figured they'd get his signature on the contract at some point in the day, perhaps right after the meeting.
well this is certainly the stance phinsational has taken from day 1....which makes it interesting that he fistbumped Stitches post stating Ireland was in charge in.....2008.
Rock bottom right now. That game against Texas St. on Saturday I attended and gave up watching my other school Georgia get beat by Clemson. Tough Saturday all around. The ghost of Ellis Johnson prevailed at the Rock. I am really pulling against Auburn this year (Ellis is the defensive coordinator). And I would be pulling against them anyway given I am a Georgia graduate as well.
Go ahead and kick us while we are down. USM had as good a record as any team in the country over the last 20 plus years. We will rise to the top.
I cannot understand the attraction to Brenner. Did anyone notice him do anything well as an OL during the preseason? He looked like he was playing on roller skates to me.
I watched him pretty closely, and I saw the same, roller skates is the perfect description..let him be someone else's problem
Lol... I work close to USM, and some of my staff and peers are Alumni. Not that there's anything (really) wrong with that... plus they're sort of trapped between Alabama and LSU geographically, so they're soft targets. BTW, what (polar SEC) obscure football conference consisting of lower rung university teams are they playing in now? I'm sure you'll rise to the top of it.
Where did you go to school? I am guessing not USM. Hattiesburg is an unique situation. Take State and Ole Miss out of Starkville and Oxford and those towns don't make it. But I have always believed Hattiesburg thinks it can live without USM. I have never liked that attitude in the Hub city. When I went to school there years ago I heard in class that USM was initially intended to be in Laurel. It was a teacher's college in those days (turn of century 1900). By the way I am an alumni from Georgia as well. I understand the SEC arrogance.
The only time he stood out to me was when he was getting pushed 6 yards deep. Look at the play against the Saints where Devlin threw the interception down in the redzone, Brenner gets pushed right back into Devlin's face. Also stunned that the Pats claimed Barker, he was every bit as bad. I can't ever recall seeing an interior lineman being physically ran over, it would have been funny if he wasn't playing for us at the time.
Or a below avg third QB that will never see the field. LOL. Way to go, FO. Keep Devlin around and lose Francis. Ridiculous.
Yep. This was a great thing for AJ Francis. If he can stick with them (and he should), he's guaranteed to be in the playoffs. With us, nothing is guaranteed.
Maybe you could honk a horn before you derail a thread, give some of us time to get out of the way. I dunno, maybe wear a bell. You need something, because your rhetoric truck has no breaks and you appear to be blindfolded.
Heck, if we want a 3rd QB, I'd cut Devlin and sign Tyler Wilson. I liked him at Arkansas, cannot believe Raiders cut him so soon. Most of the teams with a top QB though, only carry 2 QBs. Saints, Packers, Patriots, Colts, Ravens, Falcons, Panthers, Bears, Seahawks, Rams, all have only one backup. Devlin is nothing special to me. Philbin seems to really like him though and I'd be this was his call to keep Devlin.
The thread was already derailed though by posts about which college in Mississip a few of our posters went to or are loyal to.
This thread. LOL at this entire thread. First of all, I liked Francis a lot and was disappointed to see him go, but are people really this angry over the friggin' PRACTICE SQUAD?? Secondly, the comments about this being why the "Patriots are winners and the Dolphins aren't" are comical. Francis is a defensive tackle, while the Pats are obviously a great team, our defensive line is not only deep, but significantly better than theirs. There are many things you can say the Pats do better than us, but defensive line is definitely not one of them.
Our defensive line WAS deep. I don't think it's deep anymore. Having Odrick, Starks and Soliai to rotate at the two defensive tackle spots is nice, but the Dolphins used to have a #4 and #5 in addition to the #3. Now they don't. They just have the high quality #3, and he's a free agent after this year.
