i'd be pissed with gurley, a first on a RB that might not even play the first year bc he's recovering from a ACL tear? no thank you.
Gurley is going to be there in the second round, maybe even early 3rd round too. I bet Gordon gets drafted at 20 something, and I wouldn't be shocked if another running back was picked before Gurley.. Gurley when healthy is obviously Top 2 in this draft, but no one knows how the knee will react..
Finally, a reason to share my board! (Not that it really makes an ounce of a difference, but at least it's fun). Anyways, I've devoted hours upon hours into studying film from the top prospects in the nation, and feel as though this is a quality, unbiased board, worth taking a look at. (Of note, I was only wrong about one prospect in the 2014 draft - Mike Evans, whom I projected as a bust). Miami Dolphins Big Board Positional Needs HB, WR, G, DT, LB, CB HB’s Targets 1: Todd Gurley - First (Top 25) 2: Melvin Gordon - First 3: David Johnson - Second 4: Ameer Abdullah - Second 5: Tevin Coleman - Third Players to Avoid Duke Johnson Jay Ajayi T.J. Yeldon Sleepers 1: Zach Zenner - Fifth 2: John Crockett - Sixth 3: Dominque Brown - Seventh 4: B.J. Catalon - Undrafted WR’s Targets 1: Amari Cooper - First (Top 5) 2: DeVante Parker - First 3: Jaelen Strong - First 4: Phillip Dorsett - Second 5: Devin Smith - Second Players to Avoid Kevin White Devin Funchess Doral Green-Beckham Sleepers 1: Ty Montgomery - Third 2: George Farmer - Seventh 3: Vernon Johnson - Undrafted 4: Jordan Taylor - Undrafted G's Targets 1: La’el Collins - First (Top 15) 2: Laken Tomlinson - Second 3: Mark Glowinski - Third 4: Josue Matias - Fourth 5: Shaq Mason - Fourth Players to Avoid Brandon Scherff Arie Kouandjio Tre Jackson Sleepers 1: Robert Myers - Sixth 2: Quinton Spain - Seventh 3: Antoine Everett - Seventh 4: Kaleb Johnson - Undrafted DT’s Targets 1: Malcom Brown - First (Top 15) 2: Danny Shelton - First 3: Eddie Goldman - Second 4: Grady Jarrett - Third 5: Marcus Hardison - Third Players to Avoid Leonard Williams Arik Armstead Michael Bennett Sleepers 1: Derrick Lott - Fifth 2: Rakeem Nunez-Roches - Seventh 3: James Castleman - Seventh 4: Leon Orr - Undrafted LB’s Targets 1: Vic Beasley - First (Top 10) 2: Eric Kendricks - Second 3: Benardrick McKinney - Second 4: Lorenzo Mauldin - Third 5-T: Taiwan Jones - Third 5-T: Denzel Perryman - Third Players to Avoid Shane Ray Randy Gregory Paul Dawson Sleepers 1: Jake Ryan - Third 2: Zach Hodges - Fourth 3: Hayes Pullard - Fifth 4: Edmond Robinson - Seventh CB's Targets 1: Trae Waynes - First 2: Ifo Ekpre-Olomu - Second 3: Jalen Collins - Second 4: Quinten Rollins - Second 5: Alex Carter - Second Players to Avoid Kevin Johnson Marcus Peters P.J. Williams Sleepers 1: Craig Mager - Fourth 2: Imoan Claiborne - Sixth 3: Cam Thomas - Undrafted 4: Justin Coleman - Undrafted Personally, I would take La'el Collins in the first, followed by Ifo Ekpre-Olomu in the second, and Jake Ryan in the fourth. After that, I would look at some big-bodied wide receivers, such as Dezmin Lewis, DeVante Davis, Deontay Greenberry and Vince Mayle, in addition to a powerful running back with a violent running style - either Jeremy Langford or Dominque Brown. Then, with our final selection, I'd consider some of my projected 'sleepers' at DT - Rakeem Nunez-Roches, James Castleman, or Leon Orr. Seriously, someone hire me.
The officials call PI a lot tighter in the NFL than college. Things he got away with as for being grabby, he won't get away with as much in the NFL.
I see Gurley's running style translating better to the NFL than Gordon's. Melvin reminds me of Eric Dickerson. That's great if you have a great o-line ala the LA Rams at the time. Not so sure Gurley can't just create by his damn self...
We have a feature back that had some of the best stats in the league last year and he is only 23 years old!! All we need to complement him is an excellent 3rd down back with great hands. I would seriously consider drafting Ty Montgomery if he slides to us in the 4th. It would give us the best KR/PR guy in the draft(and nobody else is close imo) and if he could learn how to block he may actually have a future as a 3rd down back, I don't see one at WR. This is another huge reason we don't need to spend a high pick at RB. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7aLXkNnbn1o College football's 2014 rushing leader is still projected by the idiots, oops I mean scouts, to go undrafted. If he is still there in the 5th this should be a no-brainer. This kid has potential.
I totally agree. Why are we discussing gurley or Gordon when we have Miller? Get moreno back and we have a decent pairing. Even ridley isn't objectionable, especially if the alternative is a 1st round pick. I'd rather see us with parker or Waynes or scherff. Someone who we actually need as an improvement.
Boy, the media really has sucked everyone in. There will be more "busts" at the top of this draft class than any class before it. This years prospects have been hyped up by the media more than usual, and it's likely due to the iconic personalities that the NFL just can't wait to make money off of (Jameis Winston, Kevin White, etc.) Put on some tape, these guys are good, but few are transcendent talents, and many will struggle to adjust to the NFL's playing standards. Teams themselves aren't even high on Leonard Williams, for example, and I'd be willing to wager that he falls out of the top five. Think Sharif Floyd in the 2013 NFL Draft. Let's re-visit this conversation in a couple years, okay buddy?
Is that enough of a reason to draft someone? We've needs that should be addressed before what is ultimately a luxury pick. We have a good RB in Miller and we could get a decent change of pace elsewhere for not much.
I don't see how we invest $100m in Tannehill without surrounding him with better receivers. It makes zero sense to me. At 14 we are perfectly positioned to grab one of the many talented WR's in the draft. My preference is Perriman but any of the top receivers would work.
I understand that. However, I still think he can be taught not to grab so much. And, IMO, if he is he will be a top corner in the NFL.
Ahh yes, because the only way someone could possibly disagree with your list is if they're "media persuaded". The arrogance is strong with this one.
I would be fine with Gurley although I prefer Gordon. It is unlikely that Gurley makes it to the second round (saying he'll make it to the 3rd round is just ridiculous).
That sure is putting allot of faith in this coaching staff. I do not have it in me anymore to depend on Philbin and Coyle. But I do like Wayne's. I feel that with Tannehill looking for the big payday next off season that we really need to go ahead and get this offense settled once and for all with pretty good to great talent starting at every offensive position. We cannot get everything we need this year but there is plenty enough talent to pick up another very good RB,WR,G,TE..ETC..next year we can get the rest of the players needed to make us a very solid, and talented football team.
Tannehill and Miller will both want paying in 2016. if Tannehill is after that $100 million+ mark then combing that with Suh's monster contract means we will have to just keep getting young WR's and other weapons through the draft where we won't be able to hold onto them past their rookie contracts. If Parker is free at 14 then draft him, however, I feel that New Orleans will bag him and therefore we should get a veteran in like Crabtree or Jennings on a one-year prove it deal and take Waynes to start building our secondary around him as Grimes begins to age.
I disagree. The only thing stopping anyone from saying the #2 is locked down by Taylor is injuries. He's not a scrub. When camp starts, he'll be #2 after Grimes regardless of who we draft.
They're teaching him to be physical in coverage especially while looking up for the football. They're teaching him how to physically affect the receiver without being so obvious as to get called for it. Just like they taught Darqueze Dennard, who makes Trae Waynes look as hands-off a born-again teen at prom. The fact he's got only 9 penalties in 2 seasons is highly relevant because he uses his physical coverage most often either at the jam when you're allowed to, or while looking up for the ball and staying with the receiver (which is a rare skill). Even NFL officials let you get away with a lot if you're looking up for the ball. Calling him Brandon Browner with more speed is somewhere between ridiculous and intriguing. If Brandon Browner had the kind of speed and movement skills of Trae Waynes he very well may be a shutdown corner like Revis or Sherman.
I strongly disagree with this. I think the tape shows that he doesn't get physical in coverage because he has to. He gets physical in coverage because he can.
Pretty good debut for a message board draft evaluator though. Expansive, ranking oriented, needlessly dismissive and condescending toward dissenting opinions, and even a de facto assertion at the end that he's as good as professionals. The guy should get a badge.
I agree Taylor has the talent. Ability to stay healthy is a pretty important factor tho, no? Taking a CB early provides insurance for Taylor plus it adds a young guy to groom as Grimes' replacement.
I think rafael has his reasons but the elephant in the room is that one player has a freshly inserted cadaver's ligament in his knee while the other is as god made him.
Ok, (not trying to single you out), but people aren't reading the conversation. So, I'll start my stance again. I think Taylor is going to start camp and the season opposite Grimes. Because of that and the fact that the #2 corner spot is the least important part of the secondary, tells me we don't need to spend a first round pick on a back up of the least important position in the secondary.
Yeah, this topic will probably linger. Gurley just looks way more polished in his style. You'd think Gurley would be a more effective pass blocker also.
